Chapter 54 Chapter 54
Chapter 54 Chapter 54
Felix POV
After my three fights are over, I stay around the school, not really willing to go home yet. Most of the students have already cleared out, either heading home or making plans for Shelly’s party, but I’ve been finding every excuse I can to stay here a little longer.
“You can’t avoid him,” Luther, my wolf, says.
“I know. I just need to get my story straight.”
More specifically, I need to figure out what the hell I’m supposed to tell my father. I’ve done what he asked. I’ve talked to Kaelani, tried to get closer to her, even sent her a DM, but she’s almost never alone anymore.
Kieran, Liam, or Zaire is always around her. Usually all three.
“Hey, Felix, you okay?”
I look up as Caelum walks toward me.
“Yeah, man, I’m good. What are you doing here? I figured you would’ve left with your new friend group.”
He laughs. “Yeah, we definitely formed a little group. But a girl I like was still here. I just wanted to make sure she was going to the party tonight,” he says, smirking.
I nod, barely paying attention to that part. Caelum has been around Kaelani a lot lately, which means he might know more than most people.
“Hey, do you know if Kaelani is a witch?” I ask, hoping he’ll tell me.
He stills for a second.
It’s quick, but I notice it.
“Not that I know of. Why?”
“Well, all the weird stuff that’s been happening around her at school... students are starting to talk.”
It’s not completely a lie. People have definitely noticed the lights, the shaking, and all the other weird shit that seems to happen whenever Kaelani is around.
It’s just not the real reason I’m asking.
Truth is, my father has been pushing me to get close to her.
At first, I didn’t think much of it. My father asks me about people at school all the time, especially other future pack leaders and their families. But he doesn’t usually keep asking.
With Kaelani, he does.
Did I talk to her? What did we talk about? Who does she spend time with? Have I noticed anything strange about her?
And lately, the questions have gotten more specific.
Hard to get close to her with her three new boyfriends.
Not that I think they’re actually her boyfriends. I have no idea what the hell those four have going on, but trying to get Kaelani alone with three Alpha heirs constantly circling her is damn near impossible.
My father isn’t going to care about that.
“Oh, yeah. I don’t know about that,” Caelum says. “But I’ll see you later tonight.”
“Yeah, see you.”
He walks away.
I watch him for a second.
He knows something.
Maybe not everything, but that little pause told me enough.
I don’t even know what’s so special about Kaelani.
I mean, she’s pretty and nice, and after watching her during placements, it’s obvious she’s a hell of a fighter. But none of that explains my father’s obsession with me getting close to her.
What does he want with her?
Every time I ask, he tells me to stop asking questions and do what he says.
Which only makes me want answers more.
I have to figure out a way to get close to her.
I don't like using her when she hasn't done anything to me, but until I figure out what my father actually wants, I don't have much of a choice.
Tonight I’ll talk to her.
Shelly’s party might be the first chance I’ve had where those three aren’t hovering over every conversation.
I can ask Kaia for help.
She likes me.
At least I think she does.
If I can get Kaelani alone long enough to actually talk to her, maybe I can finally give my father enough to get him off my back.
Or maybe I'll finally figure out why he cares so much in the first place.
Aliza POV
I sit in my room waiting for Lena and Stephanie to get here.
My phone is beside me on the bed, the school post still open on the screen. I should close it, but every time I do, I end up opening it again.
Kaelani sitting between them.
Kieran holding her.
Kieran kissing her.
His hands on her.
Then the image that pisses me off the most—her sitting on top of him in the middle of the sparring field while everyone watched.
“Aliza, I don’t think we should do this,” Seris says.
“I don’t care what you think.”
“But you don’t know what could happen after.”
I toss my phone onto the bed.
“I don’t care about after. I care about getting what I want.”
Seris growls softly inside my head.
“Kieran isn't something for you to get. He made a choice.”
My jaw tightens.
“And he made the wrong one.”
She goes quiet for a second before trying again.
“Dark magic isn't going to make him choose you.”
“Enough.”
I block her out.
How the hell did I end up with such a weak wolf?
She should want Kieran back as badly as I do. Instead, all she's done since he ended things is tell me to accept it.
I'm not accepting shit.
A knock on my door pulls me from my thoughts.
“Come in.”
Lena and Stephanie walk inside.
“So what did she say?” I ask Lena the moment the door closes behind her.
“Hello to you too, Aliza.”
I suck my teeth and roll my eyes.
“Hi, Lena. Now what did she say?”
She gives me an irritated look but doesn't bother arguing.
“She said you need something that belongs to both of them, and then you need to go to her shop for her to perform the spell.”
“What’s the spell?” Stephanie asks.
Lena looks at her. “I don’t know, Stephanie. I told her what Aliza said, and she said she had the perfect spell and told me to tell you that.”
Stephanie shifts beside her.
Unlike me, she still looks nervous about this.
I shrug. “Well, that’s easy. I already have a bunch of Kieran’s stuff. What about you, Steph?”
“I can try to get something of Zaire’s.”
“Something personal,” Lena says. “My aunt said the witch was very specific about that. Something they've worn or used enough to have their energy attached to it.”
I immediately think about the hoodie Kieran left here weeks ago.
Perfect.
“Are you two sure about this?” Lena asks. “There’s still time to change your minds.”
I sigh heavily.
“Lena, shut up already. I’m not changing my mind. He was mine first.” My voice rises on the last part.
She shakes her head.
“Yeah, and he broke up with you, Aliza. He didn’t cheat. He just moved on.”
The words hit harder than they should.
Moved on.
Like everything between us meant nothing. Like he could just wake up one morning, decide he wanted my sister instead, and I was supposed to accept it.
“None of it would matter if it wasn’t her.”
Lena’s brows furrow.
“It’s her,” I snap. “She got him. He picked her. Don’t you get it?”
My chest rises and falls faster.
If Kieran had left me and started dating some random girl at school, maybe I could've gotten over it eventually.
But Kaelani?
No.
Not her.
“Just get out. Both of you.”
“Fine, Aliza, but after this, keep me out of whatever you get yourself into because I told you not to do it.”
Lena turns and walks out.
The door closes behind her, leaving Stephanie standing there.
“I’ll see you later at the party, Aliza,” Stephanie says.
She hesitates like she wants to say something else, but apparently thinks better of it.
Then she leaves too.
The room goes quiet.
Lena thinks she can change my mind.
She doesn’t know what it’s like coming second to her my entire life.
Kaelani never even had to try. That was the worst part.
She didn't ask for everyone's attention. She didn't fight me for Kieran. She didn't have to.
People just chose her.
And now Kieran has too.
Kieran was mine.
I look toward my closet, already knowing exactly where his hoodie is.
No.
He is mine.
