Chapter 10 — Midnight phone calls

Bree:

“Oh my gosh, this is so good. “I slur while taking another sip of the deliciously sweet cocktail in front of me. The other girls give me an equally drunk look as they clink their glasses together.

When Nevaeh and I ran into each other at school earlier in the evening, I didn’t expect that I’d end up getting drunk with her and her friends at the really hot club, Garden of Eden.

It’s Friday night, and the place is packed. Thankfully, Nevaeh and I are very good friends with Azazel, so getting a private room wasn’t a problem. Yeah, I get friend status since Azazel is in love with my bestie, Zoe. He will do anything to make her happy.

His club is gorgeous with its beautiful natural trees, fairy lights, and gleaming tables.

The private room that we’re sitting in is charming. There are two velvet couches facing each other and a gleaming glass table laden with drinks in the middle. The dark wooden floors are a stark contrast to the creamy satin curtains covering the walls.

Amara and Jules lean on each other while Haley slurps down her drink.

Nevaeh leans close and drunkenly mutters. “Isn’t it so cool how Azazel lets us have all the free drinks we want? Poor guy is missing Zoe like crazy. That’s why we sent our guys to keep him company and decided to do a girls’ night out.”

I nod. “Yeah, Zoe has been calling me nonstop, moping about how much she misses him. Those two are disgustingly in love. I’m so jealous.” I mumble sulkily.

Nevaeh frowns. “Have you ever been in love?”

I shake my head. “Not really. I’ve been too busy with school and taking care of my sister.”

Even drunk, I know not to tell anyone about the prophecy that states that I might give birth to a child who will one day end the world. The mere thought of that stupid prophecy depresses me to no end.

She wraps her arm around me as she drinks down her fourth margarita. “Hasn’t there been anyone who has caught your eye?”

I shrug. “There is someone, but I don’t think he’s interested.”

The others stop their conversations and gape.

“Are you serious?” Amara asks.

“Yeah, you’re like super hot. If I was into girls, you’d be my type.” Jules says with a goofy smile.

Haley’s head bobs as she precariously sways in her seat. “You’re gorgeous.”

I give them a grateful smile. “Yeah, well, tell him that.”

Nevaeh comically opens and closes her mouth as if she’s still tasting the alcohol on her tongue. “Who is this guy? Is he from our school? Cause if he is, I’m going to mess him up.”

A chuckle escapes my lips when she scrunches her face and punches the palm of her hand.

“No, he doesn’t go to our school. He’s Azazel’s friend, Fallon.” I know I shouldn’t have told them, but it seems that after so many drinks, my mouth has forgotten to sensor itself.

Amara’s eyes widen with surprise while the others’ mouths gape open. “Hold on, hold on…” Amara stumbles out of her seat and rests her elbow on my shoulder. “You like Fallon? As in Lucifer’s son, Fallon? The really tall, broody guy who looks like a rocker and could be a centerfold for Vibe magazine?”

I nod. “Yep,”

“Holy crap!” Amara exclaims. “He is freaking hot.”

Nevaeh nods. “Yeah, he is. I met him a couple of weeks ago when I came here to talk to Azazel and Zoe. Mikhail likes him. I think it’s because they’re a lot alike. They both have this don’t-fuck-with-me vibe, ya know?”

Haley and Jules jump up.

“Yeah, he looks like a bad boy. We met him when he helped Tristan, Rowan, and Carrick sort the files that we found in Dr. Romani’s office.” Haley answers.

“Yeah, we kind of asked Tristan who he was,” Jules mutters conspiratorially.

Haley laughs. “Actually, we asked him who the hot guy with Azazel was.” She gives me a wide-eyed stare and leans close. “We were like so super shocked to hear that he was Lucifer’s son.”

Jules snorts and elbows her in the shoulder. “We were actually more shocked that Lucifer was real.” She looks at me and snickers. “I couldn’t believe it.”

A chuckle escapes my lips. I can relate to her reaction because I thought I had lost my mind when I found out that the supernatural world exists.

“You should call him.” Nevaeh waggles her eyebrows and gives me a wicked smile.

I shake my head, making my head swim. “I…I can’t.”

The girls give me eager smiles and urge me with their hands. Nevaeh pushes my cell phone into my hands and smiles sloppily. “Do it, girl. Call him.”

I try to steady myself on the couch as I grip the phone in my hand tightly. Liquid courage is a fantastic thing, and I’m swimming in it right now. Pushing my hair behind my back, I lick my lips and cross my legs as I search for Fallon’s contact information. My fingers miss the screen several times, but somehow, I manage it. I look down at my halter top and short jean skirt and adjust the hem before pressing the dial button.

My heart beats wildly in my chest while I wait for him to respond. I almost fall off my seat when I hear his husky voice. “Bree?”

I give the girls a thumbs up and smile drunkenly. “Hey, Fallon,” I mutter breathlessly. The girls bob their heads approvingly, their expressions intent on mine.

“Is something wrong?” he asks.

I shake my head and lean back on my seat. “Why do you think that.” I slur. “I was just wondering what you’re doing, ya know?”

The line grows silent, and for a moment, I think he disconnected the call.

“Are you sloshed, Bree?”

I look at the girls, who begin to whisper encouragement.

“Tell him he’s hot,” Amara mutters.

“No, tell him you want him to take you to bed,” Jules argues.

“What are you talking about. Tell that him you’re naked, and you need him to warm you up.” Haley slurs.

Nevaeh puts her ear next to the phone and shakes me. “Tell him you want to kiss him.”

I give her an affirming smile and prepare to reply. Unfortunately, I’m too drunk to be eloquent, and everything I say comes out like a jumbled mess.

“I want you to be naked with me because you’re hot. You should kiss me.” To add insult to injury, a hiccup escapes my lips after my final word, but I don’t let it deter me. Drunk Bree is a lot more persistent than sober Bree. “What is sloshed? Does that mean drunk? Because I’m not. I’m just tipsy.” I hiccup again. “Anyway, I think you should take me to bed and warm me up.”

“Ummm…where are you?” he asks steadily.

I ignore his question and continue with my diatribe. “Do you think I’m pretty?”

His breath fans the receiver. “Just tell me where you are, Bree,” he persists, which makes me mad.

Unfortunately, drunken Bree can also pout and throw a tantrum like a toddler in a toy store, which is precisely what I do.

“No! Until you answer my questions, I don’t have to answer yours.”

I can almost hear his teeth grinding through the receiver, followed by what I think are British curse words. I know I heard the words bloody, knackered, woman, nutter, and something about things going balls up.

My smile diminishes with every word, and tears gather in my eyes. “I’m going to disconnect now…bye.”

“Do not bloody disconnect, Bree!” he calls out.

“You’re mean, and I don’t want to talk to you anymore.” I manage to answer tearfully.

As I’m about to press disconnect, he calls out again. “Of course, I think you’re bloody beautiful! You’re one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever met. If you tell me where you are, I will take you home and warm you up like you asked.”

I look at my friends who have been listening intently. All of them give me enthusiastic nods.

“Okay…I’m…” I swallow because my mouth is dry. “…at the Garden of Eden.”

He answers immediately. “Stay where you are. I’m on my way.”

I disconnect the call and face the girls.

Nevaeh rests her head on my shoulder and chuckles. “Girl, you totally played him until he admitted the truth. You’re totally my hero.”

Amara, Haley, and Jules take another sip of their drinks and chuckle.

I salute each woman with my glass, nearly spilling its contents in my hand, and drink it down. Rising up, I close my eyes and sway to the music.

The girls do the same and begin to sing along in the most off-tune voices. I feel so free at that moment.

Nevaeh and I are facing each other as we sway and sing. It’s only when her eyes open wide and she stops in place that I know that Fallon has arrived. She looks behind me, then meets my eyes and mimes the words. “Turn around.”

Smiling dazedly, I turn around and face the man of my dreams. Fallon’s silver eyes swirl with emotions as he gazes intently into my eyes. Stepping forward, I place my palms against his hard chest and merrily call out. “Hey, handsome.”

He doesn’t return my smile, but it doesn’t bother me because he pulls me to him and wraps his arms around me. “Let’s go,” he mutters.

I shake my head and gesture to my friends. “I can’t leave them.”

“I know you won’t, which is why I called their men to come and get them.”

Before I can question him, Mikhail, Carrick, Rowan, and Kell show up. Each man takes charge of their mates and leaves.

Leaning close, slide my arms up his chest and wrap my arms around his neck. “You came for me,” I ask.

His jaw ticks with untold emotion, but he doesn’t pull away. Feeling brave, I rise to my toes and kiss his bottom lip. His eyes heat like molten silver, and his breath hitches as his lips cautiously graze mine. The kiss slowly deepens, and our bodies melt into each other. His tongue seeks mine, swirling as our lips nip and suck. Pleasure thrums inside me as one of his large hands wander down my hips and circle my butt, and the other slides inside of my shirt, to caress my bare stomach.

Gliding my hands up, I loosen the tie holding his hair and sift my fingers through the silky strands.

“Not here, luv,” he mutters between kisses. “We need to go.”

I nod as I kiss my way down his jaw and neck, making him moan when I suck hard on the tendon. His hands tighten around my waist before he gently pushes me away. I nearly stumble, still dazed from our kiss and my tipsy state.

Fallon smirks at my clumsy attempt to straighten my stance and takes my hand. I follow silently until I realize that we’re going up to the rooftop bar instead of the exit. “Why are we coming up here?” I ask as soon as we reach the roof.

Fallon releases his large leathery wings and points to the sky. I look up and take a step back when my stomach turns. Swallowing hard, I shake my head. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.” I manage to slur out as I stumble to a nearby patio sofa and slump down on the comfortable cushion.

Fallon follows me and takes a seat on the coffee table in front of my seat. “You are slushed. Do you need to chunder?”

I shake my head, my lips puckering as I contain my nausea. He slides closer and massages my shoulder. “You’re pale, luv. Take a couple of deep breaths.”

I do as he says until the feeling finally dissipates. His palms settle on my thighs, and his eyes inspect my face. “Feeling better?”

I nod, but I can feel my happy, drunken state bordering a hangover. “Can you do that healing thingy on me, Fallon?”

He quirks a brow. “Healing thingy? Is that what you call it?”

I give him a wobbly nod. “Yeah, you know, that thing you did to heal my wounds the other day.”

He shakes his head with a snort but doesn’t argue. Instead, he places his palm on my chest and gazes concentratedly into the area. A warm feeling intensifies in my chest at that moment, followed by a pleasant glow. As soon as the glow begins to fade, so does any evidence of my drunken state. I watch intently as the light spreads up his arm and body. For a moment, Fallon closes his eyes tightly and clenches his jaw. His color fades, and he looks ill. Gasping with shock, I watch as he sways until the color returns to his face and he becomes steady.

“Did that…did that hurt?” I ask.

He clenches his jaw and looks down at his hands. “I can heal people, but it usually comes with a cost. That’s why I try not to do it.”

I place my hands over his and tilt my head toward him. “What cost?”

He shrugs. “I absorb their injuries into myself. It’s possible that if the person is terminally injured, I cannot heal it. When I lived in the Nether with Lilith, she’d force me to heal creatures that she’d torture. Sometimes, I’d be too incapacitated to move, or I’d go into a deep sleep and awaken after a good amount of time has passed. Lilith thought it was amusing and would test my limits. At one point, she forced me to heal a dying creature, and I almost died with him. I was on the brink of death until she forced darkness inside of me and brought me back. She only did it because she still had use for me. However, she understood that she had the key to ending me if she needed to.”

All of the colors drain from my body. I can’t believe she would do that to him. His own freaking mother. I swear if I ever get my hands on her, I’m going to strangle her. Guilt quickly sets in at the thought that I asked him to heal me, and he did it without hesitation. My lip wobbles with emotion as I tighten my fingers around his. “I’m so sorry, Fallon. If I would have known…”

He turns my hands over and strokes my palms. “Don’t. Don’t feel guilty. Don’t you know by now that I would do anything for you?” he says with so much emotion that I can’t contain myself. Angling forward, I push his hands back and straddle his lap. He slides his hands up and places his palms behind my neck. We don’t think about where we are. All we want is to get close.

Thankfully, Azazel doesn’t use the rooftop unless it’s for his friends or private parties. Neither of which is occurring at the moment. The soft wind ruffles our clothing, trees swaying in the breeze, and crickets singing create a sonata for our kiss. My thighs flex as I grind against the large bulge between his thighs. My folds weep, and my clit throbs as the kiss grows heated. Placing my palms against his broad chest, I knead his pectorals and grip his shirt tightly. He’s wearing a navy blue, long-sleeved, fitted cotton shirt that fits him like a second skin. As I explore him, he slides his hands beneath my top and traces the ridges of my spine. Goosebumps Erupt throughout my body as my pleasure heightens. I’m about to slide my hands up his shirt when he stiffens and pulls away.

“What’s wrong?” I ask.

He holds his index finger up and warily looks around the open area. “We should—”

The floor rumbles, followed by a deafening roar. Rising up, I take his hand as the roof begins to shake. Sounds of screams and rushing footsteps reverberate below us. Fallon grips me tightly and releases his wings to fly up, but several creatures appear around us before we can take off. I look cautiously as the creatures raise their sharp-clawed paws. They look like a mixture between a cat, a bird, and a gargoyle. Their bodies are grey, and their back legs look like they belong to gigantic birds.

Fallon pushes me behind him and materializes his flaming sword. The creatures release a deafening screech, making my eardrums ache painfully. It sounds like an amplified version of someone scratching a chalkboard. I grip my ears as the creatures bursts through the air. I can see people beings chased by them as they run out into the street.

One of the creatures swoops down, but Fallon cuts through it like a knife to butter before he can attack. The thing lets out a hideous screech before it bursts into flames. Fallon does the same to a few more creatures while keeping me safely behind him. But it’s a futile effort because the creatures keep coming in droves.

Seeing that I can’t just stand there, I grab a nearby fireplace poker that the club uses for the outdoor firepits and swat at the creatures. I feel like a warrior, but I’m sure I look like an old woman trying to swat at a fly.

I almost pee my pants when one of the creatures opens its mouth and shows me rows of razor-sharp teeth. Scrambling back, I cry out when it lunges and scratches my arm.

Another one manages to grip my hair, but I stab it in the belly.

Crying out, I fall forward when it roughly pushes me away.

Another one jumps on my back, but Fallon kicks it away and pushes me to an empty corner. But I resist and hit an approaching creature with the poker.

“Stay out of the way!” Fallon calls out as he throws a fireball at another creature and steps protectively before me.

Mouths open, the creatures surround us and prepare to strike. But before they can, Fallon extends his arms out with a loud roar and changes. His other form is frighteningly beautiful. His skin changes color. Almost like black leather, and his eyes turn into pits of blue fire. His leathery wings expand in front of me, and his hands and feet extend into deadly claws. His face is the most entrancing part. His hair grows thicker, and his cheekbones sharpen into sharp edges.

When he growls, his fangs gleam like pearls, and his chest and arms are broader.

Several creatures lunge toward him, while another takes advantage of the distraction and snatches me into his arm. Crying out, I struggle against the creature’s restraining arms.

“Fallon!” I call out to Fallon as the creature’s claws dig into my side painfully.

Fallon flies up and slices through the creature’s neck before he snatches me out of its arms and sets me safely back on the rooftop.

Turning back, he flutters his wings and lets out a frightening growl.

At the fearful sight, the creatures stop their descent and begin to back away. It’s like they realized that there is a more significant predator in their midst.

Fallon rolls his shoulders and takes a threatening step forward. The creatures slowly retreat, but before they can go far, Fallon’s hands begin to take an unearthly glow and blasts power out, encompassing each creature. This glow is different than the gentle white light that he used to heal me. This one is the same as the glow of the flame that surrounds his sword.

As soon as the power hits the creatures, they turn to ash. Within moments, the rooftop is unearthly silent. I look down the edge of the roof and see that Azazel and some of his men are dispatching the ones that attacked the club.

Turning back, I face Fallon. He’s still in his other form, but it doesn’t bother me. In fact, seeing his six-pack and corded thighs turns me on at a nuclear level. He looks at me angrily as he steps forward.

Pulling me closer, he roughly mutters. “Hold on.”

I do what he says and close my eyes as he lifts us up in the air and traverses across the velvety sky. I open my eyes as soon as we land on the ground. We’re on the balcony of my apartment. The curtains sway with the wind as soon as I open the doors.

Turning around, I observe with interest as his body changes back to its human form. It’s seamless how his clothes reappear and his body changes. His silver eyes gleam with untold emotions as he gazes into mine.

“What the sodding hell were you thinking fighting those creatures?” he paces forward aggressively.

My lip quirks. “It was going to hurt you.”

He prowls closer and searches my expression. “I would have been fine. You should have stayed where I placed you!”

I grind my teeth as I confront him. “I’m not some stupid girl that you can boss around!”

He slides his fingers through his hair with a frustrated sigh and turns in a circle. “You may think so, but what you did was irresponsible and idiotic.”

My lips pucker with rage. “It was not, and don’t you dare tell me that I have no right to fight too!”

“Which you didn’t!” he grows. “If anything, you distracted me and put yourself in danger. Don’t you ever think before you do anything?”

Chest heaving, I stop in front of him and poke him in the chest. “Of course, I do. What kind of person would I be if I stand back and let you be hurt? You’re such an asshole?!”

His jaw clenches so tight that I swear I can hear his teeth grinding. “And you’re infuriating!” he says before he turns to walk away. However, before he can leave, I slip off my shirt and throw it at him. Fallon turns, ready to argue but falters when he sees my naked breasts. Keeping eye contact, I unzip my skirt and let it also fall to the ground, leaving me wearing my lacy blue bikini panties and strappy heels.

Without a word, he steps forward and picks me up in his arms.

Wrapping my legs around his waist, I let him carry me to my bedroom. Without hesitation, I help him remove his shirt and jeans. As each article of clothing comes off, I let my hands wander. Our lips lock tightly, and our tongues savor. It’s nearly overwhelming how intense the moment feels. His hands mold against my breasts and lightly pinch my nipples as he rains kisses across my jaw and neck. Arching my back, I slide my fingers through his hair and bite and nip his shoulder.

Groans and moans resound through the room, along with the rustle of the sheets. Soft mewls escape my lips when I feel his hard chest against mine. His velvety skin is warm and firm due to his toned muscles. Sliding my hand over every crevice and indentation on his chest, I dig my nails down and growl when his tongue swirls around my tight nipple. The bud throbs and swells with every flick of his warm tongue.

When his hand slides between my legs and rubs against my molten slit, I close my eyes and growl. Clinging tightly to him, I gasp and sigh when his tapered fingers slide inside my wet folds. Crying out, I open my legs wide and let him remove my panties. Kneeling before me, Fallon runs his gaze appraisingly across my naked frame. “You’re so beautiful,” he whispers worshipfully.

Scooting forward, I kneel in front of him. I run my gaze down his powerful shoulders, tapered chest, and abs until I see his hard bulge. His boxer briefs strain from the weight of his large cock and firm ass. The man is perfection personified.

I lick my lips as I slide a hand down his chest and slip it inside the seam of his briefs. His cock is definitely proportionate to his large body. Wrapping my first around his warm, hot shaft, I kiss my way down his chest and push them down. Precum coats his broad tip, and his chest heaves from his heavy breathing. I don’t hesitate to take him in my warm mouth and lick him. Fallon throws his head back with a gasp and thrusts his hips to fully engulf himself between my lips. Sucking hard, I lick around his crown and massage his shaft. “Fuck, Bree,” he huskily gasps out. I smile as I continue to stroke his hardness.

I swirl my tongue around the head and massage him for several minutes until he throws his head back with a cry and coats my tongue with his essence. His body shudders as he reaches his release. It’s only when his shallow breathing slows down, and his erratic movements stop that he pushes me onto my back and buries his face between my thighs.

“Oh yes,” I moaned deliriously. Bliss, as I’ve never known, spreads throughout my body as his tongue brings me close to ecstasy. I shamelessly ride his tongue as it sucks and swirls around my clit, and his fingers expertly push in and out of my slit until he’s creating a torrent of pleasure that threatens to explode inside of me. Closing my eyes, I arch my back and slide my fingers through his hair as I let the waves of passion that wash through my body overwhelm my senses. Tremors of bliss rock my body until I’m lying spent.

Falling beside me, Fallon pulls me into his arms and holds me close. The sound of our heavy breathing fills the room, and our bodies glisten from our exertions. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so satisfied in my whole life.

Within moments, I’m fast asleep in my lover’s arms.
