Chapter 62 THE BATTLEFIELD.

Chapter 62 THE BATTLEFIELD.
SLOANE'S POINT OF VIEW.
My breath hitches in my throat as I watch Lucien and Ace stare each other down. The air suddenly feels still, their aura suffocating me, and I’m sure everyone else in here. My fingers dig into my palm as I bite my lower lip.
All of a sudden, the presence of someone else has me gripping my chest in fright.
“Oh!” I shriek, staring at the horsemen in surprise. Killian and the guys smirk at me, unfazed by my fright. “You scared me.” I hiss, but they all flash me with their signature smirks.
“Sorry, scholarship girl. We rushed down here to watch the show.” Theo says, sitting beside me on the seat Lucien once occupied. The other guys follow suit, taking their seats like the damn chairs were thrones fit for their kingly selves.
“Show? Wait..how are you guys even here so fast?” I asked, it’d barely been five minutes since Lucien and Ace faced off. They had to be witches flying on horses for them to be on the other side of this huge ass school for them to already be here.
“Have you checked your phone, girl? The damn news is everywhere.” Theo chuckles while pulling his phone out. He punches a few numbers in before handing me the phone. “Someone even captioned it.” He pauses, before moving his hands in a dramatic flair kind of way;
“THE BATTLE FOR SLOANE BISHOP.”
The rest of the guys chuckle, but I frown as I stare at the phone. How the hell did they even already have a damn image of them facing off with the dramatic ass caption so fast?
This school’s ability to turn everything into gossip would never cease to amaze me.
“Why are they calling it that, though? This isn’t some battle for me? It’s just Lucien being himself.”
“Oh, sweet innocent Sloanie.” Theo chuckles, and the rest of the guys snicker.
“Can you even see what’s going on?” Killian asks.
“No.” I shake my head with a frown on my face. Was there something I didn’t see?
“Ace definitely has some interest in you. I mean, look at him.” Cassian says, putting down his phone.
“Well, it's nice to see you finally drop the damn phone,” Theo says, fixing him with a glare.
“Oh, sorry. I forgot there is a single, miserable man among us.” He retorts, before turning back to his phone with a small smile on his lips.
He must be talking to the infamous girlfriend I keep hearing about.
“Sloane, listen to me, honey. Ace has an interest in you. It’s stupid because who the hell is insane enough to challenge Lucien? He’s a beast on the damn ice; he’s ruthless, and he never loses. Ever.” He says, turning serious all of a sudden.
Before I could respond, her voice cut in.
“I don’t know. There’s a first time for everything. I wonder….will the great king be dethroned today?” Seraphina says, sitting on the left side of me.
Theo’s eyes darken instantly, and his body suddenly tenses as he stares at her. She barely spares him any mind, though; her dark hair falls in waves all over her back, as she sits straight.
All of a sudden, I’m aware of her flawless skin as opposed to mine, with small freckles on my cheeks. She sits like a queen, while I look like a peasant next to her. Her legs are crossed elegantly, unlike mine.
Clearing my throat, I hiss at her, “No one asked you.”
She turns to me with a smirk, like my voice was all she needed to hear. “Well, seeing as it’s my fiancé on the ice, I should be here to watch, giving him moral support so he can make me proud. Afterall., when we have kids in the future, I would like to tell them about how gallant their father was in school.
Theo’s glare hardens, and his hands clench into fists at the word ‘fiancée’.
On the other hand, my throat bobs from the force of my need to scream at her.
The thought of Lucien having kids with her, hell, him kissing her, felt like someone poured acid down my fucking throat.
I don’t bother with an answer; I simply stare ahead, hoping Lucien floors him.
“Go, Lucien!” I yell, rising to my feet in a cheer.
He turns at the sound of my voice, now dressed in his full sports gear. My skin flushes as blood rushes through my veins at how hot he looks on the ice.
He flashes me a sexy smirk that hits me straight in the heart. And all of a sudden, I can’t stop fucking smiling, because if there’s anything I know about Lucien;
It’s that he doesn’t lose, and he would do anything not break that winning streak.
In no time, the arena is filled with students, each of us watching with anticipation and interest, but I know most of us are confident, because we know who our champion is.
Lucien has led the team to a national fucking level in the past year that he’s been captain, and because of him, they will be playing internationally in a few months.
Their eyes lock, with each of their sticks on the ball.
The sound of the coach blowing the whistle fills the silent arena, and with that, the game is on. Everyone erupts in cheers for Lucien as we watch them play.
Lucien is ruthless, as he takes the ball with skilled precision. He moves through the ice as if he belongs on it, with the ball in his grasp. Ace is right behind him, moving with such quickness that it has me leaning forward in my seat, my blood pumping with tension.
Before Ace could snatch the ball, Lucien scored a goal.
“Yes!” Everyone screams in victory as Lucien scores. But there’s barely any time to recover, because Ace scores a goal not long after. He surprises me, though.
I didn’t expect him to be this good, or this quick, because he glides on the ice like a fucking dancer, each move graceful as he holds the puck. My breath hitches as he nears the goal post, but just a few seconds in, before he could score, Lucien tackles him from behind, stealing the ball from him.
And in the twinkle of an eye,  he scores.
