Chapter 58
Chapter 58
Julie POV
I adjusted my cap and my face mask, trying to blend in. But it was useless.
Everywhere I went, I heard whispers:
“That’s her.”
“She’s the one, right?”
“Yeah, Damien’s fling, right?”
“I heard she’s a divorcée too.”
“She doesn’t look as beautiful as Cassandra.”

I took a deep breath, trying to control my anger. If one more person looked at me like I was some tragic soap opera character, I was going to lose it.
Then, just as I was about to completely snap, someone tapped my shoulder.
This was it, I thought.
“Can you just mind your fucking—”
I froze.
“Williams?”
He looked at me, clearly taken aback. “Whoa. Someone’s a little cranky.”
I blinked, then sighed. “I’m sorry. I just-”
He grinned. “Nah, I kinda liked it. Almost made me pee my pants.”
I laughed. He sure still had his sense of humor.
“Come on,” he said, grabbing my hand.
“Let’s get a drink. You look like you could use one.”
I hesitated, then nodded.
“You know what? I’d really do anything not to be alone right now,” I said.

Chapter 58
We walked to a nearby coffee shop and grabbed a table.
As we sat down and placed our orders, I could still hear people whispering.
“Ignore them,” he said.
“So,” I said, taking a sip of my coffee, “when did you get back?”
“Recently,” he said.

“So, what brought you back? The last time I checked, you had no plans of coming back.”
He smiled as he played with his coffee.
“I heard you were finally divorced and figured this might be my lucky chance, so I hopped on the next available airplane and came back.”
I rolled my eyes. “Oh, please.”
“I’m serious,” he said, leaning in and lowering his voice.
“You know what? I was a fool for letting you go. And right now, I’m not going to make that mistake again.”
I looked at him with a stern expression.
“Enough of the jokes. Now tell me the real reason.”
His smile faded.
“Family. My foster dad passed away. I came back to honor him.”
“Williams, I’m so sorry.”
He nodded, staring at his cup. “Yeah… me too.”
“Can we talk about something else?” he asked.
The conversation shifted to work, but after a while, he just stared at me.
“What?” I asked.
“How are you doing?”
“I’m fine, as you can see,” I said.
“No, are you really okay?”

I frowned. “Of course I’m okay. Why wouldn’t I be?”
He didn’t look convinced.
“Because last night, I saw you walking in the rain, crying your eyes out.”
I stared at him, surprised. “You what?”
He smiled.
“Yeah. You were dramatic as hell, walking like some tragic movie heroine,” he said, dramatically wiping fake tears from his face and placing his hand on his head.

“Oh, woe is me! My heart is broken! The rain understands my pain better, so let me walk in the rain and cry my heart out.”
I burst out laughing. “You’re such an idiot!”
He laughed too. “I mean, come on, Julie. The only thing missing was a sad piano playing in the background.”
I shook my head, unable to stop laughing. But then, without warning, the laughter turned
into tears.
William looked at me, surprised.
“Wait. Oh, shit. Are you actually crying?”
I hit his arm. “You’re so mean!”
He looked around, a bit embarrassed. “People are gonna think I made you cry!”
I sniffed, rubbing my nose. “I just… I really missed you, Williams.”
He patted my hand and smiled.
“No wonder you’re crying like a baby.”
I chuckled, “You still have such crazy humor.”
He shrugged, “Not really. But I can be a comedian for you.”
I was about to say something then I saw him.
Damien.
He had just entered the cafe.

I immediately stood up, as our eyes met.
Williams followed my gaze, then sighed. “Ah. That might be our cue to leave.”
He grabbed my hand, but before we could walk away, Damien was already there.

“Julie,” he said, reaching for my arm. “Please, can we just talk for a minute? No, give me minutes.”
I yanked my arm away.
“There’s nothing to talk about.”
“Julie, please—” he said, holding my arm once again. .
Before I could say another word,
Williams stepped between us.
“Hey, man, she doesn’t want to talk to you, so let go of her arm.”
Then Damien stared at him.
“And who the hell are you?” Damien asked.
Williams smiled as he moved closer to Damien, looking him squarely in the eye, his hands in his pockets.
“Someone who actually cares about her. Unlike you.”
Damien clenched his fist.
Williams tilted his head back.
“You couldn’t even take your little business to a private room? An elevator? Really? So classless.”
That was it.
Damien punched him.
Williams touched his cheeks as he angrily swung his fist back, ready to punch Damien. But before he could punch Damien, I immediately grabbed his hand and stepped in between
them.
Then I slapped Damien hard across the face.

Damien looked at me, shocked, as he touched his cheek, as though trying to confirm if I had really slapped him.
“You slapped me because of him?” he said, pointing at Williams.
“Have you moved on that quickly?” he asked. “You already replaced me? And here I was thinking I had messed up.”
I slapped him again, harder this time.
“You don’t get to ask me that, Damien! You were the one in an elevator with your ex, having sex. So don’t you dare play the victim card!”
At this point, people in the cafe had already started whispering and pointing in our direction.
He scoffed, but before he could say anything else, Cassandra walked in.
“Damien,” she said as she walked up to him.
Then, as she saw me, she smiled and wrapped her arm around Damien.
“Let’s get out of here,” Damien said.
