Chapter 274: Falling into a Coma
Chapter 274: Falling into a Coma
Emily really wanted to attend Briar's wedding and really wanted to stay to hear James's explanation, but the private plane sent by Kumb had already started, the roar of the engine buzzing in her ears.
Plus, with James's unclear attitude these past two days, if she stayed now, she'd just look like a fool making assumptions about his feelings.
Emily bit her lip, steeled herself, lowered her eyes and shook her head, her voice as light as a breeze,
"I'm sorry, Briar, I have to break my promise to you."
She looked up at her two good friends' reddened eyes and forced a smile,
"I know you and Dr. David are having a traveling wedding. After the ceremony in Emerald City, you'll probably come travel in Lumaria.
If you come over, you must contact me. I'll welcome you with the highest honors,
take you to see Lumaria's grasslands and sunsets, and make sure you have unforgettable memories of Lumaria."
"Alright, dear, I really hate to see you go."
Briar couldn't hold back anymore and reached out to hug Emily, tears falling on her shoulder.
Emily patted her back, her own eyes reddening too.
She hugged Layla and Briar goodbye over and over, each time letting go felt like tearing something apart.
It wasn't until Ondine gently reminded her it was boarding time that she finally turned around and climbed the stairs step by step.
She didn't look back, didn't dare to look back.
She was afraid if she looked back, she wouldn't be able to stop herself from staying.
The private plane slowly taxied and soared into the sky.
Emily sat by the window, watching Emerald City grow smaller and smaller below, tears finally sliding down her face.
At the same time, the top floor of Emerald City Central Hospital was already surrounded by layers of guards.
Tyler stood at the hospital room door, his face stern, followed by a row of bodyguards in black.
Della wore a fancy dress, her hair messy, tear stains still on her face, hysterically trying to rush inside.
"Let me through! I need to see James!"
Tyler didn't budge, his tone ice-cold without a trace of warmth,
"Della, isn't this the result you wanted? Or do you want to see him in an even worse state?"
"No, Tyler, you know that's not what I meant!"
Della explained urgently, her voice breaking into sobs,
"I just didn't want him to go see Emily, I just wanted to stop him!"
"Stop him?"
Tyler laughed coldly, his eyes full of mockery,
"Then what were you thinking? Sending 16 cars to intercept James, causing his car to flip three and a half times, nearly killing him.
Want me to show you the footage?
When I dragged him out of the car, he was covered in blood, couldn't move any of his limbs, like a broken doll. Isn't this what you wanted?"
"Don't be so cruel to me!"
Della cried out,
"I just wanted to block him, not hurt him! I never wanted him dead!"
"But the result is, you already hurt him."
Tyler's attitude remained firm,
"Sorry, Della, I can't let you in."
"You dare to stop me?"
Della suddenly looked up, glaring at him fiercely,
"You believe I'll go back and have Her Majesty the Queen bankrupt your family!"
"I still have some respect for you, that's why I'm stopping you here."
Tyler looked at her, his tone carrying a hint of warning,
"If you push me to turn against you, believe it or not, I'll pack you up and send you back to Frank Empire right now, let Queen Ruby properly discipline you?"
Della hadn't expected Tyler to be so tough. In his eyes, her royal status seemed to carry no privilege at all.
She stood there stunned, looking at Tyler's upright figure, seeing the unquestionable look in his eyes, an unusual feeling arose in her heart.
She actually felt that Tyler at this moment was especially manly, the authority he carried even stronger than James's.
Della had always been attracted to strength. She looked at Tyler suspiciously, trying to find a trace of compromise on his face.
But Tyler completely ignored her, just waved his hand.
The bodyguards behind him immediately understood, quickly moving forward. A human wall instantly filled the entire corridor, completely blocking her view.
Tyler turned and walked to the soundproof glass.
Inside the glass, James lay on the hospital bed, tubes all over his body, his face as pale as paper, breathing weakly.
The sound from the monitor, each beep like a hammer, pounding on Tyler's heart.
He didn't dare tell Cleo about this. Cleo was old and probably couldn't handle such a shock.
After hesitating for a long time, Tyler finally took out his phone and dialed that number—
Ruby's direct line.
The phone rang twice before being answered.
Ruby's steady voice came through the receiver, carrying a trace of barely noticeable fatigue,
"Tyler."
"Queen Ruby, James is injured."
Tyler lowered his voice a bit.
"It seems James's determination to reject Della is even stronger than I imagined."
Ruby sighed softly,
"I have no way to convince Della. That child has been spoiled and has gotten stuck in her ways. But I think you should have a solution."
Tyler was silent for a moment, then said,
"Yes, Queen Ruby."
"I heard that girl has already returned to Lumaria, right?"
Ruby asked again, her tone carrying a trace of inquiry.
"Yes, Queen Ruby."
Tyler answered truthfully,
"Emily has boarded the plane back to Lumaria.
I think what James would want most right now is for her to be by his side."
"Do you think I was wrong too?"
Ruby's voice carried a hint of self-mockery.
"I don't think that."
Tyler's tone was respectful and sincere,
"I know you're in a difficult position and have always hoped James could inherit your throne. This would be fortunate for Frank Empire."
"You're very smart, Tyler."
Ruby was silent for a long time before slowly speaking,
"Tell me, is there a way to have the best of both worlds?
To let James inherit my position, stop Della from pursuing him, and let him be with that girl?"
Tyler lowered his eyes, thought for a moment, then a flash of insight and compromise crossed his eyes.
He looked up at James through the glass and said calmly,
"There is. Leave this matter to me."
Ruby finally breathed a sigh of relief, her voice carrying a trace of comfort,
"In that case, I won't stand in the way of James and Emily anymore.
I'll have someone watch Della and bring her back as soon as possible to properly discipline her.
Please fulfill your promise quickly, Tyler."
"Yes, Ruby."
Tyler said respectfully and hung up the phone.
Tyler hadn't taken James's car accident and coma seriously at first.
When he personally dragged him out of the mangled Cullinan, aside from a cut on his forehead and some blood on his body, James didn't look too bad.
After the doctor examined him quickly, he said it was just a mild concussion and he might be unconscious for a while.
Tyler just thought it was normal recovery...
