Chapter 27
Chapter 27
Jane didn't know how she found herself kneeling alongside Tavish while getting an earful of nagging from Father Gregory.
She felt if given the chance, he would talk for a week-long if he could.
Tsk.
No wonder Tavish was trying to make a run for it. Jane shot a glare at Tavish, and the duo suddenly felt telepathic toward each other. Their eyes centered all their thoughts.
"Why would you take us here if you know about Father Gregory?"
"I didn't know he would be here at this time"
Tavish had no tears but wanted to cry. What sort of bad luck was this?
She was not only afraid of father Gregory's lengthy nagging, but also his disturbing penance which left her shuddering.
"Tavish! How old are you this year? 20! And yet you still act like a child when you are an old woman who should be rocking her grandchildren away by now."
Tavish pouted. "But that's impossible. How can I be a grandmother by twen--"
"Keep quiet! Are ye trying to argue with me?" Father Gregory made Tavish helpless.
"No. Father, how dare I?"
"Ye better not for ye own safety. But that's not what yer kneeling for. The last time, I caught ye chewing on bread in the Lord's house and gave you penance for her sins. So how come ye have not done them and reported back to me yet?"
"This... father, I don't think the lord in heaven would be willing h to punish me for eating bread in his house."
How can she wear her hair in such an awful manner for an entire month because of that? What if her beloved thinks her ugly?
"How dare you? What the hell goes on in the heads of ye women? No man will look at her hair and suddenly fall in love with ye. So why bother?"
Jane almost couldn't hold back her laughter, listening to the duo. What sort of penance was that? What happened to saying the 'Our Father' prayer and being done with it?
Now she was curious to know how the priest had asked Tavish to style her hair. Could it be mud and other substances were involved in this?
What Jane didn't know was that Werewolves loved and took care of their fur more than any other being. This was why no matter how ragged they looked in human form, their hair was always luxurious, clean and well-groomed.
Playing with their hair was akin to playing with fire. Tavish just couldn't make herself do it.
"Ye stubborn woman! Ye better be thankful that I didn't tell ye to shave it all off! Are ye saying ye can’t make sacrifices for the lord?"
"Who said that? Of course, I can. But father, what ye asking me to do is blasphemy in my ears. Besides, what's so evil about eating in the chapel?"
"Insolence!" Father Gregory looked like a volcano about to erupt. "Man does not live by bread alone but by God's words. The Word of the Lord says we are the salt of the earth. Out of the belly shall flow rivers of living water and food. So how can ye feel hungry in the presence of the lord? Don't ye knew his presence is strongest in this chapel, so her belly should be filled already? Only those full of sin would feel hungry during his sermon!"
ds is in this chapel all the time. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah."
Jane almost blacked out with how much talk Father Gregory did.
She was grateful she lived in the 21st century because there was no way in hell she would shave her head bald because of such a dime thing as eating in church. She didn't think God was such a petty person but dared not raise her thoughts to Gregory.
What? Can't you see she too was on her knees for a crime she knew nothing about?
"In addition to her previous penance, I will add several more for today's matter. How can ye lie boldly in the house of the lord? Who mops the grass? Do ye think I be a fool to not catch on?"
Jane nodded in agreement. Even she could make up a better lie than Tavish.
"Not only were ye trying to leave the lord's house disrespectfully, but ye also attempted to take one of his sheep away from his flock. It's fine if ye want to die in sin. But why drag Lady Jane into it?"
"_"
Jane blinked her eyes, marveling how ridiculous this priest's mind worked.
"And you lady Jane. I saw the look of hesitation in her eyes earlier. Did ye think of leaving the chapel too?"
Erm... What do you want her to say? What was the right answer to this jeopardy question? Can she use her phone-a-friend chance now?
Tavish secretly shook her head, telling Jane to keep quiet. There was no right answer to this.
Jane closed her mouth, listening to Father Gregory's hit records for the day.
Tavish was already familiar with some of them, like his number hit song: Ye shall abide by the Lord's rules in his house.
Another famous one was: Do ye think ye're judgment is better than the Lord's?
Augh~
Jane almost gave God the middle finger for all the nagging.
Father Gregory wasn't known as the Iron Priest for nothing. No matter who it was, whether a noble, peasant or even the King of Scotland himself, Father Gregory felt everyone was beneath the lord and wouldn't hesitate to lecture them in the lord's house.
Can you believe he made the King of Scotland avoid him like a snake after a single visit? Even Alexander felt like throwing him over a bridge where he got into his God-moods.
God-this God-that.
Please, would you give it a rest already? Even God would be tired of how constantly this guy mentions him for every little thing.
Jane didn't know how she managed to escape Father Gregory's preaching. Looking at her watch, she realized they had spent a little over 2 hours there.
She didn't even know what to try prying information from him in the future.
Now, Jane only had one thought in mind.
'I Never run into him again!'
