Chapter 72

Chapter 72

Charlotte returned to the Smith Mansion alone.

As soon as she walked in, the table was filled with all kinds of delicious food.

Thomas and Vivian were both waiting by the table. The moment they saw her appear, they all stood up to greet her.

Their every move was oddly obedient, like they were meeting some kind of boss.

"Charlotte, you're here! Come sit down and eat. These are all your favorite dishes."

Charlotte glanced at the table.

None of them were her favorites.

In all her years with the Smith family, Thomas and Vivian had never paid attention to what she liked to eat.

It was always William who took care of her and treated her well.

These two had never cared about anything concerning her.

Now they were putting out all this good food simply because they knew she was the heiress of Bliss Group, and they wanted to butter her up.

Charlotte looked at them with no expression.

"I don't like fish, and I hate lemon juice in my food. Are you sure these are all my favorite dishes?"

Vivian immediately looked embarrassed and quickly explained, "I specifically told the kitchen to make your favorites. Maybe since you haven't been home for a while, they forgot what you like to eat. Don't hold it against them."

"Why haven't I been home? You know the reason, don't you?"

Charlotte sat at the table, looking down at them with a cold, mocking expression.

"You kicked me out at Grandpa's funeral. You already cut ties with me back then. Have you forgotten?"

Thomas looked a bit guilty and sat down with an apologetic smile.

"We were wrong back then. We were too heartbroken over your grandfather's death, and you weren't very close to us at the time. Now we really miss you. Can you forgive us?"

Charlotte felt disgusted listening to this and sneered, "Back then, you looked down on me for being a farm girl and couldn't wait to distance yourselves from me. Now you're saying things like this. Don't you think it's ridiculous?"

"I'll never make up with you again. I'm only here to get Grandpa's belongings. Where are they? Give them to me."

She held out her hand, not wanting to stay a second longer. She just wanted to grab the things and leave.

Thomas and Vivian exchanged glances, realizing this approach wasn't going to win Charlotte over at all.

They immediately changed their attitude and sat down across from Charlotte without any courtesy.

"Let's be honest with you. Before your grandfather died, he wanted to give you his most beloved watch, and we never took it out."

Charlotte felt a pain in her heart.

William had always loved her like his dearest granddaughter. In his will, he left her shares, and before he died, he wanted to leave her his most precious watch.

He didn't even want the watch to be buried with him.

If she didn't find out exactly how William died, she would never let it go.

Charlotte collected her thoughts, raised her head, and her eyes were already filled with killing intent.

"I'll say this one last time. Give me the watch."

Vivian pursed her lips and snorted coldly, "Why should we? Your grandfather did say he wanted to give you the watch before he died, but verbal agreements don't count. We can completely refuse to acknowledge it."

Hearing this, Charlotte's face instantly turned cold. She stood up, grabbed a glass of water from the table, and threw it directly in Vivian's face.

Vivian screamed, covered her face, and stepped back two steps. Her eyes stung painfully from the lemon juice.

Seeing her being bullied, Thomas immediately stepped forward and raised his hand.

"What, are you going to hit me?"

Charlotte didn't even blink, looking at him mockingly.

"Do you dare hit the heiress of Bliss Group? Huh?"

Thomas's expression instantly changed from anger to stiffness. His raised hand couldn't come down no matter what.

Charlotte threatened in a low voice, "Are you going to give it to me or not?"

Vivian was shaking with anger and shouted, "If you want the belongings, give us money and return the Smith Group to us! Otherwise, we'd rather throw the watch away than give it to you!"

She stopped pretending altogether and revealed her true greedy nature.

Charlotte said nothing, just quietly thinking about the watch William often used to wear.

It was a very precious vintage piece.

When she was little, she didn't know how many times she had fallen asleep nestled in William's palm, against that watch.

"Don't blame us for being heartless. William was a Smith family member after all, so his things can only belong to the Smith family. If you want them, exchange them for something valuable."

Vivian smiled triumphantly, not caring about how disheveled she looked after being splashed.

"Besides, Smith Group was originally the Smith family's business. You return the company to us, and we'll give you the watch. We'll be even. You're the heiress of Bliss Group anyway, so there's no need for you to hold onto our company, right?"

The living room was extremely quiet.

Charlotte looked up at them and suddenly smiled.

"So you're definitely going to use Grandpa's belongings to threaten me?"

Her tone was very calm, but without a trace of warmth.

Thomas was startled, then said dismissively, "So what? This is just a fair trade. We're taking back what belonged to us in the first place. What's wrong with that?"

Charlotte nodded thoughtfully, then suddenly smiled carelessly.

"Fine, let's do it that way then."

Thomas and Vivian exchanged glances, both surprised to hear this.

They hadn't expected Charlotte to agree so easily.

Thomas was a bit suspicious, looking her up and down in disbelief.

"Are you sure?"

Charlotte raised an eyebrow. "Of course I'm sure."

She didn't seem to care about the Smith Group at all, only wanting to get the belongings.

After his initial suspicion, Thomas suddenly didn't doubt it much anymore.

He even thought it made sense.

Charlotte had always cared a lot about William, and now she was the heir to such a big company as the Bliss Group, so of course, she wouldn't care too much about the Smith Group.

"Alright, we'll give you your grandfather's belongings in three days."

Thomas didn't hand over the watch right away.

Charlotte didn't mind either.

She leaned back lazily in her chair and stretched.

"Fine, it's settled then. I'll have someone handle the transfer tomorrow."

Thomas frowned and asked tentatively, "So I can sign the company transfer contract with you tomorrow?"

"Of course, but I need to see that watch now. In case you're lying to me and trying to scam me, I can't be stupid enough to hand over the company first and wait to be cheated, right?"

Charlotte looked at them with a half-smile.

Hearing this, Thomas quickly said, "When we sign the contract tomorrow, I'll bring the watch to show you. As long as we finish signing the contract, I can give you the item in advance."

"Good, it's settled then."

Charlotte glanced at the food on the table and stood up.

"I'll call you tomorrow."

She finished speaking and turned to leave.

As soon as the door closed, excited laughter came from inside.

"We can finally get the company back! That stupid girl actually thinks we have her grandfather's belongings. We already sold the watch to an auction house!"

"Yeah, that watch was worth a fortune. She thinks she can get her hands on it? No way!"

"I've already had a fake made. We'll give it to her tomorrow. The appearance is identical anyway, so she won't know it's fake!"
