Chapter 82 Chapter 2: Elva
Chapter 82 Chapter 2: Elva
Elva:
I have never felt so damn ashamed.
I can’t think of anything as I run through the hallway, with tears in my eyes. Shit, why am I suddenly acting like a baby? I knew I shouldn’t have trusted him, what was I even expecting? Some sort of kiss and boom, we fall in love. Of course guys like him don’t go for girls like me.
He played me and I was so gullible, I fell right into his trap. That moment I was kissing him, he looked at me like I was the only thing that mattered, is that how he looks at other girls too? Of course a guy like him is going to have a beautiful girlfriend like her; he just used me to pass time.
Shame cowers at me. Why did my first kiss turn out to be so pathetic? Well, the kiss wasn’t pathetic, I mean, it was heavenly and his hands, damn but what happened after the kiss was pathetic. After the shame leaves, pure rage kicks in. It’s the same anger that makes me march straight up to Professor Callista’s office. I knock and when I hear a faint ‘come in’, I barge straight into her office.
She looks up from her desk, and sighs. “Yes?” she doesn’t seem happy to be interrupted and it really hurts me to do this.
“Elva Costa,” I introduce myself, stepping closer. “Sorry to barge in while you’re busy, but I will like to politely request a change of partner for the project you assigned to us earlier.”
“And why is that?” She drops her pen on the desk, those same sharp eyes looking at me.
“I figured we aren’t compatible to work on a project together.” More like I am not sure I will ever be able to face him after everything that just happened.
“Do you believe in fate, Miss. Costa?” The professor asks me, she doesn’t wait for my response before she continues speaking. “I think fate partnered you up with your partner, I’m sorry but there’s nothing I can do about it. It’s best if you both agree on something together, thank you for your time, Miss. Costa.”
I think that’s her telling me to get the fuck out of her office. With a resigned sigh, I walk out of her office. The hall is busy with students, some coming back from class, some huddled together in a corner. As I go to my dorm, someone tugs at my wrist gently and I realize it’s Alex.
“Leave me alone.” My voice is hard and angry now, “else I’ll scream.”
He quickly lets me go. “I can explain.”
“I don’t think there’s anything to say here.” A few minutes ago, I was shoving my tongue into his mouth and now, I don’t think I can even stand his freaking face.
“She’s not my fucking girlfriend, I don’t even like her, I like you.” He’s breathing heavily now, trying to prove his point.
“You don’t even know me!” I say almost too loudly, making a few eyes turn towards me, I am pretty damn sure rumours are going to start swirling around. “Go find someone else,” without waiting, I turn and begin walking up the stairs, with my heart beating loudly. When I get to my dorm, I shut the door and collapse on the bed, my eyes brimming with tears.
“What happened?” Nixie walks over to me, a hydrating mask on her face and a towel wrapped around her hair, “Is it Alex Vale?”
“How’d you know?” I ask, my voice hard. I don’t mean to take it out on Nixie because she blinks her eyes, quite hurt. I am so freaking stupid.
“Well, it seems like someone took a picture of you guys in the hall.” Nixie explains, sitting beside me.
Right, don’t people have better things to do? Like focusing on their grades or most importantly their life instead of taking snapshots every time they get the chance. I guess Alex and I are going to go viral for some while, just what I need when I plan to graduate as the best student.
It feels like things aren’t going according to plan, I didn’t plan to get involved with the bad boy on my first day here, but we are, with me shoving my tongue into his mouth.
“Where’s Anna?” I ask, staring around the room. Nixie understands that I don’t want to talk about Alex, so she switches topics.
“She’s out somewhere in the courtyard training. She got invited to a training session during lunch which reminds me, I have to leave in the next five minutes. I am having dinner with these students, and it turns out they know stuff about sirens. Who knows, I might be able to get an alternative instead of jumping in the water every few hours.”
Of course, Anna and Nixie haven't even been here for a day and they’re already socializing with people whereas I am stuck with this dumbass plan to make it big in the academy.
“Alright,” I smile so hard I might have broken my molar. “Have fun.”
“You should have fun too,” Nixie says, like I’m not trying my best. People don't fit well with me, I prefer books. “Don’t be crammed up in the dorm all day; we only get to live it once.”
I just keep nodding my head like an automatic robot. After grilling me for five minutes, Nixie gets changed into a comfortable sundress and leaves me alone in the room.
I slump on the bed, staring at the ceiling. Okay, maybe Nixie’s right, I do need some fun in my life, everything is so organized and planned in my life, maybe I need something to spice it up a bit.
Note to self: Spicing things up doesn’t involve almost making out with the school’s bad body, so just a heads up.
As I lay on the bed, I contemplate my choices of fun activities: I can join a study group or a hobby clique, damn it. I can picture Nixie looking at me pathetically, whispering. ‘You can do better, Elvs.’
I feel bored and so bitter, so I pull out my phone and scroll through our family group chat, before it used to be just Ale, Iris, Irene and I but recently, our parents both got added since they have lots of free time when their only son, Ale, has taken over as Alpha.
I am more close to Alejandro, because we had quite an adventure growing up together, we used to do silly stuffs, he never quite judged me for my reading habits, and I wish I could spend every day with him but that doesn’t seem possible because of the distance between us and his alpha duties to fulfil.
Mom: You would not believe who I saw, Ale. Cheryl’s mother! you remember, right? Cheryl from middle school and guess what? Cheryl is single.
I can almost imagine my mother with a smile as she writes this.
Dad: who’s Cheryl from middle school?
Typical of my Dad to have no idea who Cheryl from middle school is, I have no idea who she is also, but also, I consider the age gap between Ale and I quite large.
I see Ale typing and I straighten up.
Ale: For the last time, mom, I really don’t need you setting up my love life, if it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be. Whatever happened to our fate?
It shows Iris is typing; I bite my lips because I am sure she’s going to give a sarcastic reply.
Iris: that fate died when you started getting old, pops. Aren’t you in your forties or something?
I was right.
Ale: That’s not funny! I’m in my thirties; can’t anybody help me out here?
My hands start flying across the keyboard hurriedly.
Me: Let’s all give Ale a break; I am sure he’s very busy. If the right time comes, midnight pack will get its new Luna.
It shows that Ale is the first to view my message because a message pops up in our private chat. Oh boy.
Ale: You good, Elvs?
I look around, am I good? Nope, not even a bit but I don’t want to bother Alejandro, being an Alpha doesn’t exactly mean free time, so I am sure he’s free now, he shouldn’t be using his free time talking to his sister who feels like she won’t make it in the academy.
Me: I am perfectly alright!
My tone feels chirpy, damn it. The last thing I want is him showing up at my dorm and demanding to know if I am ‘perfectly alright’ before he can load me with questions about the academy. I tell him I have to go and immediately log out.

Alex:
She won’t answer any of my texts, I am starting to think that she blocked me, but the message shows delivered and sometimes, she views it without responding. I don’t ever fuck things up, but when it comes to this one thing, this one girl that I really like, I fucked up really badly.
I had a long enough chat with Nadine; I think it’s really shitty to go around telling people we date when we have only just hugged once. Nadine thinks she’s entitled just because she’s the beta’s daughter of my pack and since we’re around the same age, we get shoved into doing most things together. Our level of forced closeness makes her assume absurd things.
Anyways, I told her I am not glad with the dick move she pulled and she apologized, I just hope she wouldn’t be doing any of that in the near future, because there’s not much I can take, especially when it comes to Elva.
The only class we have together is creative arts, which is Professor Callista’s class, so I take it as the chance to talk to her and apologize.
When I walk into the class, she’s seated in the middle, alongside her friends Anna and Nixie. My previous plan was talking to them so I can find a way to apologize to Elva but with the way they’re shooting dagger glares at me, they probably despise me.
Elva looks up from her notebook and catches my eyes; she hurriedly averts her eyes, the tips of her ears turning a faint shade of pink. I smirk because I still have a shot of apologizing without her murdering me with her eyes.
Since Professor Callista isn’t here yet, the class is full of chatter and noise. Apparently, there’s meant to be a full moon coming soon so the academy is hosting a gala so we can discover our mates and unlock our wolf.
It sounds like a whole lot of bullshit to me. I pull out my sketch book and my pencil, drawing. Since I was little, I always have a tendency to draw things I was fascinated about, my mother says that’s what makes me special however now, tons of the pages of my sketchbook is filled with a particular ginger curled girl with sparkling green eyes, alongside with the freckles on her nose that I am tracing with my pencil.
“Leave me alone,” Elva’s voice makes me snap my head to look at her. She’s talking to a guy with a mop of brown hair, apparently it looks like he’s telling jokes or something but Elva doesn’t seem to entertain his shit. I wonder what’s going on.
Elva is starting to get uncomfortable; I can sense it in her palling eyes. My blood is starting to boil because no one gets to make her angry.
“She said leave her the fuck alone.” In a flash, I am in their front giving the loopy guy a hard shove, turns out he’s all bark but no bite. He literally weighs nothing as he almost stumbles to the floor.
Elva gasps, clearly shocked and let’s be honest, not happy with me. “Stop this, Alex.”
But I can’t especially when the dude throws a fist into my face. The whole class gasps, for them, this is quite entertaining.
Fuck, that might leave a bruise. Without thinking, I land a punch straight on his face.
“Shit, what the fuck is wrong with you?” The boy asks, massaging his nose which I’m sure is already bleeding. “Get a life, lovesick freak. I was only talking to her!”
“You were making her uncomfortable.” I am panting, my knuckles curled into a fist ready to pummel into his face any second from now. “If you make her fucking uncomfortable again. I will do more than break your nose. Now go to your seat.”
The boy tries to act like he can fight because he’s getting closer to me, ready to hit me. Why are some people so pathetic?
Elva stands in front of us, giving us a light shove to keep us apart. “Stop fighting!” Surprisingly, she’s angry mostly at me because she keeps looking at me like she wants to murder me.
“To your seat.” I didn’t know she had a strict tone; I puff out an angry breath to my seat. Everyone is shouting ohhs and ahhs but I am not in the mood to deal with anybody crap. Elva is tending to the asshole she was telling five minutes ago to leave her alone.
Just wow, she really hates me that much. My wrist feels kind of broken but nothing hurts more than seeing her checking out his broken nose. Fuck this. Professor Callista arrives with a paper cup of coffee, apologizing profusely for coming late. The class goes on, we learn about the well known artists of the nineteenth century but I can’t bring myself to pay attention because my mind is a solid mess. When class is over, everyone troops out and I haul my backpack onto my shoulders and begin walking out of the class.
I see Elva leaning against the wall with her backpack. When she sees me, she frowns, before grabbing my other wrist that doesn’t feel like it’s broken.
I don’t speak at all; I just let her lead me to her room. She forces me to sit on her bed as she goes to the bathroom. I take a look around their bedroom, massaging my wrist that clearly hurts. Elva appears in three minutes, sitting on the edge of the bed beside me.
“Hold still,” her voice still has that strict tone as she ties a bandage around my wrist, watching my reaction under her pretty lashes, when she’s done. I wince slightly when she pats it.
“Thank you.” I breathe out; it’s been so long since someone has taken care of me like this ever since my mother.
“You can’t go around fighting like that, if you get caught, you could get suspended.” Elva crinkles her nose, clearly annoyed. Is that what she cares about? Quite cheeky, I would have thought she was worried about me getting hurt.
The thought makes me grin like an idiot. She really does still care.
“I am sorry, Elva. I was a complete asshole, I swear, she’s not my girlfriend.” I use this opportunity to apologize, because let’s be honest, this might be the last time she’ll ever hear me out.
“I know that.” She huffs out. “I shouldn’t have made you feel like an idiot.”
“That should be what I have to say.” I sigh, before smiling a bit. “Are we cool now, Elva?”
“Don’t put too much hope on it, Vale.” She says, but there’s the tiniest of smiles playing on her lips.
I come out of her room, smiling like I’d just won the lottery.
