Chapter 187 Adrian Is Being Resuscitated!

Violet's hands suddenly gripped the steering wheel, her knuckles turning white. She stomped on the brakes three times, but the car didn't slow down at all.

The road ahead was a gentle slope, and the car was picking up speed.

She glanced at the rearview mirror. No cars behind her. She quickly turned the wheel, trying to steer toward the emergency lane on the right.

But the steering had gone stiff too.

A big truck suddenly appeared around the bend ahead, its high beams shining straight at her.

Violet squinted without thinking. The car was out of control, the wheel wouldn't turn, and the car was heading straight for the truck.

The truck driver saw something was wrong and kept blasting the horn.

Violet held the wheel tight, cold sweat on her forehead. Only one thought left in her head—she couldn't dodge it. She was going to hit it head-on.

Right then, headlights flashed from the right side, followed by a loud screech of tires.

A black Maybach sped up from Violet's right, its body almost scraping her car door as it shot past.

Violet's eyes went wide. She recognized the familiar license plate.

It was Adrian.

Bang!

A huge crash. The Maybach slammed into the back of her car from the side. The force shoved her car forward and to the left.

Violet was jerked forward by the seatbelt, then thrown sideways. The airbag popped out with a bang. Her vision went white, and her ears rang.

But the car had changed direction.

She was pushed out of the lane. Her out-of-control car slid past the side of the truck, metal grinding with a sharp, awful sound and sparks flying.

Violet's car hit the guardrail and finally stopped.

She was pinned by the airbag, everything blurry, her ears full of ringing.

Violet tried to turn her head and look out through the broken window.

The Maybach hadn't stopped.

The impact and angle had driven its front into the side of the truck. The hood was smashed up, parts flying everywhere. The truck dragged it forward for more than ten meters before stopping with a loud screech of brakes.

Violet stared at the wrecked black Maybach, a wave of fear rising in her chest.

"Adrian..." Her voice caught in her throat.

The ringing faded. She could hear horns, cars slamming on their brakes, people shouting and making phone calls.

Violet reached for the seatbelt. Her hands were shaking so badly she couldn't get it undone at first.

She finally managed to unbuckle it, pushed the door open, and stumbled out. Her knees hit the asphalt hard, but she didn't stop.

She leaned on the smashed door, got to her feet, and walked toward the Maybach one step at a time.

Streetlights lit up the overturned truck and the wrecked car. Broken glass and metal parts were everywhere on the ground.

The front of the Maybach was completely crushed. The bumper was bent into a mess of scrap metal. The hood was flipped up, showing twisted parts inside.

Violet saw the driver's seat.

Adrian was sitting there, blood running down the side of his face. The airbag had only partly deployed. His body was slumped to one side, like he'd passed out.

"Adrian!"

Violet ran over and slapped the smashed door. It was jammed. She couldn't open it. She could only look at him through the broken window.

His shirt was soaked with blood. His arm hung at a strange angle. His eyes were closed, and his face was deathly pale.

"Adrian, wake up—"

Violet's voice shook. Her eyes were red.

People were gathering now. Someone grabbed her arm and pulled her back.

"Miss, don't move! We've already called an ambulance!"

"The car's leaking oil. Stay back!"

Violet was dragged backward. Then the ambulance lights flashed in the dark. Paramedics rushed over, pried the door open with tools, and pulled Adrian out of the driver's seat.

She watched them lift him onto a stretcher. Blood from his arm dripped onto the road, one drop at a time.

"Adrian!" Violet tried to run forward.

A paramedic stopped her. "Miss, you're hurt too. Please let us check you."

She couldn't hear the rest. Everything went black, and she collapsed.

When she woke up again, she was looking at a white ceiling. The smell of disinfectant filled her nose.

Violet opened her eyes. Her vision was blurry for a few seconds before it cleared.

She was lying in a hospital bed with an IV in the back of her right hand and a thin white blanket over her. Her arms and knees ached from the scrapes she'd gotten in the crash.

The door opened. A nurse walked in with a tray. When she saw Violet awake, she came over quickly. "You're up? Don't move yet. You have some mild soft tissue bruises and a slight concussion. You need to stay for observation."

Violet looked up, her voice hoarse. "Where's Adrian? How is he?"

The nurse paused. "You mean the man who came in with you?"

Violet nodded, her eyes red. "Where is he?"

The nurse's face changed a little. She lowered her voice. "He's badly hurt. He's still in emergency care."

Violet's chest tightened. She threw off the blanket and tried to get out of bed.

The nurse held her down. "Miss, don't move. You're not in any condition to get up."

"Which room is he in?" Violet's voice shook.

"He's still in the emergency room." The nurse kept a hand on her shoulder, trying to calm her. "Please stay calm. The doctors are doing everything they can."

Violet sat on the edge of the bed, tears filling her eyes. "He did it to save me..."

The next second, ignoring the nurse, she yanked the IV out of her arm and ran out of the room, heading straight for the emergency room like she was crazy.

The hallway was long. The lights were harsh white. Everything smelled like disinfectant and medicine.

The red light above the emergency room was still on.

Violet saw Edward sitting on a bench in the hallway, his back slightly hunched, both hands resting on his cane.

Hearing footsteps, Edward looked up. When he saw Violet, his eyes filled with worry.

"Violet..." His voice was old and tired. "How are you?"

Violet shook her head. "I'm fine. Adrian, he..."

Before she could finish, the red light went off. A doctor in surgical scrubs walked out quickly, his mask pulled down halfway, his face serious.

He stopped in front of them. "The patient's condition has stabilized for now, but he's not out of danger yet."

Edward's hand shook on his cane. "What's the situation?"

The doctor's face was grim. "There's bleeding in the brain, a comminuted fracture in his left arm, and three broken ribs—one almost punctured his lung. The fact that he made it to the operating room at all is a miracle."

Violet stood there listening to every word about Adrian's injuries. Tears streamed down her face.

"When will he wake up?" she asked, choking up.

The doctor looked at her with a hint of apology. "We can't say for sure. It depends on the patient's own will. In the worst case, he might never wake up."
