Chapter 29 Faced with Threats
Genesis's POV
After finishing my conversation with Forth, the last trace of gloom in my heart was cleared away.
Near the end of school, the history teacher tell us.
"we'll be holding a Class Trip to a City in one week. Those who want to sign up, please come to me to get the Permission Slip."
At this moment, Forth squeezed over, his tone excited. "This time the destination is San Aurelia! Walton University is there! I definitely want to go see it. Are you going?"
I hesitated and lowered my head, staring at the paper in a daze.
Since being adopted by the Martinez family, I had always lived in Valleria City. Every inch of this city was under the Martinez family's control. Once I privately opened a savings account, they would definitely discover it.
But if I wanted to break away from the Martinez family to study abroad, I had to have a savings card they couldn't monitor.
Whether it was the money I had saved before or the compensation from Sofia's family this time, I had to deposit it all into that card.
In that case, this Class Trip would be my best opportunity.
While I was thinking, Forth waved his hand in front of me. "What are you thinking about? Didn't you always say you wanted to apply to Walton University? We can go together!"
He sat down beside me and began talking about Walton University's various advantages.
The more I listened, the more something felt off. I interrupted him in surprise. \[Aren't you planning to get recruited directly? How do you know so much about their admission policies?\]
Forth froze, then smiled embarrassedly. "Actually, I heard you also wanted to apply to Walton University, so I specifically had my family collect related information."
I hadn't expected him to do so much preparation work for me. The look I gave him carried a few traces of guilt.
Actually, I had deceived him from the beginning, deceived everyone.
From start to finish, I never intended to apply to domestic schools. All my ideal schools were abroad. I just wanted to get far away from the Martinez family.
I had planned long ago to pretend to apply to Walton University, then change to the school I really wanted to attend at the last moment of application submission.
This was my biggest secret. Even to Forth, I would never reveal it.
"How about it? Are you going?" Forth looked at me with expectant eyes, like he was inviting a playmate.
I hesitated for a moment. To make up for deceiving him, I still nodded. \[I'll go.\]
"Great!" Forth cheered, almost lifting me up.
I quickly pushed him away. The rumors about Forth and me were already spreading everywhere. If we hugged now, it would really be impossible to explain.
Only then did Forth realize his actions were somewhat inappropriate. He scratched his head awkwardly. "Sorry, I was too excited."
Looking at Forth like this, the guilt in my heart grew heavier. I waved my hand to indicate it was fine.
After school, I stood at the bus stop waiting for the bus. When Maria passed by in the family car, she disdainfully rolled down the window. "Didn't you earn a car by getting beaten up? Why are you still waiting for the bus? Don't tell me you're deliberately making others think we're abusing you?"
I shook my head and typed on my phone. \[I don't have a driver's license. I can't drive.\]
Maria snorted coldly and muttered a curse. "Waste."
She closed the window and sped away. Only then did I breathe a sigh of relief.
Actually, I had sold that car the day I got it. I couldn't drive anyway, and for me now, having cash in hand was more practical.
If Maria knew about this, she might cause some new trouble.
Because of this episode, I temporarily forgot my worries. It wasn't until I returned to the Martinez family villa that I belatedly remembered.
No one would help me sign the Permission Slip.
Since Eli killed Henry's deputy, the family had indeed been in chaos for a while, then temporarily stabilized under Eli's strong suppression.
But for Christian, this was definitely bad news.
The originally relatively balanced situation was broken. Eli appeared before everyone with an absolutely dominant attitude, becoming a strong competitor for inheritance rights.
Even though Christian had always presented himself as a nice guy, he was starting to get anxious now, busy showing himself off in front of Jordan every day. He wouldn't have time to care about me.
And Savannah was even more out of the question. I still remembered when I was little, I once asked her to sign something. Savannah pushed me to the ground and coldly told me I wasn't her child and she would never sign anything for me.
I stood at the villa entrance and laughed mockingly. In the huge Martinez villa, there wasn't a single person who could help me sign.
"What are you standing at the door laughing about by yourself?"
Just then, Eli appeared from somewhere and slapped my back without any courtesy.
The sad emotions I had just developed were scattered by his unintentional action.
I originally wanted to use sign language, but remembering Eli's disgusted expression every time I signed, I obediently took out my phone. \[Are your injuries better?\]
This was the first time I'd seen him since we separated from the detention room that day. Seeing him dressed flashily in motorcycle gear, he should be fine.
Eli pinched my face. "You heartless little mute, only now you think of me?"
I helplessly pushed away his hand. Family missions were always confidential. How could I possibly know his whereabouts?
Not to mention, he never had the habit of explaining his whereabouts to others. Even if I wanted to inquire, I wouldn't have the chance.
\[I was always worried about you.\]
I looked at him sincerely and blinked. Eli looked at the words on my phone and suddenly smiled.
"Don't think I don't know. Eight out of ten sentences you type on this phone are insincere." Eli's fingertip lightly tapped my chest. "You're probably criticizing me in your heart right now."
I uncomfortably stepped back, my gaze wandering, not responding to his words.
Fortunately, Eli didn't expect my answer and continued. "Those minor injuries healed long ago. You think everyone is like you, getting a fever from just a little wind, and crying non-stop. The crying was so annoying."
I suddenly looked up, studying him carefully.
We hadn't seen each other since I left the detention room that day. How did he know I cried when I had a fever?
Recalling my hazy feelings that day, could it not have been a dream?
I quickly took out my phone from my pocket. \[How do you know I cried when I had a fever? Was it you that night?\]
