Chapter 38
Leo tries to make amends
It was still mid-day and everyone was leaving. Well, that was because it was meant to be a half day and the next day was a party day for the company.
Brenda had been invited by her friend to go have a good time with her all because she felt that Brenda needed some air and time to think properly about what had taken place. Yeah, it was almost getting too late afternoon and Leticia was so tired and hungry that she could eat a whole cow if it was served to her at that particular moment.
Thinking to herself about whether or not she had locked the door of her little office which her supervisor was very nice to her, her legs hurt from the heels that she had been putting on all day.
"Ava, you need to get a way to find some money for daddy's health if not you are doomed," she said to herself while going towards the door. She had to walk out of the company, before getting a cab which was not going to be difficult, given the fact that, she ain't have enough for her transport fare.
As she walked out, Leticia gave attention to someone calling her name from a car that was parked just before the company. With doubt, she slowed down her path and wondered who it could be.
Having her mind rumbled with issues, she couldn't think properly and had not made out the boss's voice and the expression that she had, showed that she was still confused and had no clue about the caller.
Turning around and looking, Rowan smiled at her from the other side of the car, where he had been standing and because Leticia had not paid attention to what was before her, she had not noticed that he was standing right there.
"Having too many problems?" Rowan immediately asked and Leticia looked shocked to still see him around, she called out his name, and with her gaze not finding it comfortable to stare at him, she asked what he was still doing there and Rowan's reply shocked her even more.
"I was waiting for you." The broad smile that was on his face, has her thinking out loud, while she wondered what he will be doing there waiting for her.
"I beg your pardon, Sir?" Leticia thinking that she had listened to him wrongly, she placed the question but he said,
"You listened to me, right? I was waiting for you."
"Why will he be waiting for me? Did he find out about my secret already?"
Leticia was taken by fear and her heartbeat had filled the entire place when she caught sight of Rowan approaching her and she walked backward.
Brenda was back and she stayed inside the house all day without going out. Her mood was not the best and the more she thought about it, the more she felt irritated. And the more she felt irritated for someone who doesn't have any feelings for her, the more she felt more stupid amd insulted herself for being cheap.
"Brenda, you are older than this for crying out loud. What is all this drama for?" Her sense of humor was one of a kind.
She always talked to herself whenever she was scared, hurt, or nervous, and right there, she was doing what she normally does and that was very funny thing to see.
Wiping off her tears with the back of her palm, she listened to someone ring the door. Brenda lifted up her head and thought of who it could be, she wasn't certain of the people but she had in mind that it couldn't be Ava.
Her flatmate was one of the most organized and conscious people that lives, so it was impossible for her to have forgotten about her keys at home.
"Ava? is that you Ava?" Brenda not wanting to wake up in vain, she called out but there was no response. Dropping the bowl of cornflakes that she was having at that hour of the day, she was so hungry after crying and feeling weary and after the came back home, she count cook for herself despite all the grocery stuff that was in the fridge.
And it wasn't as if she couldn't eat something good, but the issue was that she couldn't cook anything, not even some fried eyes.
"Who can it be?"
Her mouth let the question escape while she looked scared all of a sudden. Brenda thought to herself that Frank could be the one that had come back to hunt her and make her life a living hell, she said to herself that she wasn't going to open up the door and his heartbeat began racing again.
But the door knock brought her back to herself, causing her to pick up her cell phone and to start walking towards the door in a slow motion manner after she had taken herself out of the sofa on which she was seated on.
Gulping the saliva that was in her throat, Brenda had just one thing in mind, and that was for someone to come save her. In fact, she was hoping that Leo her cute and powerful neighbor, could save her of it turns out that Frank was the one who was outside her door but again, she needed to find out.
Breathing in and out like a fish that had been taken out of the water, she closed her eyes, and for a second, her shaky hands held the door handle and the next thing she did was to press open the door with a scream which was already set to raise an alarm, when her eyes, saw that the person standing outside was instead her neighbor that she has been hallucinating about.
Brenda looked disgusted, her countenance was already showing what her mind had on and before she could say a word, Leo stopped her when he raised a question,
"Can I come in please?"
Brenda was still astonished at the fact that he had the nerve to show up at her places she didn't want to seem off and childish, especially after seeing the bowl of food that he was having in his hands
The aroma from it, made her stomach to grumble and she couldn't help but to swallow the saliva that was in her throat.
She thought about it for a minute before asking him inside. Leo walked into her house and she walked behind him after closing up her door.
"Here, I brought this for you," Leo spoke out gently but Brenda wanting to play the hard girl, she looked straight into his eyes and said,
"I do not need your food or charity. You can take it out."
Leo knowing that she was mad at him, he walked out of the living room, asking where the kitchen was but she asked,
"What for?" but Leo gave her a delayed stare, she told her that she wasn't pretty even though she was stubborn.
That made her next words to get stuck inside her mouth, as she opened up her eyes and looked at him like some possessed being who wasn't scared of anything, not anyone.
