Chapter 29

Chapter 29
To bicker like market women? Not a Chance.
Reputation in this era was everything. Not just for their pride, but for the clan's safety too.
If such news of them being overly female matters or being petty gets out, it would make many think they've grown softer. By then, it wouldn't be long before some daring people come together to take them down.
Yes. They should be able to win against humans, but if people constantly attack them their secret was most likely to get out at some point.
Do you know what many secretly call their territory? The untouchable lands.
For decades, those who sneak into their lands have never returned. This built their reputation, causing many to flinch whenever a bold person came up with plans to enter their lands.
It's precisely because of this reputation that they rarely get visitors. What's more, should many think Jane was their Laird's weakness, even the lass wouldn't be able to keep her little life.
"Laird, we can speak to our partners to ease the tension. However, this will only be a temporal solution. The lass must win others to her side for herself. No one can fight her battles for her."
Leith doubted the girl even needed someone to fight for her. She was a stubborn one, with enough grit to match many. So long as no one raises a hand to strike her, the lass would turn all her squabbling battles to victories with her mouth alone.
They already heard the reports about what went down in the kitchen. However, they couldn't reprimand those haughty girls since it would make things worse for the lass, making the women's hatred for her grow more.
Their laird has never reprimanded them so much for a woman. If he did so, they wouldn't hate him, but transfer their rage to her. By then, who knows if their claws would remain unhinged?
"Laird. He's right." Brodie shrugged. "Only women can fight best with women."
"Hmmm."
Alexander was silent, no one knowing his thoughts.
"Finish yer practice and have a few words with yer partners. I'll see ye at lunch."
Brodie, Leith, and Dugo stared at Alexander's fleeting silhouette thoughtfully.
"Where do ye think he's going?"
"The answer is obvious, isn't it?"
"Yeah... Our Laird is hooked. I do not know if that is a good or a bad thing. However, regardless of the end, we stand with our Laird."
WHAT A BEAUTY!
Jane's eyes stayed transfixed in amazement, appreciating the many sights before her.
She dared to say the sight was the most beautiful she had seen.
The trees painted an enchanting portrait, with a crystal river at its center. The lake was the finished and clearest of mirrors, showing the sweeping clouds above.
Despite the heavy ripples from the colorful waterfall, it still left an air of mystery that mesmerized Jane.
The waterfall had peculiar patterns on the rocks, as though the sun had poked rainbow stains on them.
It was probably why the waterfall was called rainbow waterfall.
It was four stories high with water heavily cascading into the lake below. Compared to the many soaring waterfalls in the world, those would be considered small.
Nonetheless, listening to the thunderous gushing sounds from the lake, Jane knew it wasn't as safe as it seemed.
Tavish had taken Jane to the very start of the lake, where the waterfall fell into it.
The birds chirped, the sun flared, and the stagnant winds blew as though non-existent. Yet, the trees gave a sense of calm and coolness thanks to their shadows. With this view, what more could one ask for?
Hahahhahahahahaha~
Tavish laughed happily. "See? Didn't I tell you it was the most beautiful place?"
"Sitting underneath a tree, Jane nodded. "Thank you, Tavish."
"No worries. No worries! Just doing my job, lady Jane." Tavish teased, purposefully calling her Lady Jane.
Such a sight called for a picnic. Thus, they began unraveling the foods in the Baskets.
Jane touched her belly, feeling it rumble. All this walking and talking has made her hungry. But unlike Tavish she wasn't used to eating cold food. As a person who came from the era of microwaves, aluminum foils and other containers to keep food warm, she knew her belly would never agree to it so easily.
The meat and breakfast soup were already cold so she could eat those. What's more, they already ate their bread like snacks while touring. So all she could eat was the selection of wild berries and grapes left.
At least there was a lot of ale in her horned jug to fill her belly up till the next meal in the Keep.
Tavish's eyes widened in disbelief. "Are ye sure ye won’t be eating any? Look! They especially left you so much meat and soup, giving ye a special order and ye don't want any?"
Jane didn't want Tavish to think she was looking down on their food. So she bulged her belly and slapped it hard.
"Look. I'm so blasted because of drinking so much ale. My belly has no place for all of it. All I can eat are some fruits."
Tavish looked at her belly, as though confirming the facts, before nodding vigorously.
It's a fact that humans eat less than werewolves. It's said English women have even smaller appetites than Scottish women, thus, the reason why they often ate less when in the company of others. So seeing her bulging belly, she quickly accepted Jane's share of food.
Jane sighed, feeling that Tavish was too easy to deceive.
Well, she felt guilty, but that guilt was quickly swept away after seeing Tavish's foodie nature.
As they ate, Tavish spoke more about their clan. But Jane could see it was mostly general knowledge. These were matters common to all clans and major households.
'To gain their trust, I must first be useful to them.' Jane thought deeply.
Soon, an idea began forming in her chaotic mind.
