Chapter 154
I wasn't around for too much longer after that.. but I'm pretty sure that Asmodeus continued to eat a lot of ice cream, not necessarily because he was always sad, but because I believe that when my dad passed away we each absorbed certain pieces of him. And I think that Asmodeus got the ice cream part. The part of my dad that found ways to make others feel better through it. He might be an asshole sometimes, but I still see it.
I, myself, got the most amazing parts of my dad. My love for sarcasm and laughing shit off is unmatched with all those around me, and it's a coping mechanism that actually makes me feel better. Who doesn't love some good humor to shed light on shit?
Oh yeah, and I also got his people skills.. which, I don't know about Jake, but I know that Asmodeus most definitely does not have.
We eventually got to the next place, and I saw that it was a little café. Asmodeus might have been a whore for ice cream, but I was a whore for coffee- so I was kind of surprised that I had never been there before.
As soon as we parked, I looked over at him and grinned. Right after he took the keys out of the ignition, I reached over and grabbed him by the front of his shirt, pulling him towards me and planting my lips on his. I could feel him smile into the kiss due to the unexpectedness of it, but he quickly brought his hand up to the side of my face and kissed me back before I pulled away.
"What was that for?" He asked, an awe-struck grin on his face, his hand still lingering on the side of my neck.
"Just felt like it," I shrugged with a smile and promptly hopped out of the jeep.
"Your hair is messed up, here lemme fix it," he said when he met me around the the car. When he got to me I looked at him expectedly, waiting for him to fix it, but instead he brought his hands up and ruffled my hair to mess it up even more. I let out a shocked giggle and shoved his hands away frantically.
"Bastard," I called him, reaching up and throwing my hair into a messy bun. He chuckled and wrapped his arm around my waist, bringing me into his side.
When we got inside, I noticed how nice and comfy the place seemed. Cafés always had such a warm vibe to them, and I loved it.
"Well look who finally decided to give me business," The girl behind the counter said over to Jessica, who's face immediately lit up with familiarity.
Uh.. who is she?
I tried not to look tense or anything as we walked over to her. She wore a bright smile on her face, as well as a comfortable stance that would suggest the two of them were more than acquainted.
"How's life treating you these days, Jen?" Jessica asked her. Jen, huh? Not just first name basis, but nick name basis. Interesting.
Was this what it felt like to be jealous?? I had never been jealous before.. like ever. Whatever it was I didn't like it very much. I plastered on my typical friendly smile when she looked over to me. She had deep brown eyes and matching dark hair pulled into a high ponytail. She seemed pretty nice.
"I'm Jen," she told me, and I responded.
"I'm Layla, Jessica's.. friend," I finished, not quite knowing what to classify us as. I didn't even need to classify us as anything.. and now I've gone and made shit awkward. Again. Ugh.
My usual firm control of myself and the situations I was in seemed to completely vanish in the presence of Jessica. I'd call him my kryptonite, but I'd never forgive myself for the cheesiness.
"Well it's nice to meet you Layla-Jessica's-friend," she gave me a genuine smile, and there was no point in trying to not like her. She was nice and that's all that matters in the end of the day.
"She'll have what I get," he told her. How often does he come here for her to know what he gets?? "You remember Asmodeus, right?" He said to her as she started making our drinks.
"Umm is he the attractive one with the dark hair?" He asked and Jessica let out a disturbed 'ugh'.
"No, but he's the average looking, anger-issues ridden fellow with the dark hair.. but close enough," he replied, and she chuckled. "This is his sister."
Why.
Why must we ALWAYS bring this up?? You know, for once it would be great to not be labeled 'Asmodeus's sister'. It really puts a damper on the mood.
"Ohhh okay I see it," she said, looking over my face. I smiled a little awkwardly. How did she know Asmodeus?? "Here are your drinks.. I'd love to stay and chat but I'm in the middle of some official business owner business," she said in a joking manner towards the end. "Have fun you two, don't get into too much trouble.
"No promises," He responded and grinned down at our coffees as he picked one up and handed it to me. I hadn't even gotten a chance to offer up my money before he'd paid with his card.
