Chapter 6

Julie POV

“Someone, please help!” I screamed, frantically checking her pulse. A wave of relief washed over me as I felt her faint pulse–she was alive. A nurse rushed over, and I quickly stepped aside, not wanting to stay any longer.

I left the hospital, my heart racing. As I drove home, a million thoughts ran through my mind. I gripped the steering wheel tightly. struggling to hold back the tears. Everything felt out of control. I glanced at the document on the seat beside me, and all I wanted was to end this shant of a marriage. Grabbing my phone, I dialed his number.

“Come home now!” I yelled, my voice shaking, barely controlling the tears.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

“Just come home!” I screamed, hanging up the phone before he could say a word.

I drove so fast that it was a miracle I didn’t get into an accident. When I reached home, I stayed in the car, crying my heart out.

I hit my head on the steering wheel again and again, harder each time. I felt like a fool–because I was a fool. A fool for not knowing what everyone else had known all along. I stayed with him every day, yet I was the only one who didn’t know about it. I stared at the divorce papers I had taken today, and all I wanted was to end this once and for all.

I saw his car pull up to the driveway. As he parked and walked over to my car, he tried opening the door, but it was locked. Frustrated, he banged on the window, After a while, I unlocked the door. He looked at me, surprised by how I appeared–it felt as if I had aged overnight.

“What’s going on?” he asked, taking a step back, shocked by my appearance.

I didn’t answer. I just walked past him and entered the house. Julie, Julie, Julie,” he called after me, but I didn’t acknowledge him. I went to the kitchen, drank some water, and leaned against the counter, waiting for him.

“What is wrong with you? And why did you cut me off? I can’t use the debit card! Do you know how frustrating my day was because of that?” he asked angrily.

“You know, I am sick and tired of your drama… Before he could say another word, I interrupted him

“Who is Bella to you?” I asked, my voice surprisingly calm.

He looked at me.

“What do you mean?” He asked.

“Who the hell is Bella to you?!” I screamed.

“Don’t play dumb, Alex. Who is she to you?” I said again, louder this time.

“Julie. I don’t—”

Tread carefully, Alex, and don’t lie to me!” I shouted “For once, just tell me the truth!”

His silence was all the confirmation I needed.

“You know,” I said, “I’ve spent years trying to convince myself that, although you might not be the ideal husband I wanted, you weren’t a theat, and that was enough for me. It was the reason why I endured all of your excesses”

“I must have been stupid,” I muttered to myself.

Julie

“Do not interrupt mer i snapped, tears streaming down my face. “I was willing to forgive you, Alex. Do you know how hard that was for met I told myself that if you admitted your mistake, if you showed remorse, I could move past it. But you- My voice choked with the tears. “You just kept lying” I said with venom.

“After everything I did for you, after…” I tried to say something, but I was interrupted by him.

“Enough“” he screamed. “Enough of you playing the viction card” he said.

Chapter 6

“Do you know how unbearable you made this marriage for me?” he asked.

I looked at him shocked by his outburst.

“Do you know how much I have to put up with your attitude?” he asked.

You must really be joking. I scoffed..

“You’re always throwing it in my face that you pay the bills, as if that gives you the right to control everything! And maybe that’s why I cheated–because Bella doesn’t do that. She appreciates me.”

I laughed bitterly.

“So this is my fault?” I asked, shaking my head. “I worked my ass off to save your failing company, Alex. I sacrificed everything for you and you’re saying I drove you to cheat?”

“You made me feel worthless!” he shot back. “You act like I’m a child who can’t do anything right. So, yeah, I cheated! At least with Bella, I felt like a man again.

“And what about Avery?” I asked. “What about her? Does she deserve this? Does she deserve a father who takes out a life insurance policy. on her? What kind of man does that to his own daughter!” I shouted.

“I was going to fix that, he mumbled, avoiding my gaze.

“And the mortgage?” I asked. “You put a mortgage on the house, Alex! Do you plan to fix that too?”

“You’re unbelievable,” I said, cutting him off. ‘I want a divorce.”

He looked at me as if surprised or angry that I had dared ask him for a divorce.

“You don’t mean that,” he said, his voice shaking. “We can work this out

“No, Alex. I’m done.” 1 grabbed the divorce papers from the counter and shoved them at him. “It’s over,” I said as I tried to walk out.

Before I could move away, his hand struck hard across my face.

“Don’t you dare walk away from me!” he yelled,

I held my cheek and I looked at him shocked

“You think you can just end this?” He said as he tightly held my arm.

“Do you think you can just walk away like that?!” he shouted.

I tried to pull back, but his grip on my hand tightened, bruising me

“Al–Alex, you are hurting me,” I said fearfully.

He only laughed and said, “Where is your confidence now?”

The next thing I knew, I kept receiving slap after slap. I fell to the ground and tried shielding myself from him, but that only made it worse. He sat on top of me and kept beating me, and the only thing I could do was cry and shield myself.

Before I could scream, the front door burst open.

“Dad, what are you doing?” Avery shouted.

“Let her go!” Avery shouted again as she rushed towards her father, trying to push him away from me, but he didn’t budge and continued.

I heard her footsteps leaving the scene, but she came back shortly after.

“Dad, please stop!” she screamed as she grabbed a knife from the counter. Im going to kill myself if you don’t stop”
