Chapter 30 Offering Yourself
Stanley entered the private room and saw Bethany inside.
At first, he was stunned by the bloody scene, but then quickly recovered and hastily changed his words, "I mean... What's up? It turns out you're here to rescue the damsel in distress!"
Vincent breathed a sigh of relief, thinking Stanley was clever to cover up the situation in time.
"Turn around!" Vincent commanded in a low voice.
Stanley tactfully turned away, avoiding seeing Bethany's disheveled appearance. At the same time, he let out a long sigh of relief.
Thankfully, they didn't reveal anything. Otherwise, Vincent would have made him regret it!
Vincent bent down, scooped up Bethany, and then picked up the coat he had thrown on the chair earlier, draping it over her.
His chest was like a safe harbor, warm and powerful.
It felt too much like Vincent's.
"Thank you for saving me. I thought you were that person..." Bethany's voice trailed off weakly, choked with tears. "But I was mistaken."
Exhausted, she passed out, tears from the corners of her eyes staining Vincent's chest.
Passing by Stanley, Vincent muttered numbly, "I'll take her home first. You handle the rest. They must pay for what they've done."
"Understood!"
Stanley approached the battered Bobby, squatting down with a sinister smirk. "You dare to harm my brother. You're in for it!"
...
Vincent took Bethany away, and as they got into the car, Jacob, who had been keeping watch, happened to see them.
Bethany's face and upper body were covered by his clothes, but Jacob still recognized that it was Bethany.
He hurriedly got out of the car, but Vincent had already dashed off. In the night, Jacob couldn't make out the man's face, but he noted the license plate number.
It was Y666666, belonging to the Harper family.
Jacob thought, "How was Bethany connected to the Harper family? And the silhouette of that man felt familiar."
Jacob tried calling Bethany, but she didn't pick up.
Jacob panicked.
...
Throughout the journey, Bethany remained curled up in Vincent's arms. She had already drunk and combined with the shock, she couldn't sleep soundly.
Vincent comforted her with gentle pats on her back, much like one would soothe a child. Bethany's furrowed brows gradually relaxed, and she fell into a deep sleep.
Vincent brought Bethany home and carried her straight to the bedroom. He carefully laid her down on the bed, then fetched a basin of water to clean her up and brought a set of pajamas for her.
As he reached to undo Bethany's clothes, his fingertips trembled slightly. With a moment of hesitation, he moved to undo the buttons.
One by one, he unfastened them.
Bethany's fair and soft chest came into full view.
Her body emitted a faint fragrance mingled with the scent of alcohol, stimulating his senses.
Although Vincent hadn't been drinking, his breath became uncontrollably erratic.
His Adam's apple bobbed as he suppressed the desire within him.
The process of changing her clothes felt like a trial by fire. When it was over, Vincent was drenched in sweat.
He was never able to resist Bethany.
He tucked Bethany in. Under the dim night light, her pale face looked pitiful. Vincent couldn't help but reach out, gently caressing her cheek.
Her delicate skin felt so tender, and his gaze deepened.
Perhaps due to the high temperature, Bethany kicked off the blanket, revealing her slender waist. It was particularly eye-catching.
Vincent swallowed hard, intending to cover her back up, but Bethany grabbed his hand and held it tightly to her chest.
In the quiet night, she murmured, "Vincent, I'm so scared. Please don't leave..."
Vincent's whole body tensed up.
Bethany didn't let go of him.
As he lay down on the bed, pulling Bethany into his arms, his nose brushed against her ear as he whispered, "I won't leave again."
...
Bethany had a nightmare, filled with unpleasant memories from before. She woke up, drenched in cold sweat.
Golden sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains. She looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings, recalling how Stanley had saved her in her moment of peril.
Bethany thought, "So, this is his house?"
She got out of bed, and when she put on her shoes, she noticed she was wearing men's pajamas. She didn't know what was going on.
Bethany thought, "Did Stanley change my clothes for me?"
The thought made Bethany's ears inexplicably hot.
She stepped out of the bedroom into a luxurious space. It was a spacious apartment, meticulously clean and comfortable. Through the large windows in the living room, she could overlook the majestic river, offering a delightful view.
It was a world of difference from the single-room apartment she had rented.
Bethany thought, “No wonder everyone would be so respectful to him. He is loaded."
At that moment, Vincent was sitting in the living room reading a book. He was dressed in casual attire, with his slightly disheveled hair partially covering his eyes. The sunlight streaming in through the windows gave him a lazy and relaxed aura.
It was a stark contrast to the menacing look he had when he was fighting last night.
Bethany felt a bit dazed.
She couldn't help but recall Vincent reading in the school hallway. He was in his school uniform, bathed in sunlight, and exuded a lazy charm.
And she, just watching him from afar, felt completely content.
They looked too similar.
Their eyes met, and Vincent glanced at her. "Awake," he said.
Bethany nodded and said, "Thank you for saving me last night. I don't know what would have happened if you didn't come in time."
"It was just a coincidence. I happened to be going for dinner and heard some commotion on the way," Vincent said casually as if it were a small matter.
But Bethany was genuinely thankful to him.
She said, "I owe you a debt of gratitude, and I will definitely repay you."
"How do you plan to repay me?" he inquired.
Bethany felt a bit embarrassed, tugging at the corner of her pajamas. "There are things I have that you probably wouldn't be interested in. Maybe in the future, I can repay you in other ways."
Vincent smiled teasingly, "Are you building castles in the air for me? I haven't had breakfast."
Bethany quickly shook her head and said, "I'm not making false promises. I really want to repay you."
Vincent made a suggestion, "Then, how about offering yourself as repayment?"
Bethany hesitated, unsure if he was joking with her. For a moment, she twisted her eyebrows, as if caught in a dilemma.
"Just kidding. Just remember my favor," Vincent said.
Bethany breathed a sigh of relief, asking, "What about Bobby? He might call the police."
Vincent replied, "I'll handle that. You don't need to worry about it."
"I'm sorry for causing you trouble." Bethany felt guilty.
She never liked inconveniencing others, and this time, she caused quite a lot of trouble.
"It's rare to see you being so obedient. It's worth it," Vincent chuckled.
There was a hint of flirtation in his words.
Bethany's cheeks flushed slightly, and she cleared her throat, asking, "By the way, did you change my clothes?"
"What if I did, and what if I didn't?" Vincent teased, leaving her hanging.
