Chapter Seventy-Eight

               Mirah

She turned towards me, and smiled. “It’s good that you're fine.”

“I see that you're confident because of your ability to meddle with time. It won't work this time, Belinda.” King Tyler said, shifting my focus. A loud rumble suddenly sounded, and my body shook visibly.

“What was that?” I couldn't help but ask.

Queen Belinda's brave front finally cracked.

“Duck!” She yelled.

I stood frozen in place until someone dragged me to the ground. I raised my head as much as the turbulence could allow, and saw everyone except King Tyler on the ground.

I suddenly tensed, my heart beating fast. And it wasn't from fear. No, it was from something else.

Something stronger.

Something ancient.

I heard Zeke groan, and turned abruptly to look at him. His brows were knitted together in pain. The others weren't any better.

“What’s that?” Kai whispered, his voice cracking.

For once, he wasn't arguing with Natasha. Great.

I've known both of them enough to deduce that they hated each other.

A jolt in my chest, made every other thought vanish. It was like something was tugging at the power inside me. I winced, grabbing my dress and clutching hard. The rumble continued.

“You can't fight me. I own the Source!” King Tyler laughed triumphantly.

“You can never own the Source.” Zeke growled behind me.

“I don't?” King Tyler questioned sarcastically, as a large spherical glowing ball of power appeared before him. It shone so bright, and the longer I stared at it, the more I felt a warm feeling in my chest.

No.

Not my chest.

But my newfound powers.

I felt like the ball was stroking my powers, making me feel warm.

I fought the urge to close my eyes.

“The S-Source?” Zeke whispered, the disbelief in his voice apparent.

The anger.

The pain.

“I am the Source Controller.” King Tyler's triumphant laugh echoed again.

I struggled to breathe, as the realization of his words sank in. That explained why I felt like something was pulling at the power inside me.

“A position which you forcefully took from its rightful owner,” A voice said, and I jerked my head towards the direction.

I blanched when I saw Zeke's uncle and his cohorts emerge from a black portal.

“Interesting.” Qyle snickered.

I met Kaleb's gaze, and a smirk tugged at his lips. I growled in response.

Once this was over, I was going to kill both of them for making me hate Zeke. A slow death was what they deserved.

And I was going to give it to them.

“Y-you-” Zeke's father; King Elliott croaked, his face turning pale.

“Hello Brother.” Zeke's uncle said without emotion.

“You’re dead…” King Elliott's words trailed off, his fear palpable.

“Aw, such a pity I'm alive then. This wasn't the beautiful reunion I was expecting, but we can make do with this.” His brother retorted.

“Enough!” King Tyler commanded. And then to Zeke's uncle, “I had high hopes for you,” his eyes flashed with an unreadable emotion.

“But you got swayed by a human girl. Your foolish decision led to her death.” King Tyler said.

“More like you killed her for your selfish desires.” Xavier argued, his brown eyes burning bright.

“Easy Rogue-brid, I could kill you.” King Tyler scoffed.

“Kill? You can't. You and I know that well. Wasn't it because of your fear that we were growing stronger, that you banished our kind from the Dark realm?” Wind blew through his white hair, ruffling it.

“Stop tarnishing my image, Rogue-brid.” King Tyler warned.

“Your image is already tarnished, Tyler. Look around you. Can't you see that everyone wants to destroy you too?” Xavier asked, referring to us.

“They’re all ignorant. And they'd pay for it. It's time you stopped talking.” King Tyler rasped.

Xavier boldly stepped forward, brandishing a sword. “I’m going to take back the Source which you stole. And then I'd kill you.” He promised.

King Tyler wasn't fazed, instead he turned to the other Xavier; Zeke's uncle.

“Have you grown so weak that you now obey the orders of a Rogue-brid?” He sneered.

Zeke's uncle didn't respond.

“I’ve had enough of the party. Why don't you all say your last words before I begin ending your existences?” King Tyler asked evilly, his eyes roaming over each of us.

I shuddered at the viciousness of his words.

“And now,” he pulled at the glowing ball.

I felt an excruciating pain in my heart, the same time Zeke growled in pain. I forced myself to look at him, and saw his claws coming out.

He flashed his fangs at his King Tyler.

“I'm going to end you all once and for all.” King Tyler sneered.

With each word, the dizziness I felt increased.

I suddenly felt light, like I was floating in the air.

“Mirah!” I heard Natasha scream.

Maybe I was actually floating. I couldn't feel my legs. I was now drawing close to the glowing ball. My world was spinning.

Fuck, I wanted to retch.

Pain.

Too hot.

Need to get away.

Close.

Closer.

I was now a few inches away from the glowing ball.

I screamed, all the hairs on my body rising on end. The pain was so great for me to bear.

“Like the other human who foolishly fell in love with a Vampire royal, you're going to pay with your life. Your blood will be fed to the Source.” I heard King Tyler's voice say above my pain.

He was mad.

Evil.

He was the very definition of heartless.

And King Elliott? He was just a puppet.

Wasn't he the king? Why was he allowing this maniac to call the shots?

Right.

He was powerless. Didn't King Tyler say something about killing a human?

Wait-

A human.

Could it be-

No, no. That wasn't possible.

The human couldn't be Zeke's mother.

No way.

“Stop this madness, Tyler! The Source isn't evil. It doesn't accept blood.” Queen Belinda yelled.

“Well, it didn't reject when I forced it the first time.” King Tyler laughed evilly.

Closer.

I felt a slash on my wrist, tearing a loud yell from my throat. “No!” I screamed, trying to get away.

To pull back. More especially, to pierce a hole through this man's heart.
