CHAPTER 50
When we arrived in Veritas, people were looking at the Khalifa Group's limousine service. If the people were surprised by the passing limousine, they were even more surprised when a provincial woman they had despised got out.
I don't want to brag about how nice it feels like they look up to me, like I'm a very important person. I just shook my head as I followed Amir into the hotel. It's a good thing that I brought extra clothes because it would be difficult if the applicants discovered that I had performed a miracle while on the trip.
"You look like a devastated vegetable," I criticized Amir as he lay in the room that was taken for the two of us to use.
"Because you," he blamed me.
"And now I'm the one to blame? Next time, you should be ready before you challenge me to an overnight lovemaking session." I said.
"Wait, I've heard that word before. Please explain what that is?" He was confused by what I said.
"Don't, you might get triggered again. All right, sleep there first. I'm just going to shower for a while because the job fair starts in thirty minutes," I told him.
"Why do you need to shower?" Amir asked.
"Well, is it even necessary to ask that? Of course I smell like a man," I answered him. "Do you want them to know that we did something earlier?" I asked him.
"Go ahead, take a shower." Amir said.
When I went down to the lobby where the job fair was held, I felt all eyes on me. I just feel that maybe because most of the applicants are fresh graduates. Only a few have mature experience in the industry.
"What is it?" I asked Rhea as he approached me but hesitated to speak.
"He's here," said Rhea.
My brow furrowed and I was a little irritated with the girl because she was too quiet. Just wanted to tell you something, won't say it right away. "Who?" I asked him.
"Brent," said Rhea.
"WHAT?" I was not impressed by what Rhea told me. "Why is he here?" I asked the woman.
"Applicant," said Rhea.
"Applicant for what?" I was confused by the course of events.
"Manager," said Rhea.
"Manager? Is he qualified?" Brent did not even mention that he had experience at the hotel.
"Here," Rhea gave me a copy of Brent's resume and when I read it I couldn't say anything. The hotel, which was Brent's former employer before he returned to the Philippines, is not a casual hotel either.
"Is there another applicant for the position Brent applied for?" I asked Rhea because I didn't want to hire that bastard.
"Unfortunately there is no one else," replied Rhea. "Because the LGU also did a screening so that we don't waste our time," said Rhea.
"Is that so? Alright, I'll talk to Amir about this first," I said to Rhea. When I came to Brent, I had to say goodbye to Amir first. Because I don't want my ex-boyfriend to cause us to argue anymore.
As I was going to the room occupied by Amir, I was really nervous. There is a fear in my heart that that man might be triggered again and the pain in his body will increase.
Amir was still asleep when I entered. I looked up as I watched him sleep. Even snoring makes me feel excited. I just shook my head as I stood up to adjust the AC thermostat.
"You're here first," he said and I was surprised because it turned out that the boy was already awake. It didn't even speak earlier when I came in and pretended to be asleep.
"So you just pretended to be asleep?" I asked him and when the man nodded, I immediately pinched his side. Amir screamed like a child but he couldn't do anything else. "You really belong together!" I pretended to be angry but of course I wasn't angry with him. I think it's really normal for us that when we love someone, we don't get angry easily. Just pretend to be bored to love.
"Did you miss me so you came back here?" Amir smiled as he asked, while I was restless because I didn't know how to start.
"Hmmm what's the matter, Brent is in the lobby." I told him and I suspected correctly that he would not like Brent going to Khalifa. The man immediately frowned and gave me a bad look.
"Did you talk about meeting here?" His eyes narrowed as he asked me, and of course I was immediately offended by the way he looked at me.
I feel because he thought that I was planning to get back with that man. "Did you think I contacted him to come here?" I asked him. "Anyway, if you don't answer, I might just know that you don't really trust me. He applied as a manager," I told him what I learned from Rhea.
His forehead furrowed even more so the wrinkles on his forehead increased. "As what?" He asked what position Brent had applied for.
"Manager," I said.
"That man is really hoping! Does he know that you are connected to HR?"
I nodded in response to his question. "Yes," I said.
"Oh, that's right. He wants to enter the Khalifa to see you all the time! I'll just change my clothes and we'll go down together," he told me.
"No! Do you want to get hurt again? You stay here and I'll take care of talking to him," I refused to let him come down because I was afraid that there might be trouble down the line. Especially and there was a look on the two men.
"I will help you with the final interview," he said.
"Really?" I asked him and when he didn't answer right away, I really doubted that Amir Khalifa had other plans. "Don't go ahead with whatever you plan to do now," I reminded him. Of course, Brent is somehow better known in the city of Veritas.
"Are you afraid that I will beat your ex?"
I don't know how many times my eyes blinked because of what I heard. "Is that a joke?" I asked him because he might have forgotten that we had just come from the hospital and that the injury sustained in his last fight with Brent was not even okay.
"I was just off-balance before," Amir blurted out.
I know that Amir is not above that, so when it comes to Brent, he is at a disadvantage, eh. So hopefully the man will realize that he shouldn't provoke Brent too much and maybe we will go back to the hospital. What a hassle! "Yes, but I'll just take care of the chin. If you really want to help, just sit next to me so I can always be inspired." I said.
"You're really bad, Jamie. You still have plans to make me a teddy, huh." He complained.
"Just don't think too much about Brent. If he applied for a job, it was probably because he needed an income." I explained to Brent. "Here's a copy of his resume," and I gave him Brent's resume. When the man frowned again, I was no longer surprised.
"So, he's from Kimberly's hotel." Amir said.
"Kimberly's hotel? Where? In the US?" I was totally shocked because I had no idea that Sam's ex was so rich!
"Yes," was Amir's short answer.
