Chapter 58 Chapter Fifty-Eight
Chapter Fifty-Eight

              Zeke

“Natasha, take us to Gavemorth now.” Qyle said, panic showing in his eyes. She nodded and made a portal.

“You'd better not let anything happen to you. You have to witness how I'd beat you in our chess games.” Qyle said, his cracked voice betraying how anxious he was.

I forced a smile. “I'll be fine.”

I barely got the last words out, before a death-inducing pain engulfed me. I felt my consciousness slipping away.

“Zeke!” Both of them yelled simultaneously, as I lost consciousness.

…

I was trapped in a dark tunnel. A place that awakened the pain I'd stowed away, and thought I'd buried.

I was perhaps having a nightmare.

Someone moved behind me, and I turned, observing my surroundings. This place was very dark. Gargoyles stood at every corner, looking menacing.

“Kiel,” A soft voice called out, and I froze.

That name.

There was only one person who addressed me like that. I watched as the figure came closer.

I could see her clearly now.

“Mother?” I called out.

She smiled at me. “You look healthy, Kiel. There's something you should know.” She paused and looked around.

“Trust no one, Son. No one. Everybody isn't as they seem.”

I was confused. I wanted to respond, when her face suddenly warped. It was no longer my mother, but Mirah.

My heart swirled with emotions as I tried to reach out to her. She backed away, and my hand froze midway.

I looked closely at her. It was more menacing than that of the gargoyles.

“Kitten,” I called out in a hurt voice.

“I bet you're happy that I'm no longer with you. You can marry the love of your life now.” Her voice was so icy, without any hint of the Mirah I knew.

“That's not true. Mirah, I love you.” I said desperately.

“Lies. Prove it. Trace the ring you gave to me, and come to Zandaya.”

Then, she vanished.

I woke up with a gasp. My body felt frail, as I looked around the white room.

Natasha's mother was holding my hand, eyes closed and muttering something beneath her breath. She didn't open her eyes.

“You're back.”

I pulled my hand away. “Where are the others?”

“Right here,” Qyle walked in, and I thought I saw a brief look of relief in his eyes, before he reverted to his usual cold self. Natasha tailed him.

Thankfully, I didn't wobble when I stood on my feet. “Get ready, we're going to Zandaya.”

“What?” His eyes widened.

My eyes glinted coldly. “That's where Mirah is.”

“Zeke-”

“Well, you don't have to come with me.” I wasn't changing my mind.

He took a deep breath. “We'll come with you.”

                Mirah

I was tied up on a chair when I came to.  My legs couldn't feel the ground, and out of instincts I tried springing up.

“Help,” I called out weakly.

“Finally,”  A voice said, and I turned my attention towards its direction. A tall man walked into the expansive room, and on seeing who it was, my blood boiled over in anger.

“You.” I hissed.

“Yes, me. I've been waiting for you to wake up.” He smiled, and went over to sit on the bed. It was then I realized that I was actually floating in the air.

“What have you done?” A strange pain tugged at my heart.

“I casted a spell on you, Princess. I'm using you as a point of contact to your little vampire boyfriend. Poor guy would be lured here soon.” His nonchalant attitude gave off the vibe that he was just talking about the weather, and relaxation.

Like he wasn't talking about the danger he'd plunged Zeke into.

I took a deep breath. “Can you tell me what you are?” I asked, lowering my voice.

“I'm a rogue-brid. Now that you're here, I have to introduce you to the others.” He rose to his feet, and I narrowed my eyes.

“Don't you dare come close to me, until you're done explaining what this is all about. The spell you casted on me, was it responsible for the way my body reacted to you?”

I was going crazy.

To my surprise, the bastard laughed at my words.

“I'm going to enjoy playing with you, Princess.” He snickered, once he was done laughing.

“I don't even like you. You illegally abducted me.” I rasped.

“It was the only way. I've manipulated Zeke's dream through you Princess. He's on his way to Zandaya.”

My heart froze. “Where's Zandaya?”

“The place where I'd kill him, and the others. The bastard is the one stopping my plans. And with you by his side, he'd only get stronger. I didn't originally plan to take you away. But you are so beautiful, and can only belong to me.”

“Stop saying nonsense!” I was really going crazy.

He shook his hair, his brown eyes gleaming. He twirled his index finger, and I felt a sharp pang of pain in my chest.

“W-what-” Sweat broke out on my forehead, as the pain spread to my limbs. He snapped his fingers, and the chair began lowering to the ground. He walked over.

“Don't ever disrespect me, don't. I have limited patience, and I'm good at getting my way.” He lowered his head.

“If you ever disrespect me, get ready to bid your life goodbye.” From the look on his face, I could tell he wasn't joking.

“I-I'm sorry,” I gritted out. I hated him, and I was going to make him regret it.

He backed away with a cynical smile. “Good.”

I breathed in relief. Until I could figure out how to escape from here, I needed to be careful, so as not to provoke him.

“You said something about manipulating Zeke's dreams-”

He interrupted me midway. “You are so curious. That ring on your finger has been enchanted, as you know. You saw me do it, didn't you?” He snorted.

“I can easily end his life using the ring, but that'd be too boring.” He snapped his fingers.

I was puzzled.

“What do you mean?”

“What I mean is,” he moved towards the door.

“Zeke's life is now in my hands. He can't self-heal, or act as a vampire anymore. A gargoyle would deliver your meal. Make sure you eat. You'd need some strength.”

Then he left the room, leaving me with a shattered heart.

“Zeke,” I whimpered.
