Chapter 68 Chapter Sixty- Eight

Keira

Mooncrest still felt, and looked exactly how I last saw it. I mean, it wasn't like I was expecting it to change so much after four to five months.

The car screeched to a stop, and the driver announced our arrival.Exhaling sharply, I climbed down, closed my eyes, and inhaled the calm air outside.
One that was sure to get tainted the moment I enter inside, and meet the witch, and her son.

“Keira.” I turned around sharply.

Damien was standing on the castle stairs, a huge smile marred his facial features as he descended to meet me where I was standing with my arms crossed against each other.

I frowned when he reached where I stood. “Has four months made you think I am no longer worthy to be called an Alpha?”

“Oh,” He chuckled softly. “Of course not, Alpha Keira.” he bowed a little. “Welcome back.”

“I heard you called Kaelan behind my back,” I inched away from his outstretched palm which gestured his intention to walk me into the castle. “I didn't hear from you after you personally came to report your findings about your wife's misconduct, the next I hear is that you called my husband instead of me. Nice.”

“My apologies, Alpha.” He murmured while I simply shook my head without saying a word.I was just acting pissed off which was totally unnecessary.

What would it take out of my hair if Damien called Kaelan instead of me? Of course, it was because I didn't want to leave Shadowmoon yet.

I had a lot of unfinished business there. I know it was none of my business, but let's say it was all out of curiosity. I just wanted to know who the spy Cassandra talked about was going to be.

My main suspect for the time being was doctor Lustre, but then again, it might turned out not to be her. Everything just felt connected which made it all the more confusing.

Kaelan's battle felt like a battle of revenge, one that was filled with a deep grudge. Who could be the person behind all of this? The curiosity was eating me deep, but now, there was nothing I could do.

Fighting a battle that I know nothing about, one that wasn't mine, and to think I would now have to do it from afar was quite a silly thing to do. But well... Taking on challenges was one of my thing.

“Well well well–” I stopped right on my track, and sighed. Did I really have to meet with the witch now? “If it isn't our dear Alpha Keira.”

I watched her with a bored expression as she descended down the stairs, her hair swayed with each step she took down the stairs.“It's been quite–is it months, or has it been a year already?”

She was smiling hard. Obviously. She was forcing herself to do that which was totally unnecessary. It was only Damien, and I.
What was with the false show of happiness? I scoffed.

I was beginning to like being back. Don't get the wrong idea though, it wasn't like I didn't want to be back at all.

Other than I wanted to help Kaelan to get the root of his problems, I wanted to take a break from Marienne.
Anyways, now that I am back, it was time to show Mooncrest pack I could be the Alpha they wanted. It wasn't going to be easy, but it would be after Marienne was no longer in the picture.

“You certainly don't look happy to see me, Marienne. If anything, you want me dead.” I leaned forward, taking my mouth to her ears. “Trying so hard to smile makes you look like a hairless vulture, so quit it, and pour your heart out. Who knows, I might be kind enough to lend you my napkin.”

“I don't take people who insults me lightly.” She growled.

I chuckled. “Or what? It's not like I was lying. We both know that's the case. So quit the fake love, and show the hate in your heart.”

She snorted. “You should be glad I tried to show some fake love first. I was really hoping we could be real good friends, but since you don't want that, I hope we would kill each other.”

“Your last two lines convinced me this is the Marienne I know.” I straightened back to my full height. “Nice to know you like me back here.”

She glared at me.“Or not. Four months is definitely a a long time for you to become an Alpha. Were you having a tough time killing your husband, or you simply lost interest?” She was about to retort, but I cut her halfway. “I don't think I should have said the latter.”

I advanced forward with only a step. “Don't tell me it was hard for you to kill him.”

“Shut up, Keira.” She blanched.I laughed at the redness on her face. “It's not like you love him anyway, stop pretending already, it really doesn't suit you.”

“Keira, don't fucking allow me–”
“I would have loved to be your audience, but I am really tired, I need to take a rest. Your chirping is beginning to make me develop a terrible migraine.”

Her mouth dropped open, but words refused to come out. Glancing a little over my head, I said to Damien. “Let's go.”

We were halfway up the stairs when I stopped. I turned around, wagging my middle finger around. “Marienne.” She turned to me. The glare was still there. “I am an Alpha for a reason. I don't think I can forgive too many times.”

Without waiting for her response, I whirled around, and continued walking.“Fill me in on the things that happened while I was away.” I said to Damien after I was sure I was back in control of my anger.

“Not about your wife,” I added quickly. “I meant the pack affairs.”

“Oh, sure, Alpha Keira.”“As you know, not every one of the pack members like, or rather are in support of you bring on the throne as the Alpha. Most of think a woman shouldn't rule.”

I scoffed. “So, Marienne's son who isn't the direct heir should sit there instead?”
“I didn't mean to degrade you, if that's what you are thinking.” I quickly defended myself

“It's fine.” He simply said. “I would feel the same too if I were in your shoes, so don't feel bad for your choice of words.”
We got to my room. I stepped back, and allowed him help me opened the door.

I frowned when he pricked his index finger, and allowed his blood drop on the door knob. Since when was blood a key to locked doors?

“I left the door locked since the moment you were taken to Shadowmoon pack.” he said, and I reined on my confused thoughts for the moment.

“Thank you,” My voice was a low sound. I cleared my throat. “But I don't see how that add up to the fact that you are using your blood to open my door.”

He laughed. “A secret of Mooncrest pack royalty. For now, I am the only man left who knows how to use it to my gain. And here...” He gestured to the door which creaked a little tiredly. “It's opened.” He said like I couldn't see for myself.

“Mind explaining why your blood was needed first before it'd lock?” I eyed him. I stood still, and refused to move an inch inside.“I actually don't trust my wife, she did it once, she would definitely want to try it again, she is that sort of person.”

“And did you not tell her the kind of person I am?”

“There is no use telling her, she has long allowed greed to swallow her, of what use do you think my advice would be?”

I shrugged. “She is your wife after all.” I finally walked inside. My heart almost flew to my chest when I saw Kaelan sitting on my bed, picking at his fingers.

I turned to Damien with a scoff, “So much for protecting my room while I was away.”“Well, I–”“No, no, no. There is no need for that, leave us for now.”

“Sure.” He said before ducking a bow at the both of us.

“And what are you doing here?”I turned back once the door closed behind Damien with a click sound. “Did you not say I should return? I can't believe you have begun to miss me already.” My steps were slow as I moved towards my bed where he sat looking at me with a soft expression on his face.

“Can I no longer come visit my wife anymore?”

“Not when it's been less than twenty four hours since I left the castle, that can't be a valid reason.”

“One second away from you is pure hell Keira, much less going minutes, hours, days, weeks without seeing you.”

“And yet, you asked me to leave.” I lowered my butt beside him, he was quick in lifting me up, and making me sit on his legs while facing him. He spread my legs apart so I would balance well.

“Do you really want me to believe you are missing me?Tell me Kaelan,” I wrapped my hands around his neck. “What is the real reason why you asked me to leave?”
“Is there any other reason?”

“I really hate when my question is being counter with a question.” My fingers moved up his hair threading his hair in between my fingers. “There is a reason why you asked me to leave, right?”

“I know that I have a fight here with Marienne, and anyone who decided to support her, and her son against me, but come on, there's still time to deal with them. So I am ticking that reason off the plate. What is the main reason why you don't want me there anymore?”

“If you badly want an answer,” A shiver rolled down my spine when his fingers trailed a light line down my bare arm. “You should tell me what you are hiding from me too.”

“Are you admitting there is a reason?” He stopped moving his finger, and looked at me instead. “Don't try to change the topic, Keira.”

“I never did.” I said with a shrug. “I told you already–”

“Did she not mention anything concerning spies?”My words froze on the tip on my tongue.

Spies? The fuck did Kaelan find out?
“So it's true then.” I heard him murmur, suddenly back in control of my brain.

I blinked back nothing, and was about to say something when he continued talking, and I had to keep my words to myself until he was done.

“I know I don't take it easy with anyone who dared to spy on my pack, worse still if the spy was sent to assassinate me. However, this time, after Ryan told me all there was to know, I really hoped it wouldn't be the case. I don't trust anyone, but believe me when I say I always hope none of them would betray me.”

“So... Your questioning me now about Cassandra talking to me about the existence of spies in the castle was simply your doing, I guess.”

“It still doesn't change the fact that you tried to hide something crucial away from me.” He resumed moving his finger up and down my arm.

“I didn't want to in the first place, it's just that I didn't trust her words. I–I didn't want to endanger the whole of your pack, you included. That was why I decided to keep it to myself as I tried to find out if her words were true.”

“Does that mean you don't trust me well enough to tell me?”

“It's not like I don't–” Whatever words were about to roll out of my tongue, the moment our lips touched, I forgot all of it.Wrapping my hands tight around him, I leaned into the kiss nibbling, and sucking his lips to my heart content.

“Were you worried that she might be trying to set you up?” He asked after pulling away from the kiss. “So, you tried to investigate further?”

I didn't respond right away. “And that was why the suspicious eyes you have for Lustre increased because you feel she fits in well to be the spy. Am I correct?”
