Chapter 22 Belong

"How were you while I was gone?" Kim Taehyung asked as you step inside the hall.

He held your hand with both his hand as he lead you inside. You can feel his warmth between his fingers, you can feel the tightness of his grip on your hand. You can feel him not wanting to let your hand go.

You look up at him. You saw him looking down at you, his face was majestic tonight. He looked handsome even before but tonight was different. He looked incredible and magical, like he has no flaws, like all these lights were meant to make him shine even brighter.

You loved the slope his nose makes, you loved the curve his eyes are making as he look at you so dearly, and you love how his lips are about to stretch but he doesn't give it away. He's pleased seeing you tonight that's for sure. But his stares alone or his suppressing smile made your heart beat faster.

"Surviving." You admit. "Will I meet the Governor tonight?" You asked him.

He chuckled as he shook his head. "This ball is exclusively for the youth of the elite society. It's stupid but it's real."

After passing the hallway, a grand ballroom awaits the both of you. The carpeted floor were of cream, maroon and black hues with patterns. The chandeliers illuminated the place with yellow lights as it reflect to the huge window glasses around the room. The center part of the ballroom was left empty and ready for the dancing while tables scattered around it.

Women and men of your age were in their best suits and gowns. Their jewelries were flashing as they socialize with each other, a hand occupied by a glass of champagne or wine.

You see Margo on the far end of the ball room, dressed in her white long gown with thin straps and a slight plunging neckline. Her strawberry blonde hair stood out the most, curled and put on one side, exposing one side of her face. Her lips were painted with crimson red. And of course, her glares doesn't escape you.

You see everyone glance your way, most of the guests were nodding at Taehyung, raising their wine glass and Taehyung replied to them with a curt nod.

"And how was your trip?" You asked him, trying to act casual even though your nerves were killing you.

His grip tightens at your hand as he lead you on a table. "Great. We went to Hungary for business and vacation. Mom had a great time." He said.

You nodded. The program already started before Kim Taehyung came. Food was served in silver platters and the champagne bubbled on the flute. Women and men pass by your table greeting Taehyung while he tried to introduce you to them as well.

"This is miss Go Aeran, her family is an old rich. She's the daughter of Architect Go." He said as a woman wearing a night blue gown approach your table.

She smiled at Taehyung then she reach out her hand for a handshake. You took it, you saw a warm smile bubbling up her lips that was painted in a nude shade. She was a few years older than you.

"Our Architecture Firm is long gone, Taehyung. Let's not mention that." She said as she tap his shoulder.

"I've heard. But you still managed to survive and stay on the elite society." Taehyung said, his lips tug up a little bit.

They chatted for a while before the girl, Aeran, said goodbye and went back to her table. She was lovely, polite for an elite. Or maybe she's just not Margo.

After a few minutes, the waiters took your empty platters and Taehyung got to his feet then he step towards you. You look up at him with wide eyes as you gaze around you. No guests were standing but Taehyung.

He offered you his hand slowly, waiting for you to accept it. You bit your lip as you slip your hand to his and slowly got up from your sit. The lights change, from the yellow lights of the chandeliers to a more purple and pink hues that dances around the room.

A song comes along as he lead you to the dance floor. He stood on the very center of it and you can see in the background the men standing up and going to their partners, doing what Taehyung did.

"Eyes on me, please." He said as he lift your hand and put it on his nape, almost reaching his other shoulder.

He encircled his arm around your waist and pulled you a little bit closer, his other hand held yours as your both slowly sway to the music like what Nayeon taught you. You look at him and you can see the purple and pink lights reflecting on his eyes.

He let go of your waist to brush away the hair that's falling over your eyes. You stared at his face, if this was a dream, you hope that you'll never wake up. If this was a fairytale, you hope that the storyteller won't ever stop reading this very story. And if this was reality, you never want it to end.

"Damn, you look so beautiful." He whispered.

Your cheeks slowly heat up as you see other partners starting to dance on your sides. "I was scared that you'll really stood me up tonight." He trailed off.

"After I left you that night, I saw how unsure you were in your eyes. I saw your doubts and I saw how you tried to stop yourself so hard. So hard, baby, that I was almost sure you'll never be with me tonight." You slowly close your eyes as you feel your heartbeat raise again.

"But you're here dancing with me. This means that you'll be with me, right?" He asked.

"I am with you. I'm with you, Taehyung." You said as you slowly tighten your arm around his nape, hugging him, resting your cheek on his shoulder.

"You're not about to take that back. There's no turning back now, Y/n." He said as he tighten his arm around you.

Your eyes stayed close that moment as you sway with him, taking and feeling it all in. You were trying to put it all in your head, this overwhelming thing, this officially dating Kim Taehyung thing. It was done all at once tonight.

You had let him enter your heart. You had let him invade your thoughts fully without denying what you're feeling towards him. You had put aside the insecurity you felt towards your sister, Kara.

Kara would forgive you for this, right? Kara would like this idea like Taehyung had said. You'll hold on to that.

You slowly open your eyes as you remembered something. You pulled away from Taehyung and you saw his eyes shining and his lips smiling. Like what was happening was a dream come true.

"Taehyung there's something I should tell you." You said in a concern voice.

"What is it?"

"Nayeon and I talked about Kara. Remember the night when we got into the accident?" You said, you feel the both of you stop moving and just stood there facing each other.

"Yeah, I was there." He said, his brows furrowing his hands were on your waist still.

"Do you remember why we got into it?"

"It was because of the broken brakes. Kara told me that before it happened." He said.

You shook your head, "I remember that night, there was a car beside us on the freeway. And it hit us, I don't know if it was intentional but it looks like it. The car didn't even stop to help us." You explained.

"I've also learned that we were getting death threats that time because of the serial killer case. Nayeon thought it might be connected to what happened to us. I think we're also a victim of that serial killer." You said, your eyes getting lost as you wander on your own thoughts.

"Why didn't you tell anyone about this?" He said as he held your elbows and slowly lead you out the dance floor.

You shook your head, "It slipped from my mind. It was a small detail and I was mourning for my Kara, they couldn't even talk to me that time."

Soon, you found yourself sitting on your table. Taehyung fished for his phone inside the pockets of his coat, "I'll call someone. Please wait here." He said.

You nodded and you saw him walking away. People were still busy dancing with each other so you decided to go to the dessert table. You were busy getting some cheesecake when you notice a girl wearing white stand beside you.

You slowly look up and you saw Margo's red lips and strawberry blonde hair. Her make up was simple yet dramatic, the winged eyeliner on her lids were sharp and could cut someone. Her eyes were throwing insulting looks at you.

"So how is it? How's your experience trying hard to fit in our world?" She said as she sip on her champagne.

You just stared at her, contemplating if you should answer her. She raised her brow as she sigh, she took an stick with marshmallow and let the chocolate syrup from the chocolate fountain drip on it.

"I have to be honest with you, I expected you to show up here with a fancy dress, because knowing Taehyung, he'll never let his date look like a rag. But here you are, wearing some cheap dress." She said.

You look at your dress and you saw look at it too. Her eyes went from your head to feet and back to your head.

"Nayeon helped me pick this. And I am not here for parade, Margo, I am here for Taehyung." You finally answered.

She scoffed. "Of course, you're here for Taehyung. And you're also here trying to fit in. Now, I get it. Don't trust Nayeon with her fashion taste, she's just another rascal."

She took a step forward, "Like you. You little scum. A murderer. If everybody finds out that you killed your sister, they would spit you out here and Taehyung can't do anything about that." She whispered, pressing on every word hard like she wants them to mark on your mind.

"I did not kill my sister. And Taehyung knows about that. If you're so jealous about me what more if you knew what's my sister's connection to Taehyung? Your eyes would be rolling back now from jealousy." You couldn't help your lips tug up a little bit.

You knew Kara's secret was your ace and you're about to play your cards well. You saw how her eyes blink, she was shocked at your comeback. She never expected it that she couldn't answer you for a moment.

"Who cares about that? I am not jealous about you or your dead sister because you don't even belong in our world in the first place. None of you would fit in here and in the end, it will be me and Taehyung." She said completely losing her cool.

Her tone was starting to rise, you saw how her voice got some attention from the dancing couples. They stopped dancing and watch the both of you from afar.

Margo took another step forward, shoving your shoulder with her hand. "You don't belong here. Taehyung won't ever belong to you. You're just some cheap slut that he'll get rid off once he get tired of you." She said.

She keeps on shoving your shoulder that you can't help but take a step back. You were getting scared at that moment, nobody was giving a care about you, nobody will stop her and they'll just watch the both of you drag each other's hair.

"Stop it!" You said grabbing her wrist to stop her from shoving you.

"No! You don't belong here! You don't belong with us!" She screamed.

You shook your head. You don't need to belong here, you don't need to belong to their world. You don't need to belong with anyone but Taehyung. But everything was getting in to you. You were scared and nervous and angry at what she's saying.

"Taehyung will never belong to you!" She screamed. You saw a cranberry juice near your hand so you took it and splatter it on her dress.

She gasped at what you did and took a few second to stare at her white dress now with a huge red blotch on its mid part.

"You little bitch!" She screamed, her voice screeching. She threw the marshmallow stick on your dress and you can see the chocolate syrup cling on your dress.

Then the next thing you knew, she grabbed a chocolate cake and smudge it on your chest. Her face was crumpled, her cheeks were red of anger and you can feel your heart thumping with nervousness.

Everything was ruined. You were humiliated in front of everyone. And the dress that Nayeon helped you pick up was now a mess!

You saw someone emerge from the watching guests. Her night blue gown grace the floor as she march towards the both of you. She held Margo's shoulder and pulled her away from you.

"That's enough. Stop acting like a spoiled brat, Margo." Go Aeran said, her brows were furrowed but her eyes soften when she looked at you, "I'm sorry." She said.

You shook your head and glance at Margo who's still heaving hard. You slowly step back until you turn around and leave everyone staring at the scene. You heard Margo's shriek even when you reach the entrance of the hall.

You hailed a cab outside and went in. No, you aren't leaving Taehyung. You aren't letting him go. You just need some rest. So you took your phone out and messaged him.

You:

Something happened. I'm going home, I'm sorry I couldn't wait for you.

After you went home, the first thing you did was take a shower and try to take off the chocolate from your dress. It took you hours to make the dress look decent but the stain was still there. After that, you called Nayeon.

She was furious at what happened. She was furious at the insults Margo threw at her without her knowing. But she was also concerned about you.

"I'm fine, Nayeon. I had a great time but one thing's for sure, I'm never going to attend an elite party ever again." You said, laying on your stomach.

"We just don't belong there." She chuckled.

You heard a know on your door and you glance at the watch beside your bed. It's past midnight, who could that be?

"Someone's knocking on my door, I'll call you back." You said before you stood up and get to your door.

You glance at the peephole and you saw Taehyung's head lowered while his hand rest at the frame of the door. You slowly opened the door and he glance up at you.

He was still wearing his suit but unlike before he looked tired, his hair was disheveled and his tie was hanging loose on his neck.

"Hey." You smiled at him. The air was cold outside even when you're already wearing your pajamas.

"I'm sorry." He croaked before he wrap his arms around you. He buried his head on the crook of your neck for a while before he rested his chin on your shoulder.

"It's fine." You said as you tap his back.

"No, please don't believe what she said. It's not true that you don't belong to me. Hell, I don't even care if you don't belong to me. All I know is that I belong to you. I belong to this arms. Always." He said and you held your breath as you adjusted your face to his shoulder.

You held him tight, you held him like how he held you.

"I have it hard for you, Y/n. So hard that I don't think I'll ever survive this." He whispered.
