The Bride has been murdered

The Bride has been murdered
Travis's POV

It was like a dream. Dangerous, heart breaking and sudden. The hall erupted in chaos. But everything felt inaudible. I could only see her lifeless body on the floor. She was shot. Who would have done that? I kept on pushing and shaking her to wake up. Placing my ears on her chest but nothing like a beat.
“No.” Tears streamed out from my eyes as I grabbed her close, pulling her into my chest.

“Hillary….. wake up. Wake up!” I tapped her but she wasn't responding.
The ambulance siren, I could hear from outside and they were here. They carried her from the floor on a stretcher, checking her body.

I was left in shock. Everything happened too fast. She got shot right on the isles. My soon to be wife.

“Hey, Travis. Be still okay? I'm sorry.” Elena supports me from the floor. Bridget, her friend sobbed hard looking at her own friend, smeared in blood.

“I'm sorry, she's not breathing.” The paramedics delivered the news. “She's already dead. We've checked properly but it's too late.”

I've never felt this ache in my chest before. This pain. It was like an axe plunged through. How could Hillary be gone?
Marcus and the rest of the guards burst in and I paced round, raging, breathing. “Marcus!”

“Sir, we couldn't find anything. I really don't know how it happened. We've been keeping an eye on the perimeter but no signs of an attack. It's like the shooter vanished into thin air or it's from the church.”

I nod my head. “ Hillary's been shot Marcus.” I still couldn't believe it. My legs went out and I fell to my knees.

“The police are on their way.” His hand gripped my shoulders for support. “I'm so sorry sir. This is really bad.”

“Who could have done this?” My head was throbbing as I think, deeply. “Where's my father?”

Marcus narrowed his eyes, tilting his neck. “I'm well assured, your father is in the holding room. Cyrus and seb have been securing the room. According to the order you gave us.”

“Call them now. I want a video call to see if that man is still there.” I pant, panicking. I was suspecting my own father and it was disturbing. He did as ordered and my bodyguards were with my father in the room. The bruises in his body made him helpless and weak. If he isn't the one, then who?

“She can't be dead okay?” I didn't want to believe it. Elena tried to comfort me but I pushed her away and the police sirens were heard from afar.

“Who would do such a thing?!” I yelled and closed the gap between us. My hands trembled as I reached out to touch her cheeks. The makeup, still on her face.

“Hillary, wake up. Please.” My eyes watered more and my hands slowly moved on the blood stained wedding dress. The affected part of her stomach and chest where the bullet pierced through. My hands were stained with her blood and her body was lifeless.

“Take her to the hospital.” I looked up to the paramedics. Sorrow equally impacts their face.

“Now!” I yelled, my head was spinning with shock. “Hillary, wake up. It's our day, okay? Our wedding day. We're.. . supposed to get…. married today.”

I wiped my tears with the back of my hands. This is the first day a woman has ever made me cry this hard.

“Just wake up. Open your eyes baby.” I rocked her body and my white suit had turned bloody. My hands were like, I washed them in a pool of blood. It was messy here. 3 bullets and she's dead. That can't be possible.

“Hey. Open your eyes. Please. You….you….. We have a marriage to do…and ... ..and a vow to fufil…”
The hall was filled with sobs. I stood up and rushed towards the pastor, grabbed the rings from his hands and rushed to Hillary's body. Take her hands out and put the ring on her finger.

“Okay, wake up now. There, it's your ring and…..”

“Travis.”

Elena held me and didn't let go. “That's enough okay? That's enough.”
Marcus joined her and I couldn't even fight them off. My emotional state was too weak to fight them off. The police arrived to take control of the scene. They secured the area.

“I'm really sorry for your loss, Sir Lancaster. But could you tell us what happened.”

The lump formed in my throat as I opened my mouth, still trying to process the reality of what had taken place. I couldn't give them an answer. I was too disturbed to speak out. I kept on murmuring and choking on each sobs. They tried their best to calm me down, while asking questions of the witnesses. That damn fog spoiled everything. If only I could see through it. It was my fault. I should have ran faster to take the bullet instead. Now she's dead because of me. I lost Hillary. I lost her.

“No. No. No.” I breathed shakily. “It's my fault.”

That was the confession I made. I killed her. I started to hyperventilate and her body was covered with a sheet.

“Don't you dare take my wife anywhere.” I wanted to pounce on their body but the policemen held me back.
I shouted and wailed but their grip on me was strong. The weight of the news made my heart lament.
The officers kept on with their interrogation to investigate but I was full of pain. I just wanted to lift the sheet off of her face.

“Travis, Hillary is gone. I'm so sorry.” Elena wiped her tears. “She's um…she's going to be transported to a…..morgue.”

“Are you kidding me?” I whispered. “She's still alive. I know it. She wasn't even rushed to the hospital.”

“The bullets took her life too quickly. The medical team has confirmed it. They checked. They have already. The thing is..Who would do something like this?
My knuckles curled into a fist as I looked round.
Bridget had just collapsed, wailing.
The pastor was beside me when the fog came so it couldn't be him.
Elena was also beside Bridget when it happened.
Who would have done this?
