Chapter 31
Wes's POV
I'm so glad that that just happened. No matter how much I didn't want to get hurt again. I also knew that I would've let Aurora back in if she wanted to.
Two years later and she still has a pretty strong grip on me, and also for Thomas, her being in his life will create some kind of balance for me. Then, I can truly learn about him via her.
But right now, it was just me and him, sitting in his tiny room.
"So. . Thomas. ." I call out as he plays with his trains but he doesn't lookup. "I know you can hear me. ."
"Where's Aurora?" He asks and I sigh.
"She went home."
"When is she coming back?" He pushes and I run my hand in my hair.
"Can you tell me why you're so mad at me?" I ignore his question and he takes a moment.
"You didn't protect me." He says and my face sags.
"Thomas... you know if I was there I would've protected you."
"But you weren't there." He states matter-of-fact, peering up at me.
It's true. When Aurora left me. . . I buried myself in work. I didn't give Thomas enough attention and here we are.
"Will you. . will you be able to forgive me?" I ask and he looks at me, tilting his head.
"I don't know. Maybe if Beeze tells me to." He shrugs and my heart breaks right there and then.
"Thomas I'm sorry, little guy. ." I say softly as he glances at me. "I'm so sorry that I didn't spend time with you. That... that I let this happen."
He stares at me for a second and I guess its the tear that slips down my face, that saved me because soon he was jumping on me...
"Don't cry." He mutters and I smile to myself as his tiny hands move up and down my back. He leaned back, using his little palm to wipe away my tears. "I.. I forgive you."
I can't believe I was crying.
"But I thought you needed Beeze?"
"I don't like to see you cry. Please don't let this happen to me again. I... I couldn't protect myself." He whispers the last part, with a little trouble pronouncing protect.
"I promise you."
"Aww, this is so sweet." I spin to find Aurora with her hands on her heart.
"Beeze!" Thomas pushes me away and runs up yo her.
"What're you doing here?" I raise an eyebrow at her and she smiles.
"I got bored at home, wanted to see what you guys were up to."
"Oh, yea, and what if I wasn't here, in England?"
"Then I would be watching Basketball Wives while Ronin complains." She giggles and I grin.
"Daddy apolo... apolog . . . daddy said sorry." Thomas gives me a toothy grin and I smile warmly at him.
"Did you forgive him?" I ask raising an eyebrow.
"Well, I said I did... but if you don't want me to. ."
"Hey!" Wes yells as if he was offended.
"Oh, I am just joking daddy." Thomas laughs twirling his upper body around in my arms.
They're too adorable.
"Hey. . . what're we doing today?" Wes asks sitting on the bed and shrug, eyeing Thomas as he cutely talks about the hotel food.
"Gosh, you're giving him more attention than me now." Wes groans exasperatedly and I chuckle.
"Jealous much?"
"Of my own son? Nah." He looks as if he wants to say more but he holds back.
"How about we all go for a walk?" I suggest and he nods.
"Alright Thomas, let's get you your coat."
"Can Beeze put it on!" His eyes sparkle as hr looks hopeful, and I don't miss the look that flashes in Wes's eyes. He looked so. . . disappointed.
"Of course-"
"How about your dad do it? I have to go get my coat also anyway."
I didn't even bring my coat but okay.
Thomas sighs and Wes gives me a grateful look. I walk towards the living room, just for sure and as soon as they came out Thomas furrows his eyes at me.
"Where's your coat?" He asks and I bite my lip.
"I forgot it." I lie and he frowns.
"But it's gonna be so cold."
"I'm used to it." I wink and he takes off his jacket.
"I'm used to it too." He says trying to act manly and I chuckle, as Wes raises an eyebrow.
"I'll hold it just in case."
Aurora's POV
"Y'know, we still have to discuss some," Wes says as he pulls me closer to him. We sat on a park bench as Thomas lazily ate his ice cream, sitting on a see-saw, alone.
And boy did he look happy.
"What's that?" I asked furrowing my brows.
"Are you moving back to New York?" He asks and I purse my lips.
I haven't really thought about that... and I can't say that I'm willing to drop everything that I've built here just to be with Wes and Thomas, no matter how much they mean to me.
"I've already built a life here Wes. I have a job, I have friends... I have Ronin. I miss you guys, I really do. . but I'm finally standing on my own.
He stares at me for a moment before nodding.
"I'm proud of you." He whispers. "I wish you would've done it differently, but I'm still proud of you."
He places a warm kiss on my forehead and I smile.
"Um... Beeze?" Thomas calls standing in front of me.
"Yes, my little man?" He plays with his fingers and looks down at his feet.
"I don't know if you know... but I don't have a mom. Everyone else has a mom... but I don't. You're like my mom though. Will it make you... uncomfo. .uncomfor-"
"Uncomfortable." Wes helps.
"Right... uncomfortable-" he still didn't say it correctly but he tried. "If I called you mommy? I promise I won't do it all the time."
He looks up at me so hopeful that I can't help the 'Aw' that escapes my lips as I lift him.
"Yes you can, and you can do it all the time, it doesn't matter. From now on, you have a mom." I wink at him and he stares at me like I was the only thing surrounding him.
"I love you so much!" He exclaims wrapping his tiny arms around me and I giggle.
"Oh, buddy, I can honestly say I love you too."
This time, I meant it.
Wes just looks at me intently, watching the interaction and I raise an eyebrow at him.
As soon as he realizes he was caught, he clears his throat, offering me a smile, and looks away.
I would deal with him later...
Right now I have to listen to this beautiful four year old tell me the list of things he wants us to go together.
