Chapter 30
Aurora's POV
"Why are you still here?" Ronin asks angrily and I gape.
"Ronin... I can't just go back."
"You don't have a choice. I'm kicking you out." I gasp.
I had just told Ronin about Wes and the whole situation and he can't help but insist that I go after him.
"You can't do that." I raise an eyebrow at him and he crosses his arms.
"Alright fine. But I really think you should be going after him." He says and I roll my eyes.
"No. He made it clear that he was done."
"It was the hurt talking!" Ronin yells and I want to bang my head on the table. "Aurora, this man has done so much for you, the least you could do is fight for him."
When he put it like that...
"I don't even know where he is."
"Don't worry." Ronin winks. "I've got money."
Eyeing the plain white door that stood in front of me, I left and returned about four times now.
I was about to leave again when it swung open.
"Can you tell me why you keep visiting my door?" Wes snaps sounding annoyed and I gape.
"I-I, you saw me?"
"Yup. See-through glass."
I expected nothing less.
"Um... hi," I mutter lamely and he crosses his arm leaning against the door. I sigh. "Wes... you're right... I am a coward. I am afraid. . . and. .and I wasn't ready. I'm sorry. I knew what you went through when you told me about your past and I wasn't thinking about that when I left you two years ago. Not only did I leave you... but I left Thomas... No amount of apologies could change the fact that I left you guys, and I don't expect you to just take me back. Can we. . can we start over?" He stares at me before shaking his head.
"I'm sorry... no." He shrugs and I gulp nodding.
"I understand. Tell Thom-"
"You didn't let me finish-"
"Actually I did... you... you stopped talking and there was this super long pause"
"Aurora." He says.
"-Okay." I shut up "Like I was saying, I don't want to start over... it's our mistakes that make us who we are. That perfects every imperfect detail in our lives. It's how we solve them that builds the relationship. So Aurora, if you don't mind I would rather continue where we left off two years ago." He smirks and my face breaks into a grin. "However. If you ever hurt me again, we won't be having this conversation."
I smile shyly and clear my throat.
"I highly doubt that I'll hurt you again," I say in all truth and he smiles slightly, pulling me into him.
"I have to admit. I missed you." I chuckle, still half outside.
"I thought you would put up more of a fight. " I joke.
"Oh? So you want me to slam the door in your face and have you begging so I could take you back?"
"I would never beg!" I say defensively and he brings me inside.
"Never?" He winks and I roll my eyes.
"Just shut up. You're annoying me already." I mutter embarrassed and he grins.
"Beeze?" A small voice calls out and I spin around to find Thomas.
"Hey, Buddy. How're you feeling?"
"I thought I was at your house?" He frowns in his father's direction and Wes mirrors it.
"Oh... uh. .daddy took you home." I smile and his frown deepens.
"You let daddy touch me?" A sharp intake of breath is heard and this was getting awkward.
"Thomas. ." I mutter lowly. "It isn't daddy's fault okay?"
"Yes, it is. "He answers right away and I frown. "He left me with her. He never listened to me."
I bite my lip as Thomas wiggles down.
"Where you going, Buddy?" I ask him and he shrugs.
"Back to sleep."
He leaves and as soon as he does Wes bangs his head on the wall.
"Wes. . . he's a kid."
"Aurora he won't even look at me. All because I wasn't there when he needed me. I was so caught up in getting that deal... so close. So I thought that when it was all over I would pay more attention to him."
"Talk to him then." He gives me a deadpan look.
"Did you not hear when I said that he doesn't even look at me. It feels like ever since you left, we were never the same."
I bite my lip and stare at Wes.
"Talk to him Aurora. Please."
"Wes. This is something you need to do. Just father and son. I can't always be there, because at the end of the day. He's your blood. Call me, to tell how it goes." He nods and I smile. He kisses my cheek.
"Slowly this time. . . alright?"
"Okay." I nod, leaving.
Well, time to be a sitting duck.
