Folded 60

Alex POV

I spent five minutes waiting for her to say something, but she just stared at her drink, looking completely zoned out. She was the one who had called this meeting, yet it seemed like she had no idea I was here or even what she wanted to say. She just played with her straw.

I sighed and relaxed in my chair, waiting for her to speak. But she didn’t. She just sat there, lost in her thoughts.

I scoffed, crossing my arms. This was really getting annoying.

“You think I have all day to waste?”

Nothing.

She didn’t even blink.

I used my leg to hit the table leg. Hard. Trying to get her attention.

After two more kicks, I finally got her attention. She looked up at me and seemed to realize I was sitting next to her.

“Finally,” I muttered.

“So, you clearly have all day to waste while I don’t. Can we just get to the point? Why did you call me here?” I asked.

“Is it to apologize for the stunt you pulled at my wedding? You know—”

“I’m sorry,” she interrupted me.

I frowned, thrown off by how fast she said it.

“I am sorry,” she said again.

I stared at her, waiting for the catch, waiting for the usual attitude. But she just sat there.

This was unbelievable, Julie had apologized to me twice. This must be a dream-a dream too good to be true.

I looked at her as I folded my arms, clearly amused. “And what exactly are you sorry for?”

“For everything,” she said. “For what happened at your wedding, for the way I handled things, and for overreacting.”

That made me pause. Oh, this was really getting interesting.

The Julie I knew wasn’t one to apologize so easily, let alone admit her faults.

“Avery has barely spoken to me for a week,” she said. “She’s angry at me, and she misses Apparently, you mean a lot to her.”

you.

I leaned back, studying her closely, wondering who the hell this woman was-because she definitely wasn’t the Julie I knew. This must surely be my lucky day.

“You always act like you know what’s best for her,” I said, enjoying this.

“Like you’re the only one who cares about her. And somehow, I’m always the bad guess what? Karma’s funny, right? Because now, Avery loves me more than you.”

She looked at me sternly, but she didn’t argue.

No quick comeback.

No sarcasm.

No anger.

Just silence.

That was new.

guy. But

I looked at her closely, waiting for her to snap, but she just sat there and didn’t say a single word.

Something was off.

I tapped the bottle in front of me, my eyes still on her.

“This is unlike you, You’re not even going to argue?” I asked. “What has gotten into you? Is it because of your little plaything? He’s been on the news, huh?”

“That’s none of your business,” she said.

Ah. There it was.

I chuckled. “Relax. No need to get defensive. I was just asking.”

She crossed her arms and looked away, clearly done with this conversation.

I smiled to myself, shaking my head.

Then my phone buzzed on the table.

I looked at it.

It was Bella.

“Oh, shit,” I muttered.

The last thing I wanted to do was talk to her right now. But if I ignored the call, she would just keep calling. And if I ignored too many calls… Well, last time I did that, she nearly cracked my skull open with a vase.

Literally.

Lately, Bella had been more aggressive. More paranoid. More… unpredictable. Postpartum was really taking a toll on her.

I sighed as I grabbed my phone.

I looked at Julie. “Don’t say a word.”

If Bella knew I was with Julie, she would clearly have my head for breakfast.

ulie raised an eyebrow but stayed silent.

I answered the call. “Bella, please, can we talk later? I’m in a meeting.”

‘At where?” she asked.

‘In my office, obviously. I told you about this huge, important investor who’s crucial to me, so I would appreciate it if you didn’t call me right now. And also…”

“Look outside,” she cut me off.

I frowned. “What?”

“Look. Outside.”

My grip on my phone tightened.

I turned my head slowly to the restaurant’s glass window, hoping it wasn’t what I was thinking.

And there she was.

She was across the restaurant with her arms folded, glaring at me.

Shit.

“Why did this place have to be a see-through restaurant?” I muttered as she headed toward

the restaurant.

As she entered the restaurant, I barely had time to react before she poured water on my face.

For a second, I just sat there, feeling the liquid all over my body.

“Can you please not make a scene?” I asked.

But Bella wasn’t done.

Before I could stop her, she turned to Julie and slapped her.

Hard.

Julie didn’t move at first.

“Bella, I’m not doing this with you,” she said with gritted teeth as she stood up.

Bella scoffed, crossing her arms.

“Oh, you’re not? Is it because Damien finally left you and went back to his ex-wife? And now, suddenly, you’re back here sniffing around Alex?”

Julie just ignored her and turned to leave.

But Bella wasn’t finished.

She dragged her back and slapped her again.

Julie staggered slightly, but this time, she didn’t just stand there,

She lifted her hand and slapped Bella right back, which made her lip bleed.

“Shit,” I muttered under my breath.

That was all it took.

Bella lunged at her.

Julie grabbed her wrist. Bella yanked her hair. Julie dragged her back. That went on for about

a minute.

I had seen enough.

“Are you crazy?!” I snapped, stepping in between them.

Bella shoved me off.

Julie shoved me too.

“Are you both out of your minds?!” I barked, looking between them.

Neither of them looked at me.

I was done with this.

I grabbed Bella’s arm, pulling her back before she could start swinging again. She struggled, but I didn’t let her go.

“Let go of me, Alex!” she shouted.

“Not happening,” I said.
