Chapter 126 There Are Some Clues Now

After Jonathan spent several nerve-wracking days, Caroline still told Grace everything.

"Jonathan, I suggest you stop wasting your energy," Grace said, cutting straight to the point.

"If the situation were reversed—if I'd cheated and gotten pregnant with someone else's child—I doubt you'd show me any mercy. You'd be rushing to divorce me."

"I feel the same way. I'm determined to get this divorce. If you're smart, we'll go through the normal divorce process. Otherwise, we'll see each other in court."

"Impossible!" Jonathan refused, enunciating each word. "What court? I will never divorce you."

"I just made a small mistake. What man hasn't? Besides, if you hadn't schemed against me behind my back, would I have ended up like this?"

"I schemed against you?" Grace nearly laughed in anger. "Jonathan, put your hand on your heart and ask yourself—how much did you like Caroline back then, and how much did you despise me? I don't know why you changed your mind later, but everything between you and Caroline actually happened. If it weren't for me, you would have married her successfully. How can you call that a setup?"

"I'm talking about what happened a few days ago," Jonathan shouted coldly. "Don't bring up the past. What's done is done."

"But you're tainted now."

Grace spread her hands, her expression helpless.

"I don't want a tainted man. After all, I don't have a habit of picking up trash. I don't need to waste any more words on you. Since you won't agree to divorce, go explain yourself to the judge in court."

Grace turned to leave, but Jonathan grabbed her again. "Are you really this heartless? Won't you give me even one chance?"

"You're the one not giving yourself a chance."

Grace's eyes filled with pity.

"Jonathan, even at this point, you still don't understand why I insist on divorcing you. Sometimes I think you're quite pathetic."

She raised her hand to check the time. "I have other matters to handle. I don't have time to waste here with you."

"You should go comfort Caroline instead. I imagine she's looking all over for you right now. After all, she's carrying your child. Don't be too harsh with her."

"Mr. Lester, you can leave now."

Michael approached and positioned himself precisely in front of Grace.

Though he'd kept his distance earlier, their argument had been loud enough for him to hear everything.

He had to admire Jonathan's shamelessness.

Despite being the one at fault, he still had the nerve to try winning Grace back.

Did he think that no matter what he did wrong, Grace would forgive him unconditionally?

He was delusional.

"Michael, let's go eat."

Grace casually linked her arm through Michael's right in front of Jonathan. "I heard there's a new restaurant near the institute with excellent reviews. Let's try it."

"Sounds good."

Michael smiled broadly, his gaze falling on Grace's hand on his arm, satisfaction flickering in his eyes.

These past days, Grace had been busy with work and personal matters, largely ignoring him. Michael hadn't wanted to say anything that might distract her.

But today Grace was being proactive. His companionship during this period had clearly paid off.

Perhaps he should formally confess his feelings? Find an opportunity to be with Grace, so she and Jonathan would have no chance of reconciliation.

The two turned and walked away.

Jonathan watched helplessly from behind, his body weak, nearly collapsing to the ground.

How could Grace so brazenly walk past him arm-in-arm with another man, completely disregarding his feelings?

She was too cruel.

"I won't divorce you!" Jonathan suddenly roared. "I absolutely won't divorce you! Nothing can tear us apart! Nothing!"

Grace heard him clearly, but she didn't pause for even a moment, continuing forward while chatting and laughing with Michael, completely unaffected.

Jonathan's face turned ashen.

Though he'd shouted loudly, he felt no confidence whatsoever.

Because now he not only had to deal with Grace, but also solve the massive problem that was Caroline.

That woman was terrifying when she lost control. Being entangled with her was a death sentence.

Should he return home?

The thought barely formed before Jonathan shook his head.

Returning home would indeed allow him to escape Caroline's harassment, but it would also put great distance between him and Grace.

Even now, right under his nose, Grace and Michael's relationship was already stable.

If he really left, the next time they met, they'd probably have children together.

But if he didn't go back, how would he deal with Caroline's continued harassment?

Jonathan was at his wit's end.

Half an hour later, Grace and Michael arrived at the restaurant and ordered their meal.

Grace hummed a little tune, clearly in good spirits.

"When are you planning to go home to file for divorce?" Michael asked.

"No rush," Grace shook her head. "I'm in the right on this matter. Even if it's delayed a bit longer, it's fine."

"I'd like to return home soon, but you know my father's situation. He still hasn't woken up. Even the doctors can't say when he'll regain consciousness, so I don't dare leave yet."

Grace sounded helpless as she spoke.

Though she missed home, she had to admit that the medical facilities abroad were considerably better than back home.

Since her father had been transferred here, his condition had improved significantly compared to when he was home.

"I just hope my father wakes up soon."

Grace sighed softly. "Seeing him like this breaks my heart, but there's nothing I can do."

"However, the doctors did say it won't be much longer before my father really does wake up. I'll wait patiently a bit more, and I'll see results."

"Right now, what worries me most is my research."

Grace placed a hand over her chest. "It's been so long, and there's still no evidence."

"Who knows—one day someone might claim credit for my research. Just thinking about it makes my heart ache."

"Don't worry, there's been some progress on that front," Michael said.

Grace's eyes widened instantly. "Really? Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because I wanted to surprise you."

Michael continued, "Actually, there were only some initial leads. I was afraid of getting your hopes up for nothing, so I kept quiet about it."
