Chapter 187 I've already bought the company
Rhys's POV

“Mandy, what's that supposed to mean?” I asked again when she didn't say anything after a few seconds.

“I've already bought the company. You don't have to bother.” She replied, hanging up the next second.

I stared at the phone for a few seconds before putting it into my pocket, a lot of things weren't making sense anymore.

“She hasn't bought any company. It's still stated in most of the top news that Voss’s corporation was facing liquidation.” Mark said, walking towards me. “She probably just has a plan up her sleeves.”

My grip on the envelope tightened. “Are you sure about that?”

“They had been having issues for a long time in the online space. I won't say I'm sure without evidence or the company’s statement but I can boldly say she wants his company but hasn't gotten access.” Mark explained.

I blinked slowly, the argument between her and Zane flashing through my mind. Anger surged through my heart. I turned and stormed straight into the main building.

But just as I reached for the door knob, the door opened and Vanessa stepped out. Her face lit up immediately she saw but that only irritated me.

“Rhys, it's really you. I thought my ears were deceiving me when I heard your car drive in.” She gushed in one breath.

I brushed past her. “Don't act like we are acquainted.”

“But we are step siblings.” She pointed out.

I shot her a cold glare. “I don't have a sibling.”

“Are you sure you aren't mistaken, young lady?” Mark added, walking into the living area.

“Hi, Mark. It's been a long—”

“Do I know you?” Mark cut her off sharply.

“You're back, Rhys. I made dinner.” Vanessa's mother's voice cut through the air. She turned towards Mark. “He must be your friend, right?”

Mark stepped forward, stretching out his hand. “I'm his brother, Mark.”

Vanessa's mother forced out a smile, taking his hand. “I'm his step mother.”

The words had barely left her lips when Mark pulled out his hand from her grip. He walked next to me, wiping his hand on his jacket.

“Rhys, you didn't tell me she was your step mother. I thought she was your caretaker.” He whispered.

I snorted. “Didn't you see their resemblance?”

Mark glanced from Vanessa to her mother and back to Vanessa. “They really look alike.”

“Mark, I know you don't like me but that isn't the right way to treat my mother. She didn't do anything to you to deserve that nasty attitude.” Vanessa said, her voice heavy with anger and pain.

“Right way? Nasty attitude?” Mark repeated. “Do you even understand what that means?”

Vanessa pressed her lips together but didn't say a word.

“Thank goodness you don't, so please don't use them.” Mark advised her.

I folded my arm on my chest and watched them without a word, forgetting for a second while I was here.

“You are really his brother. What a great personality you have!” My father's voice cut through the next second.

Mark turned towards my father but I stepped forward before he could say anything.

“Father, I'm back to talk about the envelope's contents.”

My father glanced from me to Mark. “Aren't you going to introduce me to your brother? But I'm curious how I suddenly had a second son.”

“I'm busy, Father. If you are also busy, I can come back another day.” I said, turning my back on him.

“What's your decision, then?” He asked before I could take a step forward.

I turned sharply to face him. “Why did you hand me this envelope?”

He hesitated for half a second. “Let's talk in my office. Alone!” He was already walking towards his office before I could blink.

I turned towards Mark. “I wouldn't be long.” I didn't wait for his response before going after my father.

“You must have found my offer so tempting for denial right?” He asked the instant we got into his office.

“Father, why didn't you want to talk about it downstairs? Don't you love and trust your wife?” I taunted, ignoring his question completely.

He spared me a brief glance before chuckling. “I don't why I don't get angry with your nasty attitude. You remind me of someone I had almost forgotten.”

“Spare me all that.” I hissed, my voice cold. I already knew what he was going to say next. That I remind him of himself when he was young. He had said that to me countless times that I already lost count and it got under my skin each time.

I couldn't be him. I would never be him so he should keep whatever remembrance he gets to himself.

Silence thickened in the air for a while.

“Did you sign the documents?” My father asked.

“Why did you give me the job? I asked for a loan and not a position. When did you become this generous?” I demanded.

He snickered. “I have only one son so what do you think?”

“So you want me to learn the basis of your company and then… take over from you?” I asked, the words sounding so absurd in my ears.

He went straight to his wine cellar and brought out two glasses just like the last time. “Which wine do you drink?”

“Ignoring me wouldn't work, Father.” I spat and just then, the DNA test report flashed through my mind. “I remember having a younger brother. You should try your luck on him.”

“I'll pour you a glass of vodka. You're an adult anyway.” He said, flatly.

I clenched my jaw, hating how nonchalant he was. He had always been this nonchalant and that was why he hated him so much.

My father walked towards me a few seconds later and extended a half filled glass of vodka towards me.

I pushed the glass away in rage and it shattered the instant it touched the floor. “I just talked about my younger brother. Don't you even care to know how he's doing?”

“Do you want to know how he's doing?” He asked, staring dead into my eyes. “Do you even still acknowledge him as your brother?”
