Chapter 323 Experiencing A Threatened Miscarriage
Chapter 323 Experiencing A Threatened Miscarriage
Emma's POV
I could feel Ryan's shoulder digging into my stomach as he carried me out of the hospital like a sack of potatoes. My head bobbed with each of his determined strides, blood rushing to my face. A small crowd had gathered, their eyes wide with shock, but not one of them stepped forward to help.
"I'd like to see which bastard has the guts to save you," Ryan sneered, his voice vibrating through his body against my abdomen.
"Put me down!" I screamed, pounding my fists against his back. It was like hitting concrete—completely ineffective. My heart raced with fear and humiliation as I continued to struggle.
Suddenly, a child's voice pierced through the tense atmosphere. "Brother!"
I twisted my neck painfully to see Annie running toward us, her innocent face contorted with concern.
"What are you doing?" Annie demanded, planting herself directly in Ryan's path with surprising courage. "Why are you carrying her like that? It looks like you're robbing someone!"
I could feel Ryan's body tense, but his voice remained controlled when addressing his sister. "Go back inside, Annie."
"She needs help," I called out desperately to Annie. "Please help me!"
Annie's expression shifted to one of thoughtful determination. "Brother, you should put down her. If you want to carry someone, you can carry Annie instead."
I felt Ryan hesitate beneath me, clearly torn between his affection for his sister and whatever plan he had for me.
The sharp click of heels against pavement announced Victoria's arrival. From my awkward position, I could just make out her cold expression as Ryan addressed her.
"Take Annie away," he ordered. "Or I'll toss her aside."
Victoria's laugh was brittle. "Go ahead and throw her aside. She's a Blackwell after all, not my concern."
I heard her footsteps retreating, deliberately leaving Annie to block Ryan's path. I silently thanked Victoria for her calculated abandonment.
Ryan muttered a curse that I felt more than heard. Before he could decide what to do next, I heard Gavin's voice, firm and commanding.
"Put her down, Ryan."
Ryan's laughter jolted my body uncomfortably. "Why should I? This woman has already slept with another man."
The sudden movement as Gavin lunged forward made my stomach roll. I felt Ryan shift to block the attack, jostling me violently in the process. The nausea that had been building suddenly overwhelmed me, and before I could stop it, I vomited down Ryan's back.
"Fuck!" Ryan shouted, disgust evident in his voice.
The next moment, I was falling. I caught a glimpse of Gavin's outstretched arms trying to catch me, but he couldn't reach me in time. I hit the ground hard, a sharp pain shooting through my pelvis. I curled into myself instinctively, clutching my abdomen as intense cramps seized me.
"Emma!" Annie's frightened voice sounded close to my ear. I opened my eyes to see her small face pale with fear as she pointed at my legs. "Blood! She's bleeding!"
I looked down in horror to see a dark stain spreading across my clothes. The sight sent a chill through me that had nothing to do with the cool ground beneath me.
Gavin appeared in my field of vision, his face ashen. Without a word, he scooped me up and ran toward the emergency entrance. I clung to him, the pain in my abdomen intensifying with each step.
"Hold on, Emma," he whispered as hospital staff rushed to meet us.
Inside the emergency room, everything happened in a blur. A doctor examined me quickly, his expression serious as he delivered news that made my world tilt on its axis.
"You're experiencing a threatened miscarriage," he stated clinically.
I blinked, struggling to process his words. "Doctor, I'm pregnant?" My voice sounded distant to my own ears.
His disapproving look made me feel inexplicably ashamed. "You didn't know? You're approximately six weeks along. Honestly, how could you not know?"
A sudden, fierce protectiveness surged through me for this tiny life I hadn't known existed until this moment. "Please," I begged, "can you save the baby?"
The doctor sighed, scribbling on a prescription pad. "Bed rest for at least a week. Complete rest. No work, no stress. I'll prescribe progesterone to help maintain the pregnancy."
My mind raced with implications. Blake's baby. We were having a baby. "Can I stay in the hospital?" I asked, needing the security of medical supervision.
"We don't have any beds available," the doctor replied dismissively.
I heard Gavin step forward beside me. "We'll take a VIP room." His voice was firm, brooking no argument.
"Those are full too," the doctor responded, clearly annoyed.
"Then I'll call the hospital director," Gavin threatened, pulling out his phone.
The standoff was interrupted by Rachel's arrival. "What's going on?" she asked, quickly taking in the scene.
After hearing a brief explanation, Rachel turned to the doctor. "Emma can stay in my on-call room."
I watched the doctor's demeanor change instantly upon learning I was Rachel's friend. With a curt nod, he left to arrange the paperwork.
Later, Rachel led us to a VIP hospital room she had somehow secured. I lay back against the pillows, still trying to absorb the shocking news.
"The baby is fine, Emma," Rachel reassured me, checking the monitors. "You're lucky we caught this early."
She smiled softly. "This is yours and Blake's love crystallized into a new life."
From the corner of my eye, I caught Gavin's expression shift at Rachel's words—a fleeting look of loneliness crossing his face before he carefully masked it. Despite everything, I felt a pang of sympathy for him.
Once we were alone, Rachel gently chided me. "How could you not know you were pregnant? Didn't you notice any symptoms?"
I sighed, staring at the ceiling. "I've been so distracted since Blake left. I thought the nausea was from stress, and my period has never been regular..."
I turned to Rachel, feeling tears fill my eyes. "I'm so worried about Blake."
"I know," Rachel said, squeezing my hand.
"Aiden and Ryan have been backed into a corner," I continued, voicing my deepest fear. "I'm afraid of what they might do to him now."
