Chapter 55 Gifts

Chapter 55 Gifts

Genesis's POV

I should have known all along.

Everything Eli gave me was based on his interest in me. Once I annoyed him, he could take it all back at will.

How could people like them have genuine feelings? When he killed the second boss's mistress, he didn't even blink.

"I'm going to school." I told Susan.

Without taking the test, I couldn't get the DMV Visit Receipt to give to school, so I couldn't get leave. I had to attend classes.

I walked toward the door with my head down, but a tall figure blocked my path.

I didn't think much of it, assuming it was some servant, and tried to walk around him.

"Little mute, don't you watch where you're going?"

Someone grabbed my collar from behind. Eli's roguish voice rang out.

My heart felt like someone had squeezed it tight then released it. I immediately looked up in surprise, instinctively grabbing his arm.

Eli smiled mischievously, pulling me into his embrace.

"Yesterday you wouldn't let me near you, but today you're throwing yourself into my arms?" Eli lazily rested his chin on top of my head, holding me tightly.

The joy immediately vanished completely.

I knew it! He definitely knew I cared about this test, so he deliberately delayed until the last moment to appear, just to make me worry and fear.

Then he could put his hands all over me!

He was absolutely terrible!

I pushed him away. "I need to go to school. Let me go."

"Didn't you used to be good at acting obedient? Why such a temper now?" Eli helplessly tapped my forehead. "I had some business to handle this morning. Taking you for the learner's permit test now is still in time."

He took my hand to walk outside, but I panicked and looked around, pulling my hand back.

Eli instantly understood what I was worried about, his expression darkening.

He stared at me with a mocking laugh. "I really have brain problems, finding myself an ancestor."

He jingled the car keys in his hand, signaling me to follow.

I followed behind him, pursing my lips.

He was clearly the one deliberately keeping me hanging, but now he was blaming everything on me. How ridiculous!

But thinking I could finally take the driving test, I couldn't help clenching my fists in a small celebration.

After getting in the car, Eli leaned over and kissed my lips. "I know you're nervous. I'm giving you some courage."

I glared at him irritably. What kind of courage was this? He was clearly just taking advantage!

Fortunately, the test went very smoothly.

When I saw "PASS" on the computer screen, I couldn't help but smile.

I could finally get my license!

I walked out of the testing room with light steps. Eli was waiting in the waiting area.

As soon as he saw me come out, he casually walked over and put his hand on my shoulder.

"Let's go get your Temporary Instruction Permit."

I was somewhat surprised. Did he have that much confidence in me? I signed to him: "How did you know I passed?"

Eli pinched my face. "You care so much about this test. If you failed, could you come out smiling? Besides, you studied so hard you didn't even have time to reply to my messages. How could you fail?"

I understood he was taking this opportunity to complain about me not replying to his messages before. I deliberately played dumb, not picking up his topic, not letting him keep complaining about me.

Eli looked at me playing dumb and snorted.

We quickly finished the paperwork. I asked Eli to take me back to school, but he shook his head and refused.

I looked at him warily. He wouldn't want to take me to some motel, would he?

"What's that look? What kind of image do I have in your mind?" Eli keenly caught my expression and laughed in exasperation.

I innocently shook my head, indicating I didn't have any strange look.

Eli pinched my chin. "Sometimes I'm quite grateful you're a little mute. Otherwise, who knows how many infuriating things would come out of your mouth."

He led me to the car, even thoughtfully fastening my seatbelt.

"It's not time for your leave yet. To celebrate you successfully passing the DMV Learner’s Permit test, I'm taking you somewhere."

Eli's mysterious manner made me even more suspicious he was up to no good. I didn't want to be alone with him!

I immediately signed to him: "This isn't worth celebrating. I want to hurry back to school for classes."

But Eli pressed me down, looking at me seriously. "Stop talking nonsense. We're leaving."

He started the car and drove in the opposite direction from school.

I nervously gripped the seatbelt, constantly rehearsing in my mind how to escape if he wanted to do what he did last time.

Until the car stopped, I was still thinking of escape plans.

Seeing I wasn't moving, Eli helplessly came over to unfasten my seatbelt and took my hand. "Get out, little mute."

Only then did I realize Eli had brought me to a castle.

I was confused. What was this about?

I looked at the magnificent castle before me, puzzled, and asked Eli: "What are we doing here?"

"You must be Miss Genesis? Please come with me." A woman in a professional suit respectfully approached. I looked in the direction she pointed, where a group of staff members were waiting.

I didn't move, but Eli put his hand on my shoulder, pushing me forward.

"I asked Susan last night. She said you've always wanted princess photos, but Savannah wouldn't allow it." Eli's face showed a proud smile. "What they won't give you, I will."

I lowered my head, hazily remembering the envy I felt that year watching Maria's princess photo shoot, but Savannah's slap left my mouth full of blood.

She said at such a young age I was already learning from my mistress mother, wanting to wear pretty clothes and take pretty pictures to seduce men! That night I argued back, saying my mother wasn't a mistress, and for the first time she beat me with an iron rod until my skin split open.

All these years, I'd never had any photos except the one on my student ID.

Eli took my cold hand, pulling me forward. "Don't worry. Today you'll be the most beautiful princess."
