Chapter 28
Aurora's POV
2 years later.
Wes never called. Neither did he come to look for me. I have to admit I miss Thomas. A lot.
But I assume that they're happy since Wes is now engaged. You heard me right. It's all over the news, even here in England. I'm not going to lie and say it doesn't affect me but I'm glad he's happy.
I live with Ronin and our bond is stronger than ever. I work as a personal assistant and I honestly never tried dating again. It didn't feel right.
"What's on your mind?" Ronin speaks up, fixing his tie.
"Oh, nothing." I smile and he raises an eyebrow.
"I'm not stupid." He says and I roll my eyes.
"I'll tell you later." He seems satisfied as he stretches out his arm.
"Ready?" I nod.
Did I mention Ronin was the owner of the company?
Tonight he was hosting a masquerade ball at his business place and of course, I had to be there. He demanded even though I told him I didn't want to come.
We arrived at the building and it was already booming. Loud music filled my ears and I winced.
Not exactly my scene.
"Well looks like they started without me." Ronin states and I bang my head against the seats.
"Come on, let's go."
It's hard to believe how much this boy has achieved at 19 years old when his father handed it over to him. He got serious and gave up the underground fighting.
Do you know how many nights I had to spend cleaning bruises?
We step out hand in hand and everyone would usually assume that we were a couple, but in reality, we were just displaying smothering sibling love.
SSL.
They should make that a thing.
We enter the building and if the music was loud outside it was deadening inside.
"Why is it so loud?" I yell and he winces.
"I'll fix it." He moves away to the DJ and I wander slowly. Saying hi to everyone, even the jealous bystanders but that's okay.
My mask was on tightly but I could tell they knew who I was. I sat at one of the tables and sighed looking around with my head in my place onto my palm.
Everyone was chatting it up, living their lives happily and I'm just sitting here wondering what my life would've been if I didn't leave Wes.
My eyes sweep the room and a figure catches my eye. I narrow them and focus on the tall outline. Next to him stood an impatient little boy.
Could it be?
I stand, my eyes slightly wide as I subtly walk across the room. My long tight black dress, swaying with every move I make.
I was getting closer, silently until...
"Aurora! Is this better?" Ronin calls running towards me and I gasp as both of the figures raise their eyes at me.
"Beeze?" Thomas calls and I stay silent, talking to Ronin so that maybe he'll think it's not me. I think its working.
Something pulls at my dress and I look down to find Thomas peering up at me. He looked so... broken for a four-year-old. His eyes were surprisingly dull and I knew for a fact that it couldn't be because of me.
Its been two years.
"Thomas. ." I murmur, lifting him and he flinches. I frown at him and he returns it.
"Why did you leave?" He whispers and I bite my lip.
"Thomas... .you're a bit too young to understand... What's wrong?" I ask as tears wells up in his eyes. He looks at Ronin, who looked very confused then back at me.
"I can't tell you." He shakes his head. I turn to find Wes staring at us, well at me, and his jaw was clenched, not bothering to pay attention to the people who spoke to him or the dirty blonde that sent dirty looks my way.
I avert my eyes and excuse myself from Robin, bringing Thomas into the ladies' room with me.
What?
He's only a kid.
"Thomas... what's going on? Why are you crying?"
"I miss you beeze." He croaks and my heart breaks. "Daddy's new girlfriend. She... she doesn't like me."
I furrow my eyebrows at the young boy staring at me.
"What do you mean?"
"She says means stuff to me when daddy's not around. And she always warns me not to tell daddy. Every time I try to she would ask him to do something, and he would have to ignore me."
I clench my teeth and I can't help as my blood boils.
"Why doesn't she like you?" He shrugs and my chest hurts at how broken down he looks.
"Come with me," I tell him and he stops me.
"Wait... " He looks up at me eyes full of tears and lifts his shirt slightly. I cough out a gasp, as purple is the only thing I see.
"Thomas. How has your daddy not seen this?" I ask and tears slip down his face.
"She never did it before... only today while daddy was on a trip."
All I saw was red as I grabbed Thomas and gave him gently to Ronin.
"I'll explain later."
Surely she'd know that Wes would find out. I mean come on what is she doing?
"Wes," I call out and he stares at me, before returning to his conversation. Dirty blonde grins at me and I glare fiercely at her.
I walk closer grabbing her hair and pulling her onto the ground.
She screams at Wes to help her but he's only looking at me in shock.
"How dare you put your hands on a four-year-old child!" I yell as she breaks free.
"I did no such thing!" She screams at me and Wes furrows his eyebrows.
"Do you even listen to your child anymore Wes? Do you look at him?! Can't you see? The spark, its no longer there! His eyes are dead. Do you ever question yourself or are you too busy with your new fiance."
"Jealousy? Is this why you decided to accuse and attack me?" She speaks up and I roll my eyes. She really thought I was playing around, didn't she? Little did she know she messed with the wrong child.
Thomas was basically everything to me, even as I left him, as long as I was aware that he was in danger, I would protect him.
Everyone at this time was just standing around, even the music stopped playing.
"Oh my gosh, stop with the crap. I know what you did." I tell her and her eyes go dark, as she flashes a look at Thomas.
"Don't you dare," I tell her, and Wes looks utterly confused.
"What's happening right now?" He asks.
"What's happening? Your son over there is being ill-treated by Ms. I-suddenly-have-amnesia." She growls at me and I roll my eyes.
"What are you talking about?"
I stomp frustratedly to Thomas, taking him carefully, I lift his shirt to show him what's been going on. His eyes widen and he looks at Thomas who seemed very uncomfortable and tired, laying on my shoulder.
"Thomas... " He reaches out to take him but he only presses himself further onto my shoulder. Wes's face turns hard as he turns to Amnesia who looked like she was about to blast.
"What the hell is that Amina?!" He roars, Amina, Amnesia. You can't really tell the difference.
"He fell down the stairs." She says walking backward.
"Oh really? How stupid do you think I am?" He grabs her arm bringing her close.
"Tell your father the deal is done, and you better have a good lawyer by tomorrow. Now get out of my sight before I cut off your airflow." He spat and I feel sorry for her.
"Why would you do that?" I ask her before she leaves and she smiles sarcastically at me.
"Just for fun." I was about to throw some legs when Ronin grabbed my waist.
"You have a sleeping toddler in your hand." He reminds me and I glare at her retreating back.
"Alright everyone, the party's over!" Everyone was more than happy to leave, obviously uncomfortable.
"What're you doing here?" I ask Wes and he takes off his mask, running his hand through his hair.
Gosh, he's sexier than I remember.
"I'm associated with your boyfriend's work." He says boyfriend bitterly and I raise an eyebrow at him.
"He's my brother." I correct him and he looks embarrassed as he clears his throat.
"Wes, this is Ronin, and Ronin this is Wes my- . . . old friend." Wes clenches his teeth and stretches out his hands.
"Nice to meet you, man," Ronin speaks up and Wes nods.
"Alright, Aurora can I. . can I talk to you?" He asks and I bite my lip.
"How about tomorrow? It's all been a rough night for everyone. ."
He nods reluctantly and I sigh.
At least I have time to prepare. And also I need to ask him about the deal.
