Chapter 304
Chapter 304
Lira's POV
Cole shrugged, pretending it was no big deal, but the devotion in his eyes couldn't fool anyone. "I promised I'd take care of her, no matter what."
Sophie interlaced her fingers with Cole's, and they exchanged a look filled with profound emotion. I suddenly realized something had changed between them, their connection deeper than I remembered. Death and survival really do change everything, don't they?
Wendy approached Sophie cautiously, looking up at her curiously. "Hello," she said politely, "I'm Wendy. Who are you?"
Sophie crouched down to Wendy's eye level. "I'm Sophie, your mom's best friend," she said softly, her eyes shining with tenderness. "You look just like your dad, but when you smile, you're exactly like your mom."
"She's pretty," Wendy turned to tell me, flashing an approving smile. This kid, always so straightforward.
Erin clapped her hands, interrupting the emotional moment. "Alright, everyone in position! Ceremony starts in twenty minutes!" She began directing everyone. "Sophie, you and Cole go first. Lily, Zoey, you follow right behind them. Wendy, remember to walk slowly and scatter the petals beautifully."
---
We left the villa, making our way down the path leading to the beach. I held my father's arm, carrying a bouquet adorned with local flowers and delicate seashells, standing at the back of the procession. Through the gaps in the leaves, I could see the floral arch set up on the distant beach where Nathan waited for me.
I can't believe we finally made it here. Memories washed over me like the tide—that fateful night I met him at the bar; that adventurous one-night stand that triggered countless incredible events; all those dangers and challenges we faced together... everything felt like it happened just yesterday.
"Nervous, sweetheart?" my father asked softly, his fingers reassuringly patting the back of my hand.
I took a deep breath and shook my head. "Not nervous, just... surreal. After everything we've been through, we're actually standing here."
"Your mother would be so proud of you," he said again, his voice choked with emotion. "She always said you were destined for an extraordinary life. Looks like she was right."
The music started, a gentle traditional Hawaiian melody. Sophie and Cole led the way down the beach path strewn with seashells and flower petals, as guests turned to watch the wedding party approach. Wendy followed behind the bridesmaids, carefully scattering petals, occasionally looking up to flash a brilliant smile at the guests, drawing gentle laughter.
It was our turn. My father escorted me as we slowly walked down the path. Sunlight filtered through palm leaves, casting dappled shadows across the sand. Guest seats on both sides were decorated with tropical flowers and seashells, with the endless blue ocean and clear sky as the backdrop.
My gaze moved past the crowd, locking directly on the man standing beneath the floral arch—Nathan. He wore a light beige suit, his hair gently tousled by the sea breeze, his blue-gray eyes fixed on me with undisguised love and pride. God, he's gorgeous. Even after all these years, my heart still raced at his gaze.
After completing her walk, Wendy ran straight to Nathan, arms outstretched. He smiled, bending down to pick her up, planting a kiss on her cheek before setting her down in the front row.
When my father and I reached the end of the path, he placed a gentle kiss on my forehead. "I'm proud of you, Lira," his voice trembled with emotion. "Now go find your happiness."
I transferred my hand from my father's arm to Nathan's, feeling the warmth and strength of his palm. "You look incredible," he whispered.
"Not too shabby yourself, Mr. Hayes," I quipped playfully, trying to mask my nervousness. "You clean up pretty nice."
We faced the officiant as the sound of waves accompanied the soft music, involuntarily helping me relax. When we exchanged vows, Nathan spoke first.
"Lira, our meeting itself was a miracle. From the moment I first saw you, I knew you were different. We've been through countless challenges together, faced death threats, and yet here we stand." His hand tightly held mine. "I love your courage, your stubbornness, that never-give-up spirit in you. I promise to always protect you and Wendy, to always support your dreams, to always be there when you need me. Just as this ocean never ceases, my love for you will never change."
My vision blurred with tears, but I forced myself to focus and speak my own vows.
"Nathan, before I met you, I thought I knew what love was. But you showed me the true meaning of love—it's sacrifice, protection, understanding, and acceptance. You accepted all of me, including my flaws and fears. Without your love and support, I couldn't have done anything." I took a deep breath, my voice slightly trembling with emotion. "You are my everything—my lover, my protector, my daughter's father, the greatest gift in my life. I promise to cherish you, respect you, and love you for the rest of my life."
The officiant smiled and announced, "I now pronounce you husband and wife—Nathan and Lira Hayes."
I couldn't help asking, "May I kiss my husband now?"
The officiant's eyes twinkled. "You may."
Nathan leaned toward me, gently cradling my face in his hands. When his lips touched mine, time seemed to stand still. His kiss was tender yet firm, carrying the scent of pine and sandalwood, as if pouring all his love into that moment. I closed my eyes, completely immersed in the beauty of this moment, feeling his strong arms around me, giving me a sense of security I'd never felt before.
The applause around us blurred into the background, leaving only this moment we shared. The golden light of the setting sun bathed us, making me feel incomparably warm and happy.
When we parted, I saw the same promise in his eyes—whatever the future held for us, we would face it together. After everything, we had finally found our way home.
We're finally home.
