Chapter 225 A DYING MINUTE

Chapter 225 A DYING MINUTE
KAI'S POINT OF VIEW
A few minutes later, she returns with a bright, hopeful smile. “He’s on his way with some help. Everything will be okay.”
“Let’s get her to the hospital.” I took a step, holding the still unconscious Aurora in my arms, but before I could move, two things happened. A nurse stepped forward, his voice shaky and timid.
“Y-you cannot leave...”
“And who the hell is going to stop us?” Everleigh speaks before I could, probably because I was just about to tear through the bastard.
“There was the sound of a gunshot, ma’am. Someone is clearly dead in there, and another person walks out, apparently fine, with another unconscious person in his arms. That can only mean one thing: he shot and killed the other person. The police are on their way….we will have to start an investigation so the murderer gets his punishment.”
The second thing that happened was Everleigh screeched, her eyes wide with fear and panic. “Kai! Look at her arm.” I looked down immediately, my heart stopping at the sight. Black vine-looking things travelled up both Aurora’s arms, snaking their way up till they stopped at her shoulders.
“Marloise poisoned her blood! Shit!” !” I didn’t think anymore. I rushed forward, clutching her even tighter. However, the stupid nurse stepped in front of us, his arms spread wide as if to form a wall.
“Get the hell out of our way!” I roared, the sound from my lips coming out like a growl. The fool gulped, but still dared to say.
“No, sir….we must follow due process.” I wanted to punch him, but then, I remembered a detail about my mother. Turning towards the door, time felt slower, my mind working a mile a minute; the memory of the vines around Aurora’s arms burned a hole through my mind.
“Kai? We need to get her to a hospital.” I heard Everleigh’s slow voice in the background, but I didn’t focus on it. I rushed back into that room, barely glancing at my mom’s now greying corpse; the hole in her head from the gunshot was still oozing blood.
“Kai, what on earth are you doing?” Everleigh asked from behind me as she watched me set Aurora back on the bench. I poured the tools inside my mother’s box onto the table, my hands searching for the one thing Marloise would never work without.
“I’m looking for a cure,” I whispered, throwing the useless things to the floor.
“Cure? I don’t understand. We should be getting her to a hospital!” I felt her try to pull me away. Pushing her off as gently as possible, I focused on my search.
“You don’t know Marloise as much as I do, Everleigh. I lived with the monster for months, a nd one thing I know about her is that as much as she makes her poison herself, she never fails to make the antidotes. Nor does she fail to take them along with her always. My mother has an antidote here for the sedative she gave to Aurora….I just need to look for it.
I recognize the vines around her arms, and I know the antidote for it.” I rushed through the words, my heart pounding with each one. I knew we didn’t have much time left. Once the vines get to her heart or chest area, she would die, and my mother would win.
“Bingo!” I hissed in triumph, my hands grabbing the small vial to the farthest left of me. Without a second thought, I turned around, ran to a still unconscious Aurora, and jammed the thing into her chest. The second I did, she jerked up with a loud gasp, her eyes snapping open to the land of the living.
