Chapter 182

Ruby’s POV

‘’No… no, no!!’’ I gasped, struggling hard against the shadow cloak that held me pinned to the dirt. I called upon my flames, feeling the thick material heating up, but it wasn’t burning away as fast as I wanted it to. I watched in total horror as Zefer reached down and pulled Thane up into the air with just his left hand. Thane still had that gaping hole in his chest from earlier and I watched as Zefer’s hand suddenly dug into Thane’s chest with a flash of dark energy, pulling out Thane's heart and crushing it right there. Thane’s body went completely still with his head rolling back, and his shadow evaporated into a black mist that Zefer sucked in to now merge with his own as he grinned.

‘’Nooooooooooooo!!!’’ Pain radiated through my entire being, a scream tearing out of me that didn't even sound human. With a massive desperate blast of energy, the shadow cloak was sent flying into bits as I rushed to my feet. Rainbow scales began popping up on my face and arms, and my nails grew into claws. I held balls of pure red-hot flame in my hands as I rushed at Zefer with everything I had left. I blasted him again and again, the hits landing with a force that sent him skidding back across the dirt.

‘’Arrrrhhh!!’’ he growled out loud, his eyes flashing as he rushed back at me with a force that shook the very earth beneath us. He dodged out of the way of my flames with speed I and before I could strike again, shadows came bursting out of the floor and hooked my limbs, suspending me in the air in a flash.

‘’I’ll kill you!’’ I growled, struggling in the shadow's grasp like a spider caught in a web, but there was no moving. The more I fought, the tighter the shadows pulled.

‘’No, I would be killing you and taking over the world. I must say, I never knew a day would come where I would see a weak rainbow dragon just like you. Victory was almost too easy,’’ Zefer said. He moved to pick up the black crystal from where I’d dropped it and then came to stand right in front of me. Without wasting another second, his hand went digging deep into my chest, looking for the core.

‘’ArRRRRhhhh!!!’’ Blinding, black pain slapped through me, and then everything went dark. Suddenly, I wasn't on the battlefield anymore. I was in that place filled with ice and that big, lonely tree in the distance. A figure I knew well was standing there, looking at me with wide eyes. ‘’Auxoria?’’ I whispered, wondering how the hell I got back here.

‘’How the hell are you here again? Don’t tell me you are dying?!’’ Auxoria immediately gasped as she rushed towards me. Her hands fell on my shoulders, shaking me in total disbelief. ‘’You are so motherfucking stronger than me by ten, and you are dying again? If you lose your core, you will be dead dead!’’ She was panicking with her voice rising, but I just pushed her off me weakly. 

‘’Thane is dead, my father is dead… Lucas is injured and we are losing the fight. The shadow is just too strong… I don’t want to do this anymore…’’ I whispered, falling to the ground as tears streaked down my face. I hated everything. I wanted it all to just stop.

‘’Thane can’t die… he is immortal too since his real mother is a daughter to Lucifer. He is part demon Ruby. His mother wouldn’t let him die. You can always heal Lucas, and I’m sorry for your dad… but you still have people to fight for… your child…’’ Auxoria’s words trailed off, and that was when it finally registered. I was pregnant. That was what Ash had seen, and even the little child in the spirit dragon realm.

‘’Even if I wanted to fight, how do I kill Zefer?’’ I asked, my eyes suddenly sharpening as the fog in my head cleared.

‘’Oh, him? The one who took over the throne? There is something you haven't figured out yet, Ruby. We are rainbow dragons for a reason. We are light and they are darkness. To kill him, you just have to give him some light in his miserable life.’’ Auxoria ended just as a blinding white light filled my eyes and I was sucked right out of that icy place.

‘’It is time! Hahahahhahah!!’’ Zefer laughed evilly back in the real world. I looked down through the agonizing pain to see rainbow colors spilling right out of my chest, and I noticed his hand was melting as he held on to the core. He was literally disintegrating from the touch.

‘’Since you want the rainbow core so bad… I’ll give it to you,’’ I murmured coldly. My limp hands raised up as I willed my flames to life. This time they weren't red…they were glowing brilliant rainbows. I watched his eyes widen in pure terror as my hands struck his chest, willing my light to seep through his pores and into his very skin.

‘’ArRRRRRRRRRRrhhh uuurgrggg!!!’’ he growled out loud, his body shaking the ground as it began to crack open. Light was seeping through the gaps in his skin like he was a broken tiles. His hold on me released and he fell to his knees before finally going out with a massive blast. The explosion continued far and wide, shredding the rest of the shadow armies into pieces with a resounding boom that cleared the sky.

I fell to my knees, feeling completely drained as I watched the light slowly seep through the darkened clouds. But my eyes were only fixed on Thane’s body lying in the distance. With all the strength I had left, I crawled toward him on my hands and knees, praying that Auxoria was right. 

When I got to him, his eyes were still opened and blank, but I noticed black runes slowly spreading out on his body. Suddenly, he burst into a blue flame I recognized to be hell’s fire. I moved back quickly from the heat of it as I watched it cover Thane’s body from head to toe. Soon the flames died off slowly, followed by the sound of a heavy cough breaking through the night.

And I could finally breathe again.

‘’Ruby...’’ My name left his mouth immediately his eyes snapped open and he sat up as his eyes searched the area around him for me until they landed on my face. I didn't even know when the tears started falling like a dam out of my eyes, but I didn't care. I just lunged for him, falling into his hold and holding on tight as the sun finally started to peek over the horizon.

Thane and Ruby went on to build a home in their dream location and had three more kids. Their son in the dragon spirit finally formed a real body, Lucas finally received the call of his mate, and they all lived happily ever after.
