Hundred and ten
Sophia’s pov
I slowly pushed him away, my hands trembling as they pressed against his chest. “Stay away from me,” I whispered, but even as I said it, I knew it was a lie. I didn’t want him to stay away. I wanted him. I needed him. Every part of me ached for him, for his touch, for the way he made me feel like I belonged to him.
Henry didn’t move back. Instead, his gaze darkened as he studied my face, searching for something, an answer I wasn’t even sure I had. His voice was calm, but there was a sharp edge beneath it, a tension I could feel in the air between us. “What’s wrong?” He lowered his face to mine, his breath warm against my lips, tempting me to close the space between us again.
I swallowed hard, forcing myself to look away. “Nothing,” I lied, but I knew he wouldn’t believe me. “I just… I don’t think I can continue with this.”
His eyes narrowed slightly, his expression unreadable. “With what?”
“With us.” I replied, my heart felt heavy as I looked down, I couldn't bear to looknat his face.
Silence stretched between us, thick and suffocating. I could see the way his jaw tightened, the way his fingers twitched at his sides. His reaction wasn’t immediate, but when he finally spoke, his voice was laced with something dangerous, something I couldn’t quite decipher. “You think what we’re doing is wrong?”
I forced myself to nod even though everything inside me screamed the opposite. “Yes.”
His nostrils flared slightly, his lips pressing into a thin line. “And why is that?”
I exhaled sharply, frustration and something deeper twisting inside me. “Because it is, Henry. Because it’s forbidden. Because you—” I stopped myself before I could say too much. Before I could confess just how much he had consumed me, how much I had given up trying to fight him.
He let out a bitter chuckle, running a hand through his hair as he stepped back. The warmth that had surrounded me seconds ago disappeared, leaving behind an unbearable cold. “If that’s how you feel, then I won’t stop you.” His voice was hollow, but his eyes told a different story.
He turned away, his body tensing as if he were forcing himself to walk out of the room. “Don’t miss me when I’m gone, Sophia.” His voice was strained, but I heard the warning beneath it.
Panic shot through me. He was leaving. Did I want him to leave? No!
I quickly reached for him without thinking, my fingers wrapping around his wrist. “You can’t just walk away.” My voice was desperate, pleading, betraying everything I had just said.
Henry stopped. Slowly, he turned, his eyes locking onto mine. “And why not?”
My throat tightened. My grip on him didn’t loosen. “Because…” I inhaled sharply, my chest rising and falling rapidly. “Because after everything. After everything you’ve put me through. You don’t get to walk away that easily.”
His gaze darkened. He stepped closer, his body inches from mine. “And what exactly have I put you through?”
I let out a bitter laugh, shaking my head. “Do you really not know? Or do you just not care?” I could feel my emotions rising, the storm inside me threatening to spill over. “You dragged me into your world, made me feel things I shouldn’t feel, made me need you in ways I can’t even explain. And then you act like it’s nothing. Like I mean nothing.”
His expression flickered—just for a second. Then he lifted his hand, brushing his fingers over my cheek. His touch was gentle yet possessive, sending a shiver down my spine. “You think you mean nothing to me?”
I swallowed hard. “Don’t I?”
Henry exhaled harshly, his jaw clenching. “You have no idea, do you?” He leaned in, his lips a breath away from mine. “No idea how much I’ve fought against this. Against you.” His fingers slid down my arm, his grip tightening around my wrist. “I’ve made mistakes, Sophia. I know I have. But if you think for one second that I don’t care…” He stopped, inhaling sharply as if he was trying to control himself. “I wouldn’t have let you go through half the things you did if I had a choice.”
I stared at him, my heart pounding. “Then why did you?”
His lips parted slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but he hesitated. Then, after a moment, he whispered, “Because... let's forget about the past and facev the present Sophia, .”
A lump formed in my throat. “just that? What about now? Will you protect me? Will you allow me go through a lot like you used to?”
He lifted my chin, forcing me to meet his gaze. “Now, I won’t let you go through anything else. Not if I can help it.”
My breath hitched. His words did something to me, cracked something open inside me that I had tried so hard to keep locked away.
I moved before I could stop myself. My fingers curled into his shirt, pulling him toward me. And then I kissed him.
Henry didn’t hesitate. His hands gripped my waist, pulling me against him as he deepened the kiss, his lips rough, desperate, filled with all the emotions we had been trying to suppress.
There was nothing forbidden about the way he made me feel. Nothing wrong about the way my body craved him. And in that moment, I didn’t care about right or wrong.
If loving each was a sin, then yes, we were guilty of it.
