Chapter 181 Your lab result is ready
Chapter 181 Your lab result is ready
Rhys's POV
I turned sharply to face him. “What's that supposed to mean?”
“It means we are—”
“Zane!” Mandy's voice cut him off sharply from behind.
I grabbed his hand before he could turn away. “What were you going to say?”
He stared from my hand holding his to my face before letting out a low chuckle. “Are you that desperate to be my brother?”
“It's quite the opposite.” I hissed, letting go of his hand. “I just want to be certain.”
“Are you sure? This is the first time you're holding my hand… and talking to me with a calm voice.” He whispered, leaning closer.
I shoved him away hard. “Don't get delusional, Zane.”
I refused to think about the possibility of us being siblings. But there was something different in his voice today and his eyes were kind of swollen.
He regarded me thoughtfully for half a second before pulling out two strands of hair from his hair.
“You can go do the test if you are that desperate to know.” He said, placing his hair on my hand.
He turned away before I could say anything and disappeared into the busy hallway. My hand tightened around the hair. I inhaled deeply and pushed open the door.
Clare still lay numb on the bed and the doctor from yesterday stood next to her. “Doctor, how is she?”
The doctor scanned me for half a second before shifting his gaze back to Clare.
“Doctor, I know you don't know me but I'm her boyfriend. You can explain her condition to me.” I said, approaching the doctor.
“She should be awake in the next three hours so let's talk then.” The doctor didn't glance at me.
“Three hours,” I repeated under my breath, glancing down on my wrist watch. The time was just a few minutes past seven.
The doctor finalized his check up and walked out of the room without sparing me another glance. I waited till he was out of the room before walking towards Clare's bed.
My heart dropped into my stomach when I saw her face. It was pale and red like she was barely alive.
I put Zane's hair into Jean's pocket before walking into the rest room. I fetched some water into a bowl and took a clean towel before returning to the room.
I swallowed hard and lowered myself next to her, placing the bowl on the bedstand. Slowly, I began wiping her face. I had never done this before but I had watched movies where it was done so it wasn't that hard.
When I was done, her face looked much better. I moved to her hand and wiped it clean before wiping her feet.
By the time I was finally done, she was looking much better. I took the bowel back to the rest room and washed my hands clean.
I returned to the room and sat next to her before taking her hand.
“Hang in there, Clare. I'll be sure to save you.” I whispered.
I gave her hand a gentle squeeze before tucking her hand under the duvet.
I got back to my feet and spared her one last glance before walking out of the room. I walked straight to the lab room.
“How may I help you?” A woman asked, she should probably be in her twenties or so and I didn't miss the way she blinked seductively at me.
But that was the least of my problems.
“I want to do a DNa test.” I replied.
“DNA test? Do you have a child? Is your ex trying to use a child to tie you down?” She asked in one breath.
I shot a glare. “Do I really need to answer that?”
“Susan, what are you doing there?” A sharp voice came from behind.
Susan rolled her eyes. “You don't need to answer it and you're such a turn off.”
She turned around before I could blink and walked back into the room.
I shook my head. “You must meet insane people at every point in life.”
I walked further into the office and straight to a middle aged woman behind a desk. “I want to do a DNA test.”
The woman sized me up for half a second. “Samples.”
I brought out Zane's hair strands from my pocket and plucked out two more hair strands from my hair before handing it all to the woman.
“Come back in thirty minutes.” The woman said, turning her back on me. “You're ID is 324.”
I nodded before walking out of the lab. I had barely made it out of the lab when my phone rang. I wasn't surprised when I brought it out and found the caller to be Mark.
“Where the heck are you, Rhys?” He yelled, the moment the phone connected.
Thankfully, I hadn't placed the phone on my ear as his phone could have burst my ear drum.
“At the hospital.”
“At the hospital?” He repeated, anger edged in tone. “You went to see Clare without me? What did I tell you last night?”
“Check your phone, I sent you a message.” I said, tucking my hand into my pocket.
“A message? Did I ask you to leave me one? I said you should wake me up. Do you know why? I wanted to see Clare and also talk to your father.” He shouted in one breath.
“I did wake you up but you are quite the sleeper.” I reminded him.
Silence stretched for half a second.
“So you are still in the hospital right?” He asked.
“Yes. But you don't have to bother coming.” The line went dead before I could finish talking and I knew he must already be on his way.
I glanced back at the lab. The last thing I wanted was for him to come here and find out the DNA test stuff with Zane. I would still explain it to him but right now, I didn't want him involved.
I was about putti
ng my phone back into my pocket when the woman's voice came again. “Patient 324, your lab result is ready.”
