Chapter 56
Chapter 56
Morning came quietly, the pale glow of sunlight filtering through sheer curtains, touching the bedroom walls like a soft promise. I woke slowly, my body pleasantly sore and still humming from yesterday’s chaos and quiet defiance. Jackson’s arm was draped over my waist, his breathing slow and steady, each exhale brushing warmth against my neck.
For the first time in weeks, the heaviness of what had happened seemed muted, distant enough that I could hold it without it breaking me. I turned carefully in Jackson’s embrace, tracing my fingertips along the steady line of his jaw. He stirred at my touch, eyelids fluttering open, revealing eyes softened by sleep.
“Morning,” he whispered, voice rough, a sound I felt deep inside my chest.
“Morning,” I answered softly, sliding closer, letting our warmth blend. “Did you sleep?”
His lips curved into a slow, gentle smile. “With you here? Yeah.”
We lay like that for a while, quiet breaths mingling, my fingertips gently exploring the contours of his shoulder and the familiar lines of his chest. Jackson watched me carefully, a question unspoken behind his eyes. He reached out, smoothing a strand of hair behind my ear.
“What are you thinking about?” he asked quietly.
“Us,” I said softly, truthfully. “Everything that comes next.”
His gaze deepened, searching mine for reassurance. “And what do you want—after all this?”
“You,” I said simply, without hesitation. “Not because I need protection. Not because I’m afraid. Because it’s you.”
He exhaled slowly, like my words had uncoiled something tight inside him. His thumb brushed gently over my lower lip, his gaze fixed there, considering, wanting.
“I've wanted to hear you say that,” he murmured, the words a confession. “But I was afraid to ask.”
“I’m choosing you,” I whispered. “This isn’t about fear anymore. It’s about what I want.”
He moved closer, slowly, deliberately. His lips found mine gently, reverently, like he was sealing a vow. The kiss deepened, deliberate and slow, the kind that said stay here with me rather than take me somewhere else.
His hands moved carefully, slipping beneath my sleep shirt and grazing along my bare skin with measured tenderness. Every touch felt deliberate, charged with intention. I felt the shift in me instantly—not the fierce rush of urgency from before, but something deeper, quieter. Desire, yes, but also trust.
Slowly, he lifted the shirt over my head, watching my face carefully, pausing as the cool air touched my skin. His eyes traced over me slowly, not possessively, but with profound appreciation and awe.
“You're beautiful,” he whispered, voice thick and raw. “Every part of you.”
I tugged gently at his shirt, wanting to feel him against me, skin on skin. He removed it, and we pressed together, heat blending, bodies fitting effortlessly. I ran my hands down his chest, feeling every muscle, every scar. My fingers lingered on the old mark along his ribs, tracing gently.
“You don’t have to hide from me,” I whispered, lips brushing his shoulder. “I want to see all of you.”
Jackson drew a shaky breath, nodding silently. He let me push him gently onto his back. This time, I moved above him, watching his eyes darken as I took my time kissing his chest, his stomach, the hard lines of muscle and soft edges of vulnerability. I moved slowly, deliberately, savoring every reaction—his breath catching, muscles tightening beneath my lips, fingers gripping the sheets.
When I reached the waistband of his pants, he stilled beneath me, breathing shallowly, eyes locked on mine. I held his gaze, slipping the fabric down carefully, exposing him inch by inch. He groaned softly when I took him gently in my hand, moving slowly, deliberately, learning his shape, his weight, how he responded to each touch.
“Olivia,” he breathed, voice tight with control. “Slow down, sweetheart. I won’t last.”
“I’m not going anywhere,” I whispered back, smiling softly. “Let me.”
He nodded, trusting me, eyes heavy with desire as I kissed my way back up his body. When our lips met again, he rolled us over gently, positioning himself carefully between my thighs, not pressing yet, just hovering there, our eyes locked.
“Are you sure?” he whispered. Always checking and always giving me the choice.
“Yes,” I breathed. “I’m sure. I want you.”
He entered me slowly, carefully, with infinite tenderness. I felt every moment of him sliding deep inside me, warm, thick, stretching me slowly until he filled me completely. I gasped softly, arching up to meet him, feeling the exquisite friction as he moved within me. Each motion was unhurried, rhythmic, slow enough to feel everything- every sensation, every breath, every quiet moan shared between us.
We moved together, rocking slowly, savoring the closeness, his forehead pressed to mine. His lips brushed my temple, my cheek, my lips, murmuring about how beautiful I was, how perfect we felt together. I felt my body tightening around him, pleasure building slowly, sweetly, until it crested gently, perfectly, shuddering through me in waves.
Jackson groaned softly against my neck, his pace deepening slightly, matching my release with his own. When he came, he held me close, whispering my name, his voice breaking softly into something like reverence.
We stayed that way afterward, tangled and quiet, breathing each other in, my head tucked under his chin. His heartbeat was steady beneath my ear, his hands smoothing gently along my back and down my arms, touching me as though he still couldn’t quite believe I was real.
“I’ve never felt this safe before,” I murmured finally, breaking the quiet.
“Good,” he whispered, lips brushing my forehead. “You deserve to feel safe every day.”
I lifted my head to look at him. “We get to choose what happens next. That’s what matters.”
Jackson smiled, soft and genuine. “Together?”
I smiled back, feeling the deep truth of it. “Together.”
He pulled me tighter into his arms, settling back into the pillows. Sunlight flooded the room, warm, golden, and quiet. For the first time in weeks, sleep came easily, gently pulling me under without fear.
Because this time, I knew exactly who was holding me.
This time, I’d chosen him, and he’d chosen me.
And that choice was everything.
