Chapter 3 A New Step Forward

A week ago, the old grandma suddenly forced Preston to get married, causing a scene that landed her in the hospital. She refused to leave until Preston agreed to marry. The chosen bride-to-be was Sophia.

Oliver was still somewhat skeptical and reminded him, "Bro, this watch on your wrist costs seven hundred thousand. Can that girl really not recognize it?"

Preston's clothes were all custom-made without any brand labels, so it made sense Sophia didn’t notice. Although the watch was understated and rare, its value was apparent to anyone with eyes.

Preston recalled that the girl’s gaze seemed never to fall on his watch throughout the entire time and responded indifferently, “You're overthinking it.”

Aside from her beauty, Sophia was nothing more than an ordinary person in every other aspect. She wouldn’t have the insight or knowledge to recognize such things.

The Oceana Wind Tower was an apartment specially chosen by Preston, with three bedrooms and a living room. Though not large, it was in a good location and close to the Harris Co.

Following the floor and door number, Sophia quickly found the marital home belonging to Preston and her.

The apartment seemed to have been renovated some time ago, with a layout of two bedrooms, one living room, one kitchen, and one bathroom, along with a small balcony. It wasn’t spacious but was quite exquisite. However, likely due to the lack of occupants, the apartment felt somewhat empty

Sophia rather liked it.

She ran an online shop doing artwork commissions to earn money, which had already stabilized enough to cover her living expenses. She could fix up the balcony, making it convenient for her to paint and carve in the future. The lighting was good, and for someone who liked to stay home, buying a lounge chair, and relaxing there would be quite comfortable.

Preston has already moved in, only the room next to the balcony is still empty. Sophia has no intention of sharing a room with Preston, so she decisively moved into that empty room.

Just as she started cleaning up, Sophia's phone rang, it was her mother, Fiona, calling.

"Sophie! Tell mom what's going on? I just came back from my check-up, how could Grandma say that you brought a man home and even said you got married?"

Fiona sounded anxious, and Sophia knew that Grandma Lewis must have told her mother a lot of unpleasant things.

"Mom, I did get married."

Sophia smiled indifferently: "It was introduced by Professor Harris, and I happened to find him suitable, so we just got married quickly."

Fiona, with red eyes full of guilt and worry, hesitated before saying, “Sophie, is it because of me that you...”

“Mom, don’t worry. It’s not what you think. I believe he’s a good person who meets my requirements, so I made this choice. You’re pregnant, so don’t think too much.”

Fiona fell silent. She knew that Sophia had suffered grievances that led her to marry suddenly, but she had a new family and a new child to consider...

As a mother, she had been incompetent.

Fiona suddenly thought of something, "Since you’re married, have you talked about when to hold the wedding?”

"We don't need to rush..."

Sophia smiled,"We can do that later. He owns a house, and I’ve already moved in today. When he has time, I’ll bring him to see you.”

“Alright.” Fiona pursed her lips and nodded silently, “Sophie, I haven’t done much for you, but over the years I’ve saved up some dowry for you. When you come back, I’ll give it all to you. Remember, if you ever face grievances, I will protect you no matter what.”

Sophia held back her tears and softly said, “Mom, don’t worry. I will be happy.”

After tidying up the room, she suddenly remembered that she had design drafts and fabric samples for her online clothing store at her best friend Ella Markle's shop, so she sent her the address and asked her to bring the items over.

Half an hour later, the doorbell rang.

"Ella, is that you? How come you're so fast this time..."

Sophia thought it was her best friend coming to deliver something, but when she opened the door, she found a slender, tall young man standing outside.

"Kevin?" He is Ella's little brother, just two years younger than Sophia.

"Sophia, my sister is busy, so she asked me to deliver this!"

There were quite a few things, including fabric and sketches. Sophia couldn't help but chuckle at Kevin's dirty face.

"Go wash up in the bathroom. If your sister sees you like this, she'll definitely take an ugly photo of you and post it on her story."

Kevin laughed foolishly and then headed into the bathroom.

While Kevin was washing up, Sophia thought for a moment and sent a message to Preston

"Mr. Harris, it's almost ten o'clock. Are you coming back tonight?"

On the other side

The business banquet finally ended. Preston rubbed his temples, got into the car tiredly. Only then did he notice Sophia’s message asking if he would come home.

“Sir, are we going to the Harris family home or the apartment?”

The driver happened to ask.

The Harris family home was the old residence where his grandmother and his second uncle’s family lived. The apartment was where Preston usually stayed.

Preston swiped through his phone and quickly saw a recent post pop up in his social media feed.

It was posted half an hour ago, Sophia: “A new step forward.”

No picture was attached

Marriage...was just a small step for her?

Preston withdrew his gaze, “To Oceana Wind Tower.”

Preston got into the car and suddenly remembered something, “Stop at the community entrance. You can head back afterward.”

He had parked a two thousand-dollar car in the Oceana Wind Tower parking lot. While Sophia might not recognize the watch’s brand, she should still recognize a Maybach.

The car stopped at the community entrance.

Preston reached the entrance and didn’t inform Sophia of his arrival.

He turned the key and opened the door, immediately hearing a man’s cheerful voice inside.

“Sister Sophia, I’m leaving now. If you need anything, just give me a call.”

Preston frowned slightly, seeing a handsome young man walking out of the apartment...
