Chapter 19 Chapter 19
Once those words and that voice landed in her ears, her heart rate spiked.
Luna had never been asleep. Since the moment he had taken his first step into her room, she had been alert.
However, she had instantly started to pretend to be asleep upon confirming it was him.
It wasn’t because she was afraid of him. She wanted to know how he would act when her guard was down.
He was the man who had her fate, her life, in his hands. He was the one she had to fight. Only by knowing how he would behave when her guard was down would she understand what he truly wanted.
Inside the blanket, her tiny fists tightened. But because they were hidden, Damian Blackwell couldn’t notice her nervousness. She forced herself to maintain a calm facial expression and continued to pretend.
“There is no use for it. I already know that you are awake.” His powerful voice landed on her ears once again, sending a shiver down to her core.
However, this time it wasn’t his voice alone. His hand reached out and took the liberty to twist a strand of her hair around his finger.
Luna opened her eyes at once. Dropping the pretence, she grabbed her wrist and shoved his hand away from her. With cold, dead eyes, she looked at him. Not avoiding eye contact. Showing not an ounce of fear.
Her fiery eyes met his. They were sharp and determined. Faced with those cold eyes, she didn’t cringe away as any other docile-looking woman would. Instead, she faced him herself unaware where that sudden surge of confidence and strength came from.
“Keep away.”
Damien was positively amused. He chuckled lightly. “How repulsed you are at my touch. It seems ironic, considering you are here as my mistress.”
Upon that harsh yet painfully accurate remark, Luna faltered for a second. But she quickly regained her composure.
“I am your mistress, not your slave.” She announced. Then, lowering her eyes, she calculatedly asked, “But that doesn’t matter, does it? Because I am pretty sure you never intended to bring me here to be your mistress or something. There is no way you are interested in me.” The question had been troubling her since the start.
That little girl was surprising him at every turn. Damien had to admit, he under estimated her.
Like a trapped kitten, she had raised her guard. Her every word and action was pre-planned and controlled. She didn’t let any fear or uncertainty leak from her eyes. Instead, her eyes were hard as marble.
Faced with her fierceness, his eyes narrowed slightly. It wasn't anger. It was amusement.
He glanced at her one last time before walking away from the bed.
Luna was never given the answer to the question she asked.
Amoment later, some servants walked into her room with some expensive wine and two intricate wine glasses. They placed them on the table, poured them halfway, and left without making the slightest noise.
Luna adjusted herself, sitting on her knees while facing Daimen, who was headed for the sofa.
“Come here.” Damian took off his blazer and called to her after sitting. His eyes didn’t show anything other than coldness. Sitting on the couch alone, with his aura and temperament, he looked regal and imposing.
“I don’t drink,” Luna replied, quiet and succinit..
Damian didn’t say a word while picking up his glass. Silently inspecting it, he stayed observed it for a while. After some time, his eyes shifted in her direction
“Come here.” Same words. But firmer. Louder. No room for negotattion.
Luna was aware of her situation. More than that she was aware what was at stake here: her family. She was already mentaly prepared for the worst case scenerio. No, she wasn't going to fight a loosing war. This was where she would yield.
Obediently, she got up. With careful steps she approached him waiting for his next instructions.
To her surprise, instead of an order, she was grabbed and pulled down onto a lap. Luna heart jumped out of her throat. Her heart hammered against her chest. Her face flushed. She was so close to him. She could smell his cologne. She could feel the strength of muscular arm around her waist. Her hand that rested on his chest to keep herself from literally falling into his hug, could feel the firmness of his chest.
A few moments passed. Daimen didn't do anything further. She nerves calmed down. Her heart slowed down.
Remembering the unasnwered question biting at the back of her mind, she cautiously asked.
“You didn’t answer my question." Luna knew she was treading on a thin road by bringing this up. But she wanted to have answers. She wanted to know what rested ahead for her. She wanted to be mentally prepared for what rested ahead. Whether it was good or bad. "Why did you decide to have me here?”
Damien silently observed the little girlin his lap whowas dripping with rebellion.
Emboldoned by his silence, she pressed further. “Is this some dirty game you are playing to seek revenge on me? Is it about making me regret it? If this is all that it is about, you can stop the act.”
"The act?"
"The kindness. This princess treatment."
This wasn't what should be offered to her once she had slapped him. His motives were anything but good. Then why the contradictory actions?
Damien Blackwell ruthlessness was a known thing in the city,
She didn't believe this.
Damian tilted his head slightly and stared directly into her eyes. His face was impassive; no one could penetrate his inner thoughts or take a glimpse into his emotions.
Slowly, he grabbed her chin. His lips curled up slightly. Being so close to him, Luna’s heart picked up.
It felt like he was inwardly laughing at her.
For what?
Was she really overthinking?
Luna was pretty confused. Suddenly, he leaned in and kissed her.
