Chapter 106: Skipping Class
"It's really rare, a good student like you actually skipping class." Nina propped her face up with her hand, looking at Elara in front of her.
"Aren't you skipping class too?" Elara lay on the desk, grumbling half-heartedly. She didn't want to go back to the academy to face those Priests, so she hid in this library she often came to, only to run into an old acquaintance.
"You know, I hate physical education the most. Anyway, I'm just going to be in charge of logistics in the future, the teachers don't care about me." Nina shrugged her shoulders. Since Elara transferred to Priest Academy, this was the first time the two friends had met.
"What about you, I heard that you're going to challenge the Chief Witch? You've become so brave in such a short time?"
"You know about that?" At the mention of the match, Elara started to get a headache. She had forgotten about it.
"The whole academy knows about it." Nina was very well-informed about all sorts of gossip. "Everyone is talking about how Noyce the Great Priest's new Familiar, the successor to 'Siren' Dilia, is going to challenge 'Golden Rose' Alicia. And they say this battle will decide the new owner of the Chief Witch title."
Elara covered her head dejectedly: "What challenge, it's just going to be a one-sided beating." Now that it had spread, she was going to be even more embarrassed.
"That bad? It's a beating from the Chief Witch." Nina looked sympathetic. She had heard of that violent maniac's reputation. "I thought you transferred to Priest Academy to learn some secret weapon."
"I'm never going back to Priest Academy again." Elara said listlessly. Everything there made her feel sick. "Anyway, Noyce can't control me now."
She lay back on the table in despair. The dark rings that had been so restrictive were removed by Noyce, leaving only two delicate silver nipple rings on her chest. If you didn't touch them on purpose, you wouldn't really notice them.
All the things that had been stuffed into her orifices were taken out, giving her a rare feeling of being a normal person again.
The freedom of her body also began to liberate her spirit. Suddenly, she felt fearless and decisively skipped class, getting away from that place she hated.
"What about the match with the Chief Witch?" Nina asked.
"Just let it happen. It's just going to be a terrible beating. Can Alicia kill me?" Elara completely took on a resigned attitude.
Nina couldn't help but give her a thumbs-up, looking admiringly: "You've learned to look at life and death lightly, and to treat the two most ferocious demons of the Xis Church as nothing. Elara, you've really grown."
"Demons..." Elara thought of Alicia's pale and haggard face when she was unconscious on the way back. She couldn't associate that with the word "demon" at all.
She said they would start the match after she recovered, but they had been back from Ros for over a month. Logically, with a Witch's physique, no matter how severe the injury, it should have healed completely, but she still hadn't seen Alicia reappear. She had a vague feeling of unease, not knowing what had happened to Alicia.
Elara had a somewhat melancholic expression. If she hadn't been so weak and needed protection, Alicia wouldn't have had to act separately from Joshua. With Joshua around, she wouldn't have been so badly injured.
She didn't want to go back to Priest Academy, but she also didn't want to continue being a burden to others.
Elara sighed deeply and stood up: "I'm going to find some books on spells." Although she didn't plan to go to class, she couldn't keep being so depressed. This was the library, full of useful materials. She could still study on her own.
The library room they had long used as a base was a small side room, filled with obscure and difficult-to-understand rare ancient books. It was rarely visited by anyone.
Most of the books that people needed were kept in the central library hall. The tall and majestic bookshelves stood like a forest. The reading area, which could accommodate hundreds of people at the same time, was decorated in a luxurious and magnificent style. The library looked almost as good as the royal villas where the nobles lived.
It was class time now, and almost no one would come here. The spacious library hall was empty. Elara climbed up a wooden ladder by the bookshelf, scanning the titles of the books on the upper shelves.
During this period, Elara had systematically learned some basic knowledge at the academy and had a general idea of which books would be useful to her. As she was looking for them, unexpectedly, voices came from outside the main door.
"What's the point of this kind of class? Who will use those things in real combat? It's a waste of time." Rowell walked towards the library with a look of disdain.
The yellow-haired Priest followed him hesitantly: "Is it really okay to do this? Things have been tight recently because of Ros. If we sneak out of the church and get caught, we will be punished."
"Do as you please. I can't stand it anymore." Rowell, with his spiky hair, glanced at him disdainfully. "Ros was destroyed because they were too useless. Why should we be restricted? How can we compare Xis with a country church like Ros?"
He grabbed Clive with one hand and pushed open the library door: "Alright, I've hidden some casual clothes in the library. We'll change and sneak out. No one will find out. It's a busy time now. Let's go to the city of Xis to find some..."
Before he finished his sentence, he froze. His eyes met with Elara's, who had just climbed down from the ladder and hadn't had time to find a place to hide.
"Fun." A meaningful smile curled up at the corner of Rowell's mouth. It seemed they didn't need to sneak out anymore.
The moment Elara saw them, she didn't hesitate for a second and turned around and ran.
Rowell also moved in the blink of an eye. He was extremely fast, darting past the Witch like lightning and blocking her way, reaching out to grab her.
This time Elara was prepared. She had fought with Rowell before and knew the gap in strength between them. She was no match in close combat.
Turning around and running was just a feint. She took advantage of Rowell's unstable footing, leaped backward to dodge his attack, grabbed the wooden ladder beside her and kicked off it to flip up to the top of the tall bookshelf, creating distance. Her fingertips glowed with golden light, and a longbow was already in her hand.
Rowell didn't expect that the Witch, without the control of drugs, had a much faster reaction speed than before. His attack missed, and he was about to chase after her. Elara, looking down from above, drew the longbow into a full moon, and three golden light arrows appeared between the bowstrings.
She released her fingers, and the arrows with tracking arrays drew three dazzling golden arcs, attacking the pursuing Priest from different directions at the same time.
After the arrows were shot, Elara didn't stop for a moment. Without even looking to see if they had hit, she turned around and leaped down from the tall bookshelf. She did a vertical somersault in the air, using the force of the spin and descent to kick the still unresponsive Clive in the face with one foot.
With the sound of the light arrows colliding and exploding behind her, the blond Priest was kicked to the ground with blood flying from his nose.
Elara landed smoothly, kicked off the ground, and sprinted towards the library's main door.
