Mirah

“I'm Mirabella Aurel.”

He nodded, and patted on the throne's armrest.
My stomach churned, and my legs felt wobbly. Toasted bread and eggs which I had for breakfast threatened to spill out. And I knew I was moments away from losing consciousness.
It wasn't everyday one got to meet a vampire king and queen. Especially after having the best orgasm of one's life the previous night.

“Since you're here, I believe you know our identity.” More of a statement than a question, I suddenly ran out of words.

“Mirabella Aurel,” His voice bounced off the walls, and made cold sweat run down my back. My eyes were everywhere. Everywhere but his face.

He continued. “The vampire kingdom isn't a place meant for humans. I don't know what Zeke told you, but this place is dangerous for you.”

Isn't a place meant for humans.

No translation was needed. He was clearly telling me to leave.

But at the thought of leaving Zeke, my heart constricted. Air left my lungs, and I found it hard to breathe.

“I don't know you, but I can tell you're smart. Following the rules of this kingdom, you'd have been dead, but…”

I tuned out the rest of his words, as blood rushed to my ears. I couldn't leave. I couldn't just leave.

I was sure there was something brewing between me and Zeke. I couldn't leave it all behind, and run back into the waiting arms of my father who was ready to kill me for going against his orders.

When I broke out of my reverie, King Elliott was looking at me with an unreadable expression.

Fuck it, I was really going to retch.

“So, what do you choose?” He asked.

I didn't know which would be worse- asking him to repeat his words, or pretending I heard what he said and it turns out to be wrong.

A bloodied image of me on the cold floor with my blood being drained off by this man, flashed through my mind.

I made a quick decision. “Pardon?”

He didn't flare up like I thought he would. “I can let you leave peacefully, or you could choose the next option.”

My mouth went dry. “And what's the…next option?” I didn't recognize the voice as mine.

He rose to his feet slowly and walked towards me. As our eyes met, I noticed the silent fury dancing in his eyes. A word would be all it'd take to unleash it.

I gasped, when his finger tilted my jaw upwards. In my moment of haze, I hadn't noticed that he was now at my front.

His touch sent the alarm bells in my head ringing. Through the corner of my eyes, I saw Zeke's mother smile amusedly.

“Are you aware of the fact that you're endangering Zeke? Your presence here is causing more harm than good.” He added more force, where his finger was.

My chest heaved, and I shook my head.

Don't say it Mirah. Don't-

“And why should you butt into his business?” I rasped.

Okay great, the words were out.

His nose flared, and his eyes turned a bright red. Instincts kicked in, and I moved away quickly. It was almost useless, because he was in front of me within seconds.

“You'll do as I say.” He said in a low, threatening voice.

“I don't want to.” Unfortunately for me, my brain wasn't working hand-in-hand with my mouth that morning.

Of all ways I planned to die, being strangled by a thousand year old vampire wasn't one of them.

He was silent for a moment, and when he spoke again, my head felt heavy. It felt like his voice was laced with something. Something that'd make me obey his orders.

I fought against whatever force it was. It brought me down to my knees, and I held my head in pain.

“Make it stop-” I whispered in a breathy gasp.

My eyes clouded as his voice grew faint. And faint.

“Will you leave Zeke or not?” He asked again.

‘Fucking say yes, Mirah.’ The answer was at the tip of my tongue, but my mouth wasn't cooperating.

“And when have I needed you to make my decisions for me, Father?” A voice intercepted at that moment.

I'd never felt so relieved. King Elliott retracted whatever it was he'd been doing to me, and I pushed off the floor.

Although my legs shook and I could barely hold my weight, I forced myself to turn and face the incoming figure.

There he was, in his signature black outfit, looking sinfully handsome as always. I wanted to run over to him. Move away from his father. But my feet stubbornly remained rooted to the ground.

He was beside us within seconds. His arms encircled my waist protectively, and I suddenly forgot how to breathe.

The air thickened with something heavy, something I couldn't describe. It was moments before his father spoke again.

“What do you think you're doing, Ezekiel?” His father's voice dripped with contempt, and I leaned further into Zeke's embrace.

I wasn't as scared as before. Zeke's presence was all the solace I needed.

“Don't you think that's my line, Father?”

I couldn't help sneaking a look at him through the corner of my eyes. And my heart skipped a beat. He tightened his hold, and my skin warmed.

He was standing up to his father. For me.

Anger swirled in King Elliott's eyes, just as his mother came over. Hard as I looked, I didn't spot a single resemblance between Zeke and his mother.

“Calm down, sweetheart. I'm sure Zeke knows what he's doing, don't he?” Mirth danced in her eyes, as she placed a hand on King Elliott's shoulders.

I felt Zeke go still. “Your words aren't solicited in this conversation, Wendy.” Emotionless, and piercing. Almost like he wasn't talking to his mother.

“You'd speak to your mother with respect, Ezekiel!” His father rasped, his mouth taking an unusual shape.
The tension thickened, and so did the sweat running down my back.
