Chapter 8

Damien POV

“Cassandra!” I shouted as I dragged her away. She was really lucky she was a woman; otherwise, I would have hit her with my I was already close to doing so.

“I am.” I tried to say, but she cut me off.

Fist. In fact,

“Avery, let’s go, the woman said as she looked at me, then at Cassandra, with a cold stare before taking her daughter’s hand and leaving

“You really are something Damien.” Cassandra said but I cut her short before she could finish.

“Cassandral” I yelled, clenching my fists, trying to suppress every urge in me to hit her.

“And what the hell did you just do? What stunt did you just pull? I shouted, not caring that everyone was staring at me.

“You are raising your voice at me because of that thing I caught you with? Is this how you talk to your wife?”

“Ex–wife. You are my ex–wife. The sooner you get that into your thick skull, the better for everyone,” I said. She glared at me, attempting Jo say something, but one look from me was enough to shut her up.

“The next time you come into my house unannounced, or even try a stunt like the one you just pulled, I won’t care if you’re a lady or not. I will hit you with my fist so hard, and you’d better be ready to face the damn consequences,” I said as I proceeded to walk away But she grabbed my hand, preventing me from leaving

“Is this all you’re going to say to me after I was physically assaulted by your little shenanigan?”

“Let

me

remind you, you were the first person to raise your hand, not her. She merely reciprocated the energy. Just a bit harder. At least that should teach you a lesson not to barge into my house unannounced or even think of coming here again, I said as I pulled my hand away from her grip

“And one more thing–next time I set my eyes on you, I’ll do the unthinkable. So stay away from me, I said as I walked away.

“We are destined for our paths to cross, and fate does not lie! We will be together again!” she shouted, her voice trailing after me as I left the hospital, ignoring her.

I walked towards my car, my driver was already waiting for me, he opened the car and I got into the car, slamming the door harder than I should have.

“Where to, sir?” the driver asked.

my eyes caught her.

-Wain,” I said, as my

The woman from earlier and her daughter who was holding her hand tight as they walked out of the hospital. I didn’t even know her name, I had forgotten to ask her, her name. For a moment, I considered stepping out to talk to her, maybe to apologize to her for Cassandra’s behavior. But I stayed put, it was no use and beside she looked like she was in a hurry.

I leaned back in the car, rubbing my temples as memories of Cassandra and her chaos filled my mind. I chuckled as I recalled what she did and her reaction when she saw me half–naked with the girl.

“Damien!” she had screamed my name so loudly.

“What the hell is this?!” she demanded, pointing at the girl I was with.

The girl, Melissa, remained calm, “Well, I could ask the same. Who are you, and why are you barging into someone else’s bedroom?” Melissa asked

“I’m his wife!” Cassandra snapped

“Ex–wife, I corrected, tightening the knot of my towel. “Cassandra, get out.”

But, of course, Cassandra wasn’t listening.

She walked toward Melissa. “How dare you? Do you have no shame, lying naked in another woman’s husband’s bed?”

Melissa laughed, clearly amused, “Sweetheart, you might want to check your facts x–husband. And moreover, your problem isn’t with

me, but with him.”

That did it. Cassandra lunged at her and slapped her.

“What the Cassandra, stop!” I yelled, rushing forward to separate them.

But it was too late. Melissa had already retaliated, grabbing a pillow and smacking Cassandra in the face with it. What followed was a flurry of slaps and hair–pulling

“Get off me, you psycho!” Melissa yelled, pinning Cassandra down.

“You’re the psychol” Cassandra shot back.

I tried to intervene, pulling Cassandra off, but in the chaos, one of them swung wildly–and I caught a slap square across the face.

My towel dropped.

Damien, do something! Cassandra screamed as Melissa gained the upper hand, holding her down and yelling insults I couldn’t even process.

Both of you, stop!” 1 shouted, struggling to wrap my towel back around me.

Eventually, I managed to drag Cassandra away, though not without some scratches on her arms and a furious glare directed my way. Melissa stood there, completely unbothered, brushing her hair back as if nothing had happened..

She walked into my bathroom to get dressed while I dragged Cassandra to the living room

“What the hell is wrong with you?” I yelled. “You can’t just barge into my house like this!”

“She attacked me!” Cassandra shouted, pointing at the red marks on her arms.

“You started it!” I shot back. “You came here uninvited, insulted her, and turned my house into a damn wrestling match!”

Before Cassandra could answer back, Melissa walked into the living room, fully dressed and looking stunning as ever. She placed a hand on my cheek and kissed me–long and slow, as if to make a point.

“When you’re done dealing with this mess, you know where to find me,” she said, giving Cassandra a smug look before walking out the door.

I stood there, stunned, while Cassandra’s face turned red..

“You–you let her do that?” Cassandra asked “After what she just did to me?”

“She wouldn’t have done anything to you, if you hadn’t started this nonsensel I shot back.

Cassandra threw a cushion from the couch as she yelled. “I can’t believe this, Damien! I’m injured, and all you care about is her?!” “Then maybe you should think twice before barging into my house uninvited! And stop acting as if we are a thing.” I retorted. That fight was what led us to the hospital, where Cassandra insisted on being checked out for her “injuries
