Chapter 282 Believe Tyler

Chapter 282 Believe Tyler

"I did save it!"

Layla's tone was full of surprise,

"But you're calling from an unknown number now. I had no idea who was calling. If you hadn't spoken up, I definitely would've hung up."

"Unknown number?"

Emily froze for a moment and looked down at her phone,

"That's impossible. I haven't changed phones, and I've never changed my number."

"It really is an unknown number!"

Layla said urgently, then read out Emily's old phone number, followed by the number she was seeing now, saying with certainty,

"See, these two numbers are completely different. How could I be wrong?"

Emily held her phone, staring at the number on the screen, and suddenly it all made sense.

When she first arrived in Lumaria, she'd been so annoyed by James's calls that

she'd handed her phone to Kumb to deal with. Later, when her father returned the phone to her,

he never told her that he'd gotten her a new number.

No wonder no one from Emerald City had called her all this time she'd been in Lumaria.

She'd felt so hurt before, thinking James was deliberately preventing people from contacting her,

even thinking James didn't care about her at all. Turns out it was just this big mix-up.

At this thought, the heavy weight in Emily's heart suddenly lifted a little, and a faint smile unconsciously appeared at the corners of her mouth.

What if, what if James had tried to call her, but just couldn't reach her because he didn't know her new number?

Once this thought arose, it spread through her heart like vines, and her long-dormant heart seemed to come alive again, filled with hope and warmth.

Layla called out several times on the other end without hearing Emily respond, her tone full of anxiety,

"Emily? Are you still listening? Say something!"

Emily finally snapped back to attention and quickly said,

"I'm listening, I'm listening. Layla, what did you just say? I didn't catch it."

Layla sighed helplessly and was about to repeat what she'd just said when Emily heard Kumb's voice behind her, with a hint of urgency,

"Emily, why are you hiding here? Arian wants to introduce you to the royal nobles and the elite families now. Come back to the ballroom with me."

Emily's heart tightened. Without time to think,

she hurriedly said to Layla on the phone,

"Layla, something's come up on my end. I'll call you back later. Don't go anywhere."

With that, without waiting for Layla's response, she quickly hung up,

turned and followed Kumb toward the ballroom, her heart full of anxiety and anticipation,

wondering what Layla had wanted to tell her, and whether it might be news about James.

On the other end, Layla heard the dial tone and rolled her eyes at the phone in frustration, angrily tossing it onto the sofa.

Samuel walked out of the bathroom wearing only a towel, his wet hair dripping water. He dried his hair with a towel while asking,

"Who was calling you? Making all that noise so late at night."

Layla suddenly sat up from the sofa, excitedly picking up her phone and pointing at the screen,

"It was Emily! She finally contacted me!"

Samuel's hand paused mid-motion, his eyes full of surprise,

"What? She contacted you? Did she say how she is? Has Tyler found her?"

"She's fine, she just changed her number, which is why we couldn't reach her before."

Layla nodded, then frowned again, her tone full of regret,

"I was trying to tell her about James being unconscious, but it was too noisy on her end and she didn't hear me clearly. I was about to say it again when she hung up in a hurry."

"Then call her back right away!"

Samuel said urgently,

"James's condition can't wait any longer. We have to let Emily know as soon as possible and get her back here.

We don't know if Tyler has managed to see Emily yet.

If he had, he would've called us. No news probably means they haven't met yet."

"I want to call, but I'm afraid she's still busy, and she just said she'd call me back."

Layla sighed, looking regretful,

"It's my fault. I should've explained it clearly earlier. If we miss this chance, who knows how long it'll be before we can contact her again."

Samuel walked over to her, gently patting her shoulder to comfort her,

"Don't beat yourself up. The important thing is she's okay. There's a time difference between there and here. They're probably still having the ball, so she might not be able to take calls.

Didn't you promise Briar tomorrow morning that you'd go with her to the hospital to visit James? Try contacting her again then."

He paused, then continued,

"Counting the time, Tyler should have infiltrated the prince's mansion by now. Maybe he's already seen Emily,

and we just missed each other's calls. Don't worry too much.

Right now, the most important thing is to tell Emily about James being unconscious as soon as possible and get her back here to wake him up."

Layla nodded, her eyes full of worry,

"I know, but I'm afraid Emily won't make it in time. If by tomorrow evening she still doesn't know about this, what should we do?"

Samuel's eyes became determined, his tone serious,

"If by tomorrow evening Emily still hasn't gotten the message, we'll have to use the media. Whatever it takes, we need to get this news to her."

Layla hesitated for a moment, saying somewhat uncertainly,

"But wouldn't that be too risky?

Once it's exposed, it won't just affect the Smith Group's stock price, it could cause turmoil among the elite families, and might even damage Frank Empire's reputation."

"Compared to all that, James's life is more important."

Samuel's tone was firm,

"If something really happens to James, do you think those stock fluctuations and reputation concerns will matter anymore?

As long as we can get Emily back here to wake James up, it's worth paying some price."

Layla was silent for a moment, then slowly nodded with a frown,

"Honey, you're right.

I hope Emily finds out soon and comes back to see James.

And I hope she can understand that James truly cares for her, and his previous concealment might have been unavoidable, not deliberate deception."

Samuel gently held her hand, his eyes full of hope,

"She will. Emily is so smart, she'll definitely understand James's feelings.

All we can do now is wait patiently, contact her first thing tomorrow morning, and take good care of James while we wait for them to come back."
