Chapter 280: Say Thank You to Me
Chapter 280: Say Thank You to Me
Ruby called Tyler more than once, her voice full of urgency, repeatedly demanding that he tell Cleo the truth.
She firmly believed that having the person closest to James reach out to him might work wonders.
But only Tyler knew clearly that this wasn't just a simple physical coma for James.
It was his inner obsession that had trapped him. Only by untangling his emotional knot could he truly wake up.
And the person who could untangle that knot, the only one who could wake him, was Emily, far away in Lumaria.
But now he couldn't even get to see Kumb,
let alone contact Emily to tell her about James's condition.
Just then, the turbine roar of a helicopter came from outside the car window, getting closer and closer.
A Lumaria royal helicopter circled above the convoy,
its searchlight sweeping across the road like a spotlight, precisely locking onto his car.
Tyler glanced up out the window. That helicopter was like a circling vulture, ready to attack at any moment.
A strong sense of defeat rose in his heart. Was Mr. James really going to be completely cornered this time?
Was he really going to watch helplessly as his mentor and friend of many years remained in a coma and then died?
Just as Tyler was about to give up struggling, four or five dusty SUVs suddenly rushed out ahead on the coastal road, their bodies covered in mud, clearly having traveled a long distance.
Before the guard team could react, two of the SUVs suddenly accelerated,
cutting directly in front of the guard vehicles flanking Tyler's car on both sides,
forcibly blocking their path.
At the same time, the helicopter above suddenly showed signs of trouble. The fuselage began shaking violently, and the pilot's voice came through the radio, full of panic:
"Experiencing unknown radar interference, unable to maintain low-altitude flight, risk of crash!"
Tyler seized this opportunity, jerking the steering wheel and quickly changing lanes through the gap created by the SUVs.
Under the interference, the helicopter didn't dare continue circling at low altitude. The pilot had no choice but to pull up the control stick, slowly breaking away from the pursuit team and flying off into the distance.
But the guard team didn't give up. The remaining vehicles continued their relentless pursuit, flooring the gas pedal, trying to catch up with Tyler again.
Before long, various types of civilian cars began appearing on the highway - sedans, SUVs, even vans.
Unlike other private cars on the highway that would instinctively make way when they saw the guard team's vehicles with royal black license plates,
this batch of civilian cars that suddenly appeared seemed to have planned it in advance. Not only did they not yield, they deliberately blocked the guard team's path.
Some even positioned themselves directly across the road, cutting off the vehicles pursuing Tyler.
In the chaos, Tyler broke free from the encirclement at top speed, sharply turning the wheel onto a side road.
This side road led to a mountain highway. Going around the mountain would reach the other side of the coastal road, possibly allowing him to completely shake off the guard team.
He didn't dare stop for a moment. Flooring the gas pedal, the Bentley sped along the mountain road, practically drifting through the curves.
The tires screeched against the ground, kicking up clouds of dust.
Just off the highway, Tyler saw a red McLaren parked by the roadside, its sleek body like burning flames in the night.
He instinctively hit the brakes. The tires scraped violently against the ground, producing white smoke as the car came to a steady stop next to the McLaren.
The window rolled down. Tyler looked at the person in the driver's seat, his eyes full of surprise.
"Why is it you?"
Della sat in the driver's seat, sunglasses in one hand, playing with car keys in the other, chewing bubble gum.
She casually blew a full bubble that gleamed translucent in the light, then popped with a "snap."
She glanced up at Tyler, her tone somewhat smug.
"If not for me, you think you could have gotten away so smoothly?"
"Since when are you so kind?"
Tyler laughed coldly, his tone full of distrust.
"When you were going after Emily before, I didn't see you being so generous."
Della pursed her lips, showing some impatience on her face.
"Thanks to you, I was locked up by that old woman Ruby for several days,
couldn't even leave the palace gates."
"You're calling Queen Ruby an old woman?"
Tyler hadn't expected Della's rebellious defiance to be so openly expressed.
After a pause, he suddenly leaned closer to the window, his eyes gleaming mischievously.
"Aren't you afraid I'll record this and report you for slander and insulting the royal family?
You know, in the Frank Empire, these are serious crimes, enough to throw you in jail."
"You won't do that."
Della's tone was certain.
"I trust you're not that low."
"No, don't trust me so easily."
Tyler raised an eyebrow and smiled, then waved his phone, the screen clearly showing a recording interface with the audio bars still jumping.
The smile instantly vanished from Della's face, replaced by anger. She grabbed her sunglasses and threw them hard at Tyler.
"Are you even human! If not for the two teams I sent out to intercept the guards chasing you, you think you could be standing here in one piece?
If not for me! You would've been caught by Prince Kumb's people and thrown in the ocean to feed the sharks!"
Tyler reached out to catch the sunglasses, his fingertips rubbing the cool lenses, his tone softening a bit.
"It really was you who arranged this?"
"Who else could it be?"
"What do you want in exchange? Or are you using this to threaten someone?"
Della rolled her eyes, pushed open the car door and got out,
walked over to Tyler's car in her high heels, bent down and reached through the window, grabbing his chin and forcing him to look up at her.
Her fingertips carried a slight chill, her eyes full of disdain.
"Tyler! You really underestimate me. I'm a princess of the Frank Empire after all. I wouldn't stoop to something as low as threats."
She paused, her tone gradually becoming more serious.
"James's car accident was indeed because of me.
I originally thought he was just going to fake it and stage a collision, I didn't expect him to actually fall into a coma. That wasn't the result I expected.
But seeing you so frantically rushing to find Emily, I thought, what if his condition really is critical?
I don't want Ruby blaming me for the rest of my life, so I specially came to help you."
Della's fingers pressed slightly harder, the pain in his chin making Tyler frown.
"No matter how capable you are, you're just an assistant at the Smith Group. The people you can mobilize are limited to within the company.
I'm different. I'm a princess of the Frank Empire. I can mobilize not just the royal guards, but also mercenaries abroad. My connections and power are much stronger than yours."
