Chapter 88 88
Chapter 88 88
Unknown person's point of view
The Raynell Witch and I just began the spell to find out the traitor witch—which is me, by the way. But she couldn't know this yet. It was a good thing I managed to convince her to let me help in the spell with the pretext that she would be channeling a werewolf. I smiled mentally at my creativity. It wasn't easy taking that she-wolf form, Gabriella. I also had to cloak my witch's energy and adopt a werewolf scent. But it was very easy tricking the male witch with only the name of the Luna. I smiled again, proud at how smoothly things were going.
I had to pry into her subconsciousness and find out where she was keeping the box of Cora. Afterward, I would use my magic on her, keeping her trapped in her subconscious while I got the box and finally came back to take her to my queen. She would be so pleased.
The more the Raynell witch kept chanting, the more I drained from her powerful magic, prying secretly into her head for the box. But I still couldn't find it; it was like she had it locked up in an impenetrable corner of her mind. But I would find it; I was confident I would.
My eyes were wide open while I dived into her mind, and hers were closed shut, concentrating deeply to find the mole. I laughed humorously; unfortunately, I was sitting right in front of her.
The Raynell witch's eyes pushed open, falling on me as her lips kept on moving, chanting. I quickly pushed out an innocent smile, the one she-wolf Brielle would produce. I guessed that did the trick; the Raynell witch shut her eyes closed. A triumphant smile came to my lips. I continued my mission, searching her mind. I felt like I was almost there, but the more I thought I was there, the more I arrived at nothing. Her mind was like a damn maze. But I think I found something; I knew I would. In the cloud of her mind, I followed her. She was walking into her room with the box in hand. I followed closely behind, also entering her room. I saw her sitting on the bed. Her eyes met mine, and a crafty smile found her lips.
Then, suddenly and abruptly, "You won't find it in there," came her voice. Instantly, I was jerked away from her mind. My eyes held her bright blue eyes that she bored into me. The candle flames around also burned blue. "Found you!" Her eyes were colored with a dangerous glow.
She knew it was me. How did she find me? I knew I had to prepare for a fight. Before I could move a muscle, I was pinned against the rough cave walls.
"Did you actually think you could deceive me? Did you think I wouldn't know you were snooping around in my head... Helene?" She called my name, using her magic to strip off the disguise of the wolf I had on. Her deep smile turned into a terrifying frown that meant someone was about to die.
Brielle's point of view
I stared back at the male witch, Reagan, as he gave me creepy stares. I think he had come up with an idea to get us out of here, but deep down, I felt I wouldn't like it.
"There," he said coolly, staring at a dark corner of the wall.
Hanging there was an object carved in a wolf form. "What the hell is that?"
"It's a totem and our ticket out of here." He didn't move; only his eyes kept darting back and forth.
"How?"
He seemed to be getting pissed, but I could hardly care. I just wanted to get out of here and ensure our Luna was safe.
"That's why the witch could trap you in here too. That's the alteration she made. That totem there represents you... your wolf."
"What? That thing over there represents me? What the fuck?" I gasped, not believing this.
"There's no time to spare. Grab it. I'll tell you exactly what to do. No, in fact, it's simple: just throw it against the entrance. It will break down the spell keeping you here. Then, when you are out, you call me out."
I scoffed. "There's no way I'm touching that. For all I know, you want me dead!"
"Hmm... smart. But inasmuch as I would love crushing that beastly heart of yours, I know Aderyn would never forgive me, so I'd rather not."
He was right. Aderyn would actually kill him for that, but I did not trust him. Even the slightest bit.
"Do it, Brielle. He's right. That's the only way you can get out of here," from the far end of the dungeon, Monica's voice sounded.
I sighed in resignation. I reached really high, grabbing the wolf object. I held it in my hand for a long second, staring at it.
"What are you waiting for, wolf?" He was impatient.
I threw the totem at the entrance. It landed on an invisible wall that trapped us in. Immediately at its crashing, the totem broke, falling on the ground.
I raced outside. I actually could get out.
"Now call me out," he sounded from inside, still trapped.
"Why can't you come out yourself?" I said haughtily, getting on his nerves.
He glared at me with a deathly gaze. "If I could, wolf, would I be asking you? In case you have forgotten, this dungeon was built to keep witches locked in."
Inasmuch as I wanted to torture the witch, Aderyn needed our help. So I called him out. "You can come out too, devil."
He tried getting past but still couldn't. His death stare was back on me, more gruesome.
"Why didn't it work?"
"Try Reagan, wolf," he spat venomously.
"Come out, Reagan."
He took a step and was out. He didn't even spare me a glance. Instantly, he raced away.
I called Monica out too. At this point, it was well-established that Aderyn was right. Monica was far from being the traitor.
Aderyn's point of view
I stood in front of the traitor we had been hunting. It was Helene after all. I guess a part of me knew this. To be honest, I never trusted her. Though she always hung around Celeste and the witches, I felt there was more to her than she was letting on. And I was right.
What did she think? That she could con me? Get into my head without me even realizing it? That was just plain stupid.
"So how did you know?" came her ridiculous question. I still had her pinned to the tough walls, the cave walls eating through her flesh.
She groaned in pain. "Was it the werewolf charade? Or—"
"Try you being too stupid to even come near me. I could smell the witch magic pumping through your veins. And besides, you did quite bad at being Gabriella."
She did really bad at that. But then again, that wasn't the only reason I knew her truth. She was being too insistent. Then I felt her aura once I had started the spell; she was channeling me instead, snooping around in my mind to find mother's box. Well, that was stupidly lame.
"Why does Raina want the box?" I asked, keeping her still pinned on the wall.
"You can ask her yourself if you come with me."
"I'll pass. What does she want with me?" I asked again.
"I will not say, not until you tell me where the box is and set me free."
She thought she was in the position to make demands.
I let out a murderous chuckle. "Then you are no use to me alive." I held her tightly with my power, pushing her through the rough walls. Her flesh began to tear open at every push.
I was about to stop her heart when she abruptly spoke. "Wait! I have something to tell you."
I ignored her words.
"It's about the Alpha and the curse..."
I hesitated for a second, staring at her. I knew she was stalling, but I was more curious about what she had to say.
"The shadow queen wants him dead. She wants the entire werewolf kind gone."
"Not news to me." I held on tightly.
"The moon is some weeks away. I'm sure you can feel it; even the queen feels it. The impending doom that awaits your mate."
Her words were arrows to me, reminding me of the concurrent nightmares I had been having of Dylan dying with the pack.
It took a second of me losing focus; Helene broke from my magical hold. In the next second, she made some kind of a mirage of herself. She was everywhere in massive numbers.
"Now Luna, where were we?" Her laughter echoed in the cave.
I knew this trick all so well. I just had to find the real Helene and kill her; then her mirage would be gone as well. That was the only way to defeat her. No matter how many mirages of her I killed, she wouldn't die, but unfortunately, the attack from any mirage of her was bloody real.
I took a step back, my eyes scanning through the numerous faces of Helene closing in on me. I took a stance, then I attacked.
