The Unifier's Name

The Unifier's Name

Chapter Ninety-Two: The Unifier's Name

The dream came without warning.

One moment, Aiden was drifting in the darkness of sleep. The next, he was standing in an endless expanse of silver light.

The sky above him was infinite, filled with stars that pulsed like heartbeats. Beneath his feet, the ground shimmered like liquid moonlight.

He was not alone.

She appeared from the light, her form both ancient and ageless.

Her silver hair flowed like water, her eyes held the light of a thousand stars, and her presence was warm, familiar, and deeply unsettling.

The Moon Goddess.

Aiden's heart clenched with a mixture of fear and anger. "You," he said, his voice sharp. "You did this to me. You took my memories."

The Moon Goddess regarded him with gentle sorrow. "I did not take them, Moon Child. I hid them. Your mind was shattering under the weight of the Alpha Prime's transfer. If I had not intervened, you would have been lost forever."

Aiden's hands clenched into fists. "Then give them back! Give me back my life! Give me back my son!"

The Moon Goddess stepped closer, her hand reaching out to touch his cheek. Her touch was warm, soothing, like sunlight on skin.

"I cannot. The light is too bright for a mind that has been shattered. You must rebuild yourself piece by piece. If I force it, I could break you forever."

Aiden's voice cracked. "Then why show me anything at all? Why bring me here?"

The Moon Goddess smiled softly. "Because you need to know that what you feel is real. That the love you cannot remember still exists. That you were loved, Aiden. You are loved and you will love again."

She raised her hand, and a vision flickered before Aiden's eyes.

Aldrich's face. His eyes filled with love. His voice, rough with emotion, whispering, "I will love you until the stars burn out."

Aiden's breath caught. His heart ached with a longing he did not understand.

"Who was that?" he whispered. "Who was I?"

The Moon Goddess's voice faded like wind through leaves. "You were the one who saved him. And now, you must find your way back to him. Trust your heart, Moon Child. It remembers even when your mind does not."

Aiden woke with a gasp, his hand clutching his chest. His heart was pounding. Tears streamed down his face.

"Aldrich," he whispered into the darkness.

He did not know why he said the name. But it felt right. It felt like coming home.

The morning light filtered through the curtains, soft and golden. Aiden sat up in bed, his body still weak, his mind still foggy but something had shifted in him since the dream. A small crack in the wall he had built around himself.

Aldrich sat beside him, the baby asleep in a bassinet nearby. He was watching Aiden with cautious hope, his eyes soft, his voice gentle.

"Tell me about us," Aiden said suddenly. "How did we meet? How did we fall in love?"

Aldrich blinked, surprised. "You really want to know?"

Aiden looked at him, his eyes searching. "I don't remember anything. But I feel... I feel like I should. Like there's something missing."

He paused, his voice dropping. "Tell me, Aldrich. Please."

Aldrich took a breath, his heart aching with hope. He reached out and took Aiden's hand, his thumb tracing gentle circles on his skin.

"You saved me," he began. "I was broken, lost, drowning in grief. I had lost my kingdom. My wife. My child. I had nothing left but rage and sorrow. And then you walked into my life."

Aiden's brow furrowed. "I saved you?"

"You did." Aldrich smiled, a distant look in his eyes. "You were stubborn. Brave. Beautiful. You refused to let me drown. You made me believe in love again. You made me believe in hope. You showed me that I could still be happy. That I could still be loved."

Aiden was silent for a long moment, his eyes fixed on Aldrich's face. "I don't remember any of that. But I feel like... I feel like I should. Like my body remembers even if my mind doesn't."

Aldrich squeezed his hand gently. "That's enough, Aiden. That's more than enough. We'll take this one step at a time. I'm not going anywhere."

Aiden looked at their intertwined hands. Something in his chest stirred….a flicker of warmth, of recognition.

"Keep talking," he said quietly. "Tell me more. Tell me about the first time you knew you loved me."

Aldrich's eyes glistened with unshed tears. He smiled, a soft, broken smile. "The first time I knew? It was the night you yelled at me for being an idiot. You told me I was running from my own happiness, and that I needed to stop being afraid. No one had ever spoken to me like that before. No one had ever cared enough to call me out on my own stupidity."

Aiden almost smiled. "I yelled at you?"

"You did. You were fierce. Furious. Beautiful. I fell in love with you right there." Aldrich laughed softly. "I didn't even realize it at first. I thought I was just grateful. But then I found myself looking for you everywhere. I couldn't stop thinking about you and I realized I wasn't just grateful. I was in love."

Aiden stared at him, his heart aching. "That sounds like something I would do."

Aldrich's eyes widened. "You remember?"

Aiden shook his head slowly. "No. But it feels right. It feels like me."

He paused, his voice dropping to a whisper. "I want to remember, Aldrich. I want to remember everything. I want to remember us. You seem very much like a good person that I would have fallen in love with”

Aldrich brought Aiden's hand to his lips, pressing a gentle kiss to his knuckles. "You will, Aiden. I promise. I will remind you every single day until you do."

The medical wing of the mansion was quiet, filled with the hum of machines and the soft glow of screens.

Elliot stood over the examination table, his brow furrowed, his hands moving across a holographic display.

Merrick hovered nearby, his arms crossed, his eyes fixed on the baby. "Well? What's the verdict, genius? Is he healthy?"

Elliot didn't look up. "He's more than healthy, Merrick. He's... extraordinary."

Merrick raised an eyebrow. "Extraordinary how?"

Elliot turned to face him, his expression a mixture of awe and disbelief. "His energy signature is off the charts. I've never seen anything like it. He's not just powerful, Merrick. He's an Enigma."

Merrick's face went pale. "An Enigma? I thought those were myths. Stories told to scare pups."

"So did I." Elliot shook his head. "But here he is. The Unifier. The most powerful being in existence. His potential is limitless."

The door opened, and Fiona walked in, her eyes immediately finding the baby. "What did I miss?"

Grants stepped in behind her, his arms crossed. "Elliot was just telling us the baby is an Enigma."

Fiona's eyes widened. "An Enigma? I thought that was just a myth." She stepped closer, looking down at the tiny, sleeping face.

"No wonder the underworld and the mystical world are shaking. The Unifier is real, and he's more powerful than anyone imagined."

Merrick looked at the baby, his expression softening. "I can't believe I'm an uncle to the most powerful being in existence."

He chuckled, shaking his head. "My nephew is an Enigma. Wait until Prince hears about this."

Grants smirked. "He's going to be insufferable. He'll probably start calling himself 'Uncle of the Unifier.' which you are not cause I am actually”

Merrick grinned. "I only am the true uncle and I'll be right there with him."

Elliot looked at the baby, his voice thoughtful. "We need to be careful. His power is still developing. It could manifest in unpredictable ways. We need to monitor him closely."

Fiona nodded, her expression serious. "We will. He's not just a baby. He's the future of everything."

The main hall was crowded with the pack, their faces pale with worry. Nalani stood at the center, her ancient eyes sweeping over them all.

Aiden sat in a chair, the baby in his arms, looking pale and uncomfortable.

Gabriella sat beside him, her hand resting gently on Aiden's shoulder.

Her eyes were fixed on the baby, her heart overflowing with a grandmother's love.

Nalani's voice was calm, but there was an edge of urgency beneath it. "The child must be named. An Enigma without a name is like a star without light. He is vulnerable. The dark forces will sense him and try to claim him."

Aldrich stepped forward, his jaw tight. "We haven't had time to even think about names. Aiden is still recovering. We've been focused on keeping him alive."

Nalani's eyes softened, but her voice remained firm. "Time is running out, Alpha. The underworld is already stirring. The Unifier is their greatest threat. They will not hesitate to strike. The naming ceremony will bind him to his identity and shield him from those who would use him."

All eyes turned to Aiden. He felt the weight of their gazes, the weight of the responsibility.

Aiden looked down at the baby in his arms. "I don't even know him," he admitted. "How can I name him?"

Nalani stepped closer, her voice gentle. "Your heart knows him, Moon Child. Even if your mind does not. Listen to what your soul whispers. The name will come."

Aiden shook his head, frustration bleeding into his voice. "I don't hear anything. I feel nothing. How am I supposed to name a child I don't even remember carrying?"

Gabriella squeezed his shoulder, her voice warm and steady. "Aiden, my son, I know this is hard. I know you feel lost. But that baby is your child. He is part of you. You named him before you even knew him. I remember the day you told me you were pregnant. You sat right here, in this hall, and you said, 'Mom, I already know what I'm going to name my child. It's going to be something strong. Something that means hope.'"

Aiden looked at her, his eyes searching her face. "I said that?"

"You did." Gabriella smiled, tears glistening in her eyes. "You were so excited, Aiden. You talked about it for weeks. You said your child would be the light of this family. The hope of this world. You said you would name them something that reflected that."

Aiden's throat tightened. He looked down at the baby, his mind racing. "Something that means hope," he repeated softly.

Nalani nodded slowly. "The name is within you, Moon Child. Trust yourself. Trust your heart."

Aiden closed his eyes, holding the baby close. The room fell silent, waiting.

After a long moment, Aiden opened his eyes. "I don't have it yet. But I know it's coming. I can feel it."

Nalani smiled…a rare, gentle smile. "That is enough. The name will come when it is ready. And when it does, the Unifier will be protected."

Aldrich moved to Aiden's side, his hand resting on Aiden's shoulder. "We'll wait as long as it takes."

Gabriella leaned over, kissing Aiden's forehead. "I love you, my son. And I love my grandchild. No matter what happens, you are not alone in this."

The car ride was quiet but comfortable. Aiden sat in the passenger seat, the baby strapped into a carrier beside him, his eyes fixed on the passing scenery.

The world outside was so ordinary. So normal. He wanted to feel normal.

Aldrich glanced at him, his voice gentle. "I used to bring you here. Before everything. You said it was your favorite place to think."

Aiden looked at him, his brow furrowed. "This park?"

Aldrich nodded, pulling into a quiet parking spot. "It's private. Secluded. No one bothers us here. You loved the garden, the little pond, the bench by the oak tree. You said it was the only place you felt truly at peace."

Aiden stared at the park, his mind grasping for something that wasn't there. "I don't remember."

Aldrich smiled softly. "That's okay. You don't have to remember. We're here now. That's what matters."

They walked together, Aldrich pushing a stroller while Aiden walked beside him, the baby strapped to his chest. The path was lined with flowers, the air sweet with their scent.

Aldrich spoke softly, pointing out the different flowers. "You used to tell me the names of all of them. I could never remember them. You'd laugh at me and say I had a mind like a sieve."

Aiden stopped at a patch of blue flowers. "Forget-me-nots," he said quietly.

Aldrich's heart stopped. "What did you say?"

Aiden looked up, confusion in his eyes. "I don't know. I just... the name came to me." He touched the petals gently. "Forget-me-nots. They're so small, but so beautiful."

Aldrich's voice was thick with emotion. "They were your favorite. You said they reminded you of me. That even when you forgot everything else, you would never forget me."

Aiden looked at him, his eyes searching. "That sounds like something I would say."

Aldrich laughed softly, wiping at his eyes. "It was. You said a lot of things. And I remember every single one."

They reached a quiet bench near the pond, the oak tree casting a long shadow over them. Aldrich sat beside Aiden, the stroller parked nearby.

"I'll be right back," Aldrich said, standing. "There's a little cart not far from here. They make a drink you used to love. I'll get you one."

Aiden nodded, the baby strapped to his chest. "I'll be fine. I'll sit here and watch the water."

Aldrich hesitated, looking at Aiden. "Are you sure?"

Aiden smiled…a small, fragile smile. "I'm sure."

Aldrich nodded, his eyes lingering for a moment longer. "I'll be back in five minutes."

He walked toward the cart, keeping Aiden in sight.

Aiden looked down at the baby, his heart aching with a love he didn't understand. "You look like me," he murmured. "Your eyes. The shape of your face. You look like me."

A voice came from beside him, smooth and familiar. "Undoubtedly. He does. What a beautiful baby you have there."

Aiden looked up, smiling. His eyes met the face of the man standing beside him.

And then it hit him.

A flashback…a split second of recognition. Centuries of memory slamming into his skull like a wave.

The face of the man before him, etched into his mind from a time he could not remember. From a past that was not his own.

The man smiled, but his eyes were cold. Ancient. Calculating.

Aiden's breath caught. His hands trembled. He knew this face. He knew it like he knew his own reflection.

"Aiden!"

Aldrich's voice cut through the haze. Aiden blinked, looking toward the sound. Aldrich was running toward him, his face pale, his eyes sharp.

Aiden looked back to the bench.

The man was gone.

Aiden stared at the empty space, his heart pounding, his hands shaking. "He was right there. He was just here. He was…”

Aldrich reached him, his hands on Aiden's shoulders. "Who? Who was here?"

Aiden looked at him, his eyes wild. "I don't know. I don't know his name. But I know his face. I've seen his face before.“

Aldrich's expression went pale. "What do you mean? Aiden, what did you see?"

Aiden shook his head, tears streaming down his face. "I don't know. I don't remember. But I know him. I know him, Aldrich I'm scared."

Aldrich pulled him close, holding him tightly. "I've got you. You're safe. I've got you."

Aiden clutched the baby closer, his heart pounding. The man's face was burned into his mind. His voice was still echoing in his ears.

"Undoubtedly. He does."

Who was he? And why did Aiden feel like he had known him but not from this time?
