Chapter 180 OUR GREAT LOVE
OUR GREAT LOVE.
AURORA’S POINT OF VIEW.
Catherine.’ That name Morgan yelled was wrong…I could feel it deep in my bones, but I did not know what to do. Do I utter any random name just like her as well, hoping I would be right, and not screw all this before we even started?
Silas did not look away from me even once. I felt the sharks closing in. Denise smiled for the first time tonight, her eyes leaming with delight as she watched me. I would be caught today…..Everything I hoped for, all my plots for revenge, would never see the light of day. I would not help mum.
I wanted to cry. I wanted to turn to Kai to tell him to say something.
Was this a way to punish me? Did Kai and Morgan plan this to hurt me in front of Dad and his wife?
It felt like forever, my skin clammy and damp as I broke into yet another sweat. The air conditioning was on full blast, but I felt as though I was in a freaking sauna.
“See… she does not know it!” Morgan has a smug smile. “I was clearly right. It shows I am right on for Kai.” She said, leaning closer to the old man whos till did not even glance at her.
“Mr Mercer.” Denise started, smiling also at Silas, even though the man would not see it….he still kept those hawk eyes on me. “My daughter has proven to you that she is the right one…this girl.” Denise glared at me. “Is nothing but a fraud; a charlatan who dares to try fool you and your precious, innocent son into being hers. A thief is trying to steal your money and wealth for her pathetic mother.
See, it is what they do. Her mother and her…they’re the same, and I can only hope you never are confronted with the likes of them. Am I right, honey?” she turned to father, and I looked at him again tonight.
Every time I glance, I am hit with the truth over and over again; my father was dead and gone….thus man…this shell was nothing like the man I grew up admiring. He gulped, staring between his wife, Morgan, and me, clearly caught between us.
“Um…I…” he stuttered, his face pale all of a sudden. It filled me with hope… maybe dad would finally take my side. “You’re right, Denise.” Disappointment….he shattered me again. “She….Aurora has always taken after her mother.” He turned to me. “I should not expect any less from a girl like her….the seed of my ex-wife will always be corrupt.”
I moved to yell at him, but just then, I felt it. A strong, warm hand held onto mine, placing our joined hands on the table so everyone could see us. Once Kai did, his father's eyes slid to it, and then to him. A glint in those eyes that only seemed to get darker every time.
All heads turned to him as well, clearly anticipating what he would do.
