Chapter 89 Chapter Eighty-Nine

Chapter 89 Chapter Eighty-Nine
Chapter Eighty-Nine

                 Zeke

I punched the wall furiously, leaving a large dent.

“Calm down, Zeke.” Kai said and I ignored him.

“Have you sensed her yet?” I heard Queen Belinda asked someone. Probably Natasha.

“No, Mother. It's as if she vanished. I can't sense her in Vermont. Or the Dark realm.” Her voice cracked as she spoke.

“I'm going to fucking kill Tyler if he dares to harm her.” I spat. I was beyond angry. Mirah's hurtful words had stabbed me right where it hurt the most, leaving me numb and unable to stop her when she was about to leave.

“I don't think Tyler took her. He isn't powerful enough to mask someone's presence.” Qyle observed.

“So who's it then?” I asked.

“We don't know. And that's why we have to tread with caution.” My uncle said grimly.

I massaged my temple. All had been well all day. I'd watched from the window, as Natasha trained with Mirah. And I admired her determination.

I could still remember how proud I'd been when she finally created a portal. And how afraid I'd been when she left. I went to Natasha who assured me that she'd be back soon. Only for all these to happen. Everything happened so fast, that it seemed like a blur.

”Can't you see into the future, Queen B?” I asked with faint hope.

She shook her head. “For matters concerning the Destined, there are only a few things I can predict. Or see.” She said grimly.

And she hadn't seen this coming. Right. I ran my hands through my hair. “I have to get her back.”

“She's unlikely to be in Vermont. Maybe she isn't even in the Dark realm at all.” Xavier said.

I didn't glower at him like I'd have loved to do. Because the situation was far more serious than that. I was about to speak, when Gwev excused himself.

“Why don't we ask the other kingdoms for help? We can't take down Tyler alone. And I suspect Mirah has fallen into his trap.” Natasha said.

I winced, realizing how right she was.

“Guys, there's bad news.” Gwev came back, looking worried.

“What's it?” I asked, having a guess of what he was about to say.

“Tyler has sent notice to four kingdoms, and has pulled them over as his allies. According to what I've just been told, he made them believe that we've taken the Source. And we're planning to destroy the Dark realm with it.” He finished off.

“That motherfucker,” I hissed.

My uncle didn't look so surprised. “I should've seen it coming. It looks like something he'd do, I just didn't think about it.”

“Each time we think we're making progress, we fall ten steps back again.” I exhaled, clutching the edge of the table hard.

“What now, Zeke?” Qyle asked.

I held his gaze. “He has bitten more than he can swallow. Why don't we give him a taste of his own medicine?” He wanted us to react. To make the slightest mistake so he'd jump on it and destroy everything. He may be powerful, but even the most powerful of all, can be destroyed.

“Let's get Mirah back. She's the Controller. We can't let anything happen to her.” I said.

                   Mirah

Days probably passed faster here. But I had no way of knowing. The last few days, maybe weeks, had been torturous. And painful.

I heard footsteps approaching, and raised my head as much as my bounded position could allow. My arms felt numb from being tied to the back. And my body burned from the heat emanating from the fire beneath.

“Your face has lost color, Human. Finally caving in?” Tyler asked, as he stood on the ground safe from the fire. I didn't reply, having realized that my response only made him gloat. I pursed my lips and kept my head bowed.

“It’s quite a pity you're a human, Mirabella. You'd have been a perfect fit for the Vampire royal family. But since you aren't, let's get back to the issue we have on ground. Surrender your power as the Controller.” Towards the end of his words, his voice dropped low.

“I’ve told you already. I'm not the Controller.” I said, which was partly true.

I wasn't the Controller yet, and I couldn't handle its powers. If I could, I wouldn't be tied up on a flat land surrounded by burning lethal fire. Nor would I let him interrogate me in any other manner.

“I’m not a fool, Human. Just do what I wish, and we'd be over this conversation. A win-win.” He clapped his hands gently, his eyes trained on me.

I didn't say a word. The heat was so much. I wondered how I could remain conscious in the face of it.

“I can see Zeke is beginning to rub off on you. I like it, I'm going to break you, Human. Let's start, shall we?” He laughed, making a sense of dread envelop me.

I hated him for making me pass through pain.

But I hated myself more. I should've listened to Zeke. I was wrong after all.

“Allow me access to your powers,” His voice was calm, making me feel dizzy. The force was familiar.

It was the same way I'd felt when King Elliott had ordered me to leave Weasels the first time. Just that this was more stronger.

More lethal.

I exhaled slowly, feeling a hollow in my chest.

But I forced my head back up, and glared at him.

“You’d get nothing from this, you monster.” I spat dryly.

“Oh, you're mistaken, Mirabella. I stand to gain everything. All the power in the Dark realm would finally belong to me.” He spread out his arms, a triumphant look on his face.

My hair was damp with sweat. I was thirsty too, which I blamed on the little hellfire I was in.

“You can't own all the power,” I argued weakly.

“I can. And I will. Now, stop trying to distract me, because that wouldn't work.” He said and I felt the poking force in my chest again.

It clutched hard, making me pant and breathe forcefully. Then it stabbed at my stomach making me yell loudly.
