Mr Trent is evil

Mr Trent is evil
Hillary's POV

How much do I need to stay away from his son? The question made the environment around me seem invincible. Every other sound was inaudible, like I was thinking so hard. Not about the amount of money but thinking If this issue has become a matter to include bribery.
Fuck, he wants to bribe me, for someone I love.

“Are you lost?” His question snapped and I blinked, just perplexed. My intention was to get food but all appetite is gone for now.

“I can't….” My voice shuddered as I picked my fingers nervously. “I can't.”

“What do you mean by that?” He took off his shade and I met those bloody, determined eyes. He was hellbent and strict. Travis doesn't deserve this kind of father too.

Suddenly, he cackled and I stared at my watch. “I'm sorry, but I think I should go back to work. I'm very occupied.” I tried to lie but he was adamant.

“How about this? Why don't we talk over a drink, huh? I want to get to know you better.” He suddenly changed. But I don't get it…. Earlier, it sounds like he wanted to dump me off and now, he wants us to talk over lunch or whatever. What if I'm needed in the office? My mind wanders but still, I've always been curious to know the reason his dad hates me. Maybe, this could be the perfect opportunity to find out.

“Alright.” I responded. He led me into his car and I hopped in. He drove and stopped at a very fancy restaurant. I didn't touch my food but he had already eaten halfway. I was only preparing my heart for the conversation he had in mind.

“So?” He wiped his stained lips and drank water. “Hillary Highman.”

He was familiar with my full name.

“Yes—”

His gaze focused. Eyes narrowed. His facial expressions were giving me the heebie-jeebies. I wanted to hear him out and crawl away at the same time because of the growing sense of unease I felt inside me.

“Like I said earlier, think about wealth….. forget my son.”

“Forget about your son? But you said you wanted to get to know me better, considering you're okay with the both of us, right?”.

“Okay?” He stifled a laugh. “Oh, please…I wasn't so sure if you'd come willingly, so I said that. You know something, whatever the stupid fuck is going on between you and my son, I'd be delighted to write a check right now to make you disappear.”

“I am not for sale.” Confidence burst out and I made sure I'd get rid of fear. This is me speaking for myself and Travis.

He smirked. “Think about it…. everyone has a price and you…..think about your future.”

“I'm sorry, but I'm totally confused.” What exactly is this man saying? My head tilted sideways. His face was something I didn't want to look at.

“I know about your Father…. Richard Highman. Prisoner.”

I slowly turned to face him, My eyes twitched and I felt a sudden ache. Now, this felt like an abomination. Way too embarrassing. I gulped, the weight of disbelief and fear coursed through my head.

“You know I'm no ordinary man…. I have top connections with the best lawyers in the world…..”

Where was he driving? My ears were opened wide to hear him out.

“If you can't leave my son, I'd be forced to make calls…your dead father, he might see the light again…with you.”.

My stomach twisted and I was scared. “What are you talking about? You wouldn't, right?”

“Try me.”

“I love Travis okay? So why can't you let us be?” My eyes ran with water and he pouted.

“You're probably thinking of what would happen if Richard was out of prison. You know why he's locked up and you know what his offence was….that shit has traumatized you…..your nightmares would be coming back again when he's finally out.”

I was shaking on my chair, imagining and thinking about if my father would leave prison. The thought of that man made me want to throw up.

“How….ho…w? Would you….do that….?” I stammered, Travis has taken care of the case. He was there for me.

“Simple, money speaks ... .I have lawyers who've turned the impossible into possible in cases like this…People far gone can see sunlight with just my connections. Money speaks, Hillary.”

I couldn't control my emotions anymore, I blurted. “Do you hate me that much? What did I ever do to you, how do you know Richard Highman is my father? Why are you threatening me? If you love your son, then why did you want his happiness cut off?” I sniffed, crying bitterly. God, I don't want to leave Travis.

“Wait…you think you're Travis happiness?” He opened his mouth, surprised. “You think so….” He burst into laughter like the conversation was funny.

“And you think you're smart? That's evil you're doing right there… you should be ashamed of yourself.” I said through gritted teeth.

“I don't like you. I don't like you in any way. I hate your background. It smells, it stinks of poverty and dirt…” he dragged each word, laced with anger, just to prove how much he really hates me.

“ You're just some slutty girl clothed in luxurious clothes and living a luxurious life. You have nothing to offer my son, I know. I see beyond you being an assistant, you're not worth it….”

“Don't do this. Please.” I whispered.

“I don't want my future grandson to be like his mother's father. You know what they say, sometimes, criminals are born, not made. There's a high chance, if you marry Travis, your son, my grandson would biologically get the traits of…..”

“Enough..” I closed my mouth in shock..

“I'm not done yet, what I'm saying is that I don't want a grandson who's a rapist.”

I stood on my feet and banged the table. “That's enough!”

My hands were trembling and I didn't care if anyone was looking. I was totally weak at that point, Confused and tired. He smiled at my crumbled heart.

“That's…enough.” I said softly, feeling defeated.
