Chapter XVIII-2

I rose my brows and my shoulder at the same time in a way of confirming my words. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to say about the whole 'deal' thing, but I saw no harm from that. "Alright," Her tone was that kind where she showed that she didn't exactly buy it, but went along with it. I heard her mumble a few more words as she turned around - "You know your relationship better than I do.." I was starting to get angry. I found myself walking over to face her again and there were no more lies coming from me. "There is no relationship between Christian and I." I insisted. And it was the plain truth. We had nothing but sex. Once. And it was a really really good one. But that was it. I was once again on the other side of the counter, and now the fridge was behind her as she leaned on the marble platform of the counter before her. "Okay," She grinned and said that almost cheerfully. "Then how did you two decide to call it?" Once again she flashed me this irresistible smile and I could tell that Calliope was the kind that liked hot gossip. Just in the world that we lived in, there was no where that it could spread. Except for my family.. That was bad. "What?- No. We don't 'call' it anything.." I crossed my hands over my chest in protest, but this girl didn't seem to buy any of my acts. "Besides, even if something did happen, it should stay between the two of us." I felt like I cleared my soul from lies.. A bit. Yea, if something happened, which it did, it was supposed to stay in that small circle. Only Christian and I. She seemed to get the point, so she just gave me a comforting chuckle. "Alright," I watched how she looked down and the smile off her face slowly faded as she continued. "I just haven't seen him looking at someone like that since,-" Her voice trailed off and she seemed like she kind of lost herself in her own thoughts for a second. It seemed like she unconsciously stopped herself, not because she didn't want me to hear. She played with the edges of the glass hole with her fingers and it took me a few seconds till I registered her words fulled and snapped her out of it. "Like what?" Not the right question. "Wait, since when?" I heard her exhale slightly, still in that frenzy of thoughts. "Since the war." Her voice was quiet and barely above a whisper, so I took a few steps towards the counter to hear her better. I popped my ass on the counter chair, right on the other side of her, but she still seemed a bit distracted and didn't even look up at me. "Who was he with during the war?" Once I asked that question, I realized that I might've gave myself away. But it just got interesting. It seemed like that exact question made her look up at me. There was seriousness on her face unlike before, and she seemed a bit surprised from this question, probably because she didn't follow till where it got. "I shouldn't be the one telling you this, Lana," She said, slightly shaking her head as she looked down at her glass again. My curiosity was now controlling me. And I could get obnoxious at times when that happened. "Hey, you started it." I said clearly and quite loud, making her look at me, and once again smile a bit at my little outburst. I don't see why people found it interesting when I got a bit pissed. Christian always laughed too. At that point, I knew I was the one asking questions after telling her that my secrets should stay between me and Christian. And now I was making her do exactly what I felt uncomfortable doing myself. But, I couldn't help it. And Calliope didn't seem to mind that much. It didn't take her much convincing. She started talking. "There was a girl," She stopped for a second, looking up at me. "Zaria." I found myself frowning, trying to figure out if the name rang a bell. My father was in the war. He told me all kinds of stories when I was little, but not once did he mention any Zarias. "What about her?" "She was his first love." She shook her head slightly, and her voice dialed down a bit. "It's just a true tragedy how it ended." Calliope had a soothing voice.. Clear and feminine. But I don't think words with that kind of heaviness could sound soothing in any tone. Subjects like that always caused unbelievable pressure in my chest after I heard the stories. However, now I had that starting effect with a stone dropping at the pit of my stomach. And after that, I was usually backing out because I knew enough tragedies that my family had told me over and over again, mostly to create a terrorizing picture of the vampires against our own. But this time, it was Christian. And he wasn't someone random. I wanted to know..
