Chapter 55
Chapter 55
Julie POV
I didn’t wait for an explanation.
I turned and walked away.
Damien called my name, but I didn’t stop.
“Julie, wait!” He shouted, running after me.
I kept walking faster.

By the time I reached the lobby, he had already caught up with me and pulled my arm backward, preventing me from moving.
I tried to pry his hands off me, but he didn’t budge-his grip was tight.
“Let go of me!” I yelled with all the strength I had.
‘Julie, it’s not what it looks like,” he said breathlessly.
* Can you please listen to me?”
I turned around and looked at him. Before I could think twice, I slapped him—hard.
Then I slapped him again, this time even harder.
“Bastard,” I cursed, letting the tears fall.
He let go of my hand and placed his hand on his cheek.
I pointed a trembling finger at him.
“I should have known,” I scoffed, shaking my head.
“I should have known that you were no different from Alex-just another lying, cheating, lowlife bastard.”
Damien let out a sigh and kicked the air in frustration.
“Julie, please, can you let me explain?” he asked.
“Explain?” I scoffed.
“What is there to explain Damien,” I chuckled.

“Don’t bother. What I saw was enough explanation,” I said, shaking my head.
“You are a piece of shit,” I added, pointing at him.
“You know, now it all makes sense,” I said, nodding my head.

“No wonder you’ve been canceling our dates, all in the name of business meetings with Cassandra. I ignored it and told myself there was no need to be paranoid-that it was just work, a normal business meeting,” I said, wiping the tears from my cheeks.
“Despite the fact I saw the headlines about you and her… I told myself you were nothing like Alex!” I yelled, my voice choked with tears.
“But I was a big fool for believing that, wasn’t I?”
He ran his hand through his hair in frustration.
“Shit,” he cursed as he kicked the air.
“Julie, this is all a misunderstanding. The elevator got stuck, and I had a panic attack. She was just trying to help me.”
I scoffed.
“Oh, right. She was trying to help you by getting on top of you while you held her tightly.”
“Let me guess-she was trying to help you by having sex with you in the elevator to calm the panic attack, huh?” I asked sarcastically.
“It was nothing like that,” he said.
“Oh, really?” I scoffed.
“You know what, keep your explanation to yourself,” I said as I reached for my bag and pulled out the small gift box-a cologne I had bought for him. The one I had carefully picked out, excited to gift it to him for our one-month anniversary together.
I threw the cologne on the floor beside him, and it shattered. Some pieces of the bottle cut
him.
“Happy anniversary,” I said.
“And I don’t want to see you again. Whatever this was, whatever we had-it’s over.”
“Julie-” he called out.

“You can now go screw your ex-wife in peace,” I cut him off as I walked away.
I headed outside the building.

I hadn’t brought my car because I thought Damien would drive me home, but clearly, that was a big mistake. I decided to walk home; I needed to think.
As I walked down the street, the rain started pouring.
“The day couldn’t get any worse, huh?” I muttered.
But right now, the rain was the least of my worries.
I walked and cried as the rain soaked my clothes and made my hair stick to my face. I didn’t
care.
The tears and the rain blurred my vision; I could barely see anything as I walked.
I was so stupid.
So damn stupid.
I actually believed Damien was different. That maybe—just maybe-someone could love me for real.
I scoffed bitterly, shaking my head at my own foolishness.
At one point, I had even thought I might marry him.
Gosh, I was such an idiot.
I let out a laugh
“Stupid,” I muttered, hitting myself on the head over and over again.
Maybe there was some invisible sign on my forehead that said cheat on me.
Maybe I was just not meant to be in loved.
As I kept walking, the rain fell heavier. I barely noticed anything around me until, suddenly
Someone put an umbrella over my head.
I froze.
Slowly, I turned to see who it was.

It was Maria.
Of course.
She looked at me, trying to smile and appear friendly.
“Julie, you’re going to catch a cold if you keep walking in the rain,” she said.

I glared at her before yanking the umbrella from her hands and throwing it to the ground.
“And how is that any of your business?” I asked.
“You know what? I’d rather get sick than take help from someone like you,” I snapped.
Who was she to think she could help me after everything she’d done to me?
“Even if it were a matter of life and death, I’d rather die than accept your help,” I said.
“Julie, please, can you stop being unreasonable and…”
“Oh, can you please stop the pretense already? Don’t tell me you’re not happy seeing me like this.” I cut her off, wiping my tears.
“Take a look at me-I’m a mess. My life is falling apart once again. This should’ve made your day, shouldn’t it?”
She frowned slightly. “That’s not true, I—”
“By the way, Damien cheated on me,” I said, trying to control my tears.
“Maybe that news will make you even happier. You can go ahead and screw him too-just like you did with my husband.”
Maria looked at me in shock. She tried to say something, but I didn’t wait for her response.
I turned and walked away.
