Jon and I arrived at the place where a very formal party was taking place, that is, it wasn't that kind of party where everything was a disaster and where there were people doing inappropriate things. It was a big, fine and luxurious place. Jon led me through the entrance where I could see the guys dressed in formal wear and even suits. Wow, luckily I wore this more or less formal dress. Jon led me to the entrance where I froze:
They were all in front of me, my heart beating a little faster when I looked at Kessler there, a few feet away. He had a glass of wine in his hands, he was wearing a suit which made him sexier than normal. My breath hitched at that moment as I remembered what happened a few nights ago. Kessler looked into my eyes, I felt his gaze penetrate me, it was strong and determined. Besides that no one seemed to take their eyes off. However Jon took my arm which made me see it, I smiled at him and we both walked towards where everyone was. I feel like a freak here, seriously, I don't know anyone.
"Shall I bring you something to drink?" Jon asks me.
"Yeah, okay," I agreed.
"I'll be right back." I was surprised when Jon kissed me on the cheek before leaving for the drinks. I was observing my surroundings: there were pictures of people I don't know among other things. The light that illuminated the place was between pink and light blue, they are neon and quite light, they are beautiful. The living room is very beautiful. A piano song was playing in the background. I could see Riley a few meters away talking with her friends.
“It seems that you didn't want to listen to me” a voice behind me made me turn around.
“Kessler,” I muttered.
He looks more handsome up close. But he looks angry.
"Evangeline," he whispered.
“You too?”
“What's wrong with it?” He approached. “Eva, you shouldn't be here, I'm serious, you still have time to go.”
In that people began to applaud someone. I looked closely: a woman with straight black hair, white complexion and very beautiful entered. Who is she? Her face looked familiar.
“Who is she?” I asked Kessler.
"My mother," he replied, "the mayoress."
I was surprised by how young that woman looked, she didn't look like Kessler's mother, that is, they have similar features, like hair, skin, how handsome they are. That lady's blue eyes look like sea glass, I was mesmerized looking at her... her eyes... wow.
"She's beautiful," I whispered, wanting to go over to her and say hello.
"Eva." Kessler took me by the arms and made me look at him. I immediately fell into reality “Don't be fooled by appearances.”
“What are you taking about?”
“Forget it. Stay away from my mother, will you?”
"Don't be rude," I wriggled out.
“Kessler.”
I jumped in fright in my place when I heard his voice.
"Won't you introduce me to your friend?" The lady was next to us. At what point did she come here? The mysterious runs in the family.
"Mom..." Kessler sentenced, "don't start."
"Hi, you must be the sheriff's daughter." She holds out her hand and I give it to her so as not to be rude.
"Yes, I'm Eva Bailey.”
“Nice to meet you, Eva, the other time I had the opportunity to meet your brother Lucas, didn't he come, right?” She wanted to know.
“Hmm I think not, he’s with a friend in town...”
“I understand. Say hello to him please. I am Kessler's mother, Carmina Walton, I am the mayor of this beautiful town so whatever you need I am at your service," she tells me, smiling.
“Thank you. Nice to meet you, ma'am." I smiled back.
“I have to say hello to other people, I'll leave them” Carmina left and I looked at Kessler with a raised eyebrow.
"Well well, Kessler Walton," I teased him, "your mother is very young and beautiful.”
"Aha," he drank from his wine, perhaps it bothers him that his mother has come, "shall we go?"
"Sorry I'm late." Jon appears with two glasses of wine. Now I am very uncomfortable. “Walton, you don't waste time.”
Kessler laughed.
“You neither. We've already talked about this, Jon, I don't understand why you insist on looking for Eva. She is mine.”
“Kessler!” I snapped. I hate that he goes around saying that I'm his. That is to say, sometimes in private it sounded good but not telling anyone. "Don't start fighting here please.”
"Eva, let's go." Jon took my arm.
"Don't touch her, asshole." Kessler pushed Jon away.
“Stop! Kessler, you should see what your girlfriend is doing” I settled “Let's go, Jon” I took Jon's arm and we left there. "I'm sorry," I apologized to him.
"Eva, why did Kessler say you were his? Did you two...?”
I felt my cheeks burn.
“What? No!” I looked down with some embarrassment.
“Eva, I warned you not to have anything to do with him. It's not about being jealous or anything but Kessler is very dangerous.”
I looked at Jon.
"Jon…let's not talk about it please," I muttered.
“Alright. Let's go? The party was ruined for us, plus it’s kind of bored.”
“Where will we go?”
"On the outskirts of town, if we arrive on time we'll watch when the fireworks burn," he proposed. I liked that idea so I agreed to go with him. Jon and I went back to his car and got in. Jon drove down a dirt road that seemed to lead to the outskirts of town, where there were a lot more people. Wow, I think almost the whole town was here. Nothing to do with that rich party. There were mechanical games, places where they sold food... it was like a fair. But I liked this environment better. The bad thing is that I'm not dressed for this occasion. Right now I wish I was wearing faded jeans, sneakers, and a sweater. It's cold.
We lower the car.
“And what do you think?”
“Much better the truth.”
"I know, let's go for something. Jon and I were going to move forward but the sound of a car pulling up caught our attention. It can't be: Kessler. He went down but he came with Riley, he took her by the hand and they went the other way. "He will never leave you alone," he tells me. "Even if he tries, he can't."
“Why not? You guys are very strange, you know that?”
"And you haven't seen anything."
I was curious about what he said but I didn't ask, we entered the place. I bought popcorn and a soda. Jon started shooting in a game so he could win a stuffed wolf which he gave to me. The bear was in the form of a black wolf. He reminded me of that wolf at the Kessler house.
"Seems they take good care of the wolves here," I murmured. We sit in a place away from people to be able to chat at ease. Where will Kessler be?
“Hmm, maybe it's like our symbol.”
“Why?” I wanted to know. I remembered the book I stole from the library and felt like I should keep reading it.
“I don't know, it's always been like that.”
“Brilliant.”
"It's about to start," he tells me. People started launching fireworks into the sky, I was stunned watching them. I have always liked them, they are magical. However, at that moment something happened, screams were heard. I lowered my gaze and looked in the direction of the fair.
“What's going on?”
"It can't be," Jon says. "Stay here, don't move," Jon runs out, leaving me alone with my heart beating faster. More screaming and more and more. In the distance I looked at an animal among so many people, I was stunned because they are wolves. Chaos invaded all the people at the fair who began to run in terror, I saw a wolf biting the head of a boy. Immediately my instinct kicked in and made me think of Lucas.
“Lucas” I ran inside without thinking about the wolves “Lucas!” I yelled as people ran past me like few others “Lucas!” some pushed me and made me fall. I kept running until I found Lottie who was hiding under a table. "Lottie!" I yelled, getting her attention. The girl looked at me and signaled for silence, pointing after her above her. There appeared a huge black wolf savoring his tongue, his muzzle was full of blood. The wolf looked at me. I was afraid to take a step because I knew the wolf would follow me.
"Eva, Lottie!" Lucas's voice put the wolf on alert, Lucas was there and I feared for him. “Damn!” Lucas took a sharp iron and wanted to scare the wolf away.
"Lucas, no!” I exclaimed but I knew it was useless. Lucas ran towards me and put himself as a shield. "Lucas... please don't do anything," I whispered.
“Don't worry, dad has taught me how to control these animals.”
I wanted to tell him that Dad only taught him to tame small, common wolves and not these wild, huge beasts. The wolf ran towards us, my instinct was to put myself in front of Lucas as a shield to protect my brother.
“No!” I yelled as the wolf threw me into the air and my body landed on top of something hard. My breathing stopped, I feel like I'm dying... I can't breathe. With some difficulty I watched as the wolf attacked my brother.
